'Dark Cargo': Lodge Kerrigan To Direct, Nick Santora Set As Showrunner Of YouTube's Pilot From eOne & Ben Stiller
via Deadline

The Girlfriend Experience co-creator/director Lodge Kerrigan is set to direct and Scorpion creator/executive producer Nick Santora is attached as showrunner of YouTube Premium's drama pilot Dark Cargo, from Entertainment One and Canada's Counterfeit Pictures and SEVEN24 Films.

The project, written by Adam and Max Reid, is executive produced by Ben Stiller and Nicky Weinstock via their Red Hour Productions banner. eOne serves as the studio. Production is set to start in Alberta at the end of March.

Dark Cargo is described as a high-octane, cliffhanger-driven, neo-noir thriller set in the big rig cab of Joe Dobbs as he traverses the darkest nights of his life. What begins as a random encounter with a disturbed stranger turns into a race against time, the police, and even more malevolent forces. All the while, Joe just wants to get back to his family.

Kerrigan is co-creator, executive producer and director of The Girlfriend Experience on Starz. His previous directing credits include The Killing, The Red Road, The Americans, Bates Motel, Longmire and Homeland. On the feature side, he wrote and directed the 2010 Rebecca H. (Return to the Dogs), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Santora created, exec produced and ran drama series Scorpion, which aired for four seasons on CBS. He also co-created and exec produced Breakout Kings, which aired for two seasons on A&,E and co-executive produced Fox's Prison Break.

Kerrigan and Santora are repped by WME.

Series 'Step Up: High Water' & 'Wayne', Pilot 'Dark Cargo' Seek New Homes As YouTube Steps Up Scripted Pullback
via Deadline

YouTube's scale-back on original scripted programming continues. I have learned that the online video platform is not proceeding with new seasons of its drama series Step Up: High Water and comedy Wayne, and is not going forward with drama pilot Dark Cargo and comedy pilot It's a Man's World

[...]

I hear three of the four YouTube Premium projects that will not continue on the platform — Step Up: High Water from Lionsgate TV, Wayne from Endeavor Content, and Dark Cargo from Entertainment One — are actively looking for new homes.

[...]

Meanwhile, I hear eOne is currently holding screenings of the Dark Cargo pilot for potential buyers. The big-scope, bid-budget pilot stars Chris Messina and RJ Cyler. There had been significant interest in the project when it was first shopped by eOne, with YouTube landing the a high-octane, cliffhanger-driven neo-noir thriller in a competitive situation.

A 4K restoration of Keane (2004) is forthcoming from Grasshopper Films. Playing at Lincoln Center beginning August 19th.

A disheveled man desperately searches New York City for his young daughter.

Quote"William Keane (Damian Lewis) is barely able to cope. It has been six months since his six-year-old daughter was abducted from New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal while traveling with him. Repeatedly drawn to the site of the abduction, Keane wanders the bus station, compulsively replaying the events of that fateful day, as if hoping to change the outcome. One day he meets a financially strapped woman, Lynn Bedik (Amy Ryan), and her seven-year-old daughter, Kira (Abigail Breslin), at a transient hotel. Keane becomes increasingly attached to Kira and, in a harrowing climax, uses her in an attempt to fill the void left by his daughter's disappearance."

When the film was first released, Kerrigan famously explained that the idea for "Keane" came from his own fears about his daughter being kidnapped.

"I realized, how in just four minutes — four minutes! — your child could be abducted," he said. "Your life could be changed forever and there would be no way to recover from it. I knew that kind of visceral feeling would be a good starting point."

^ coming to blu-ray April 4, 2023 from Grasshopper Film

Keane takes its name from its central character, a middle-aged man who wanders Port Authority with a seemingly tenuous grasp of his sanity, muttering to himself and causing altercations with passers-by. He claims to have lost his daughter at a bus station, and consistently pleads for assistance from indifferent authority figures. When he's not roaming the streets, he uses his meager savings to rent out a room nightly in a cheap hotel; there, he meets Lynn, a single mother with a daughter, Kyra, almost the same age as Keane's missing child. As he grows closer to Lynn and Kyra, he starts to see the young girl as instrumental in deciphering his own loss.
