what are some comedies that many film "buffs" would stick their nose up at that are your favorites? ones that i enjoy very much:
wayne's world - tops the list, i've seen it more than 20 times
sorority boys - really funny, a shame nobody's ever seen it
billy madison - my favorite of the sandler oeuvre (like, his stupid comedies for all you PTA fanboys screaming blasphemy)
saving silverman - or anything with jack black for that matter
freddy got fingered - sheer brilliance
orgazmo - oh man, this movie is just plain funny
i can't think of others now, but i'll get back to you on that, i'm sure.
Well, I hate Mike Myers, but Waynes World is pretty good.
NO
Stairway to Heaven
how about Road Trip. I think it was the funniest of the teen/college/whatever/comedy movie explosion
Half Baked
Wayne's World I and II
I'm not sure if these are really looked down upon, but:
Nat. Lamp. Loaded Weapon I
Hot Shots and Hot Shots Part Deux
Naked Gun
aw
Orgazmo is pretty damn funny! Anything from Troma has a special place in my heart. But my favorite comedy of all time is Trading Places. That movie rocked!
Nick
BASEketball
Zoolander
Billy Madison
anything with Spade (except Joe Dirt) or Farley
Made
Kingpin
Major League
Slap Shot
EDIT: yeah, Shaftr reminded me about Road Trip
bill and teds bogus journey
PCU
the ladies man
orange county
waynes world 1 & 2
naked gun
hot shots
airplane
dumb and dumber
kingpin
theres something about mary
wet hot american summer
zoolander
i'm not sure if any of those are revelations, but thats mostly from my movie racks.
All of the Naked Gun movies
Both Hot Shots movies
There's Something About Mary
Old School
Dumb and Dumber
Mafia!
Scary Movie
Not Another Teen Movie
not yet mentioned but a personal fave:
deuce bigalow: male gigolo... the bigfoot, the cop's dick, the black pimp, 's all good.
Dumb and Dumber
Road Trip
Meet the Parents
Mallrats
Happy Gilmore
Something About Mary
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
3 Ninjas and 3 Ninjas Kick Back- I loved these movies as a kid. They're still entertaining in a goofy sort of way.
Airplane is a classic.
And of course the Naked Gun & Hot Shots movies.
Yeah... Nothing beats Airplane... all stupid movies following were trying to be as good, but most failed, including the sequel.
Top Secret was pretty good, same with Hot Shots (mostly Part Deux) and the first 2 Naked Guns.
Also Mel Brook's earlier shit... Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frank...

I didn't know that was exactly looked down upon, but I guess that's because hardly anybody has seen it. Man it's great. If you like WHAS and The State then check out www.stellacomedy.com
Even funnier is Roger Ebert's review of Wet Hot American Summer (http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/ebert_reviews/2001/08/083104.html).
Stupid fun comedies are great. I like Dumb and Dumber (but who doesn't?), Office Space, Ace Ventura 1 & 2, Naked Gun series, and Hot Shots, to name a few.

Yeah, you're right. Funny isn't the right word. It does drag on a little longer than it should.

I didn't name Office Space because I thought it was assumed that all of us cinephiles / movie snobs loved it...
you can add National Lampoons Christmas and Vegas Vacations to my list as well...
Gone Fish'n....
Very stiupid & very funny..
True point. Office Space is the comedy that treads the fine line between stuff like Dumb and Dumber, and stuff like The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and Punch-Drunk Love, and About Schmidt.
I don't love Office Space. It's just "okay" to me...I think people are really eager to call it "great"

Just read it. That came off as a poor attempt at being funny/clever by an intelligent man. I'm actually suprised he spent that long on it. Sad, really...
aw
This is a STUPID comedy thread. The Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker films do not belong in this thread, since, IMO, they are very intelligent films.
Captain Ron is another childhood favorite of mine.
One that's never mentioned is Kung Pow. This thing has been on cable hundreds of times lately, and every time I pass it, I'm drawn in.
I think this is the funniest movie I've seen in a long, long time.
It sucks, but that's the beauty of it. It's supposed to.
WWWWEEEEEEEOOOOOOOWWWWWEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
that gene wilder movie with richard pryor, i think its called "see no evil, hear no evil"
"Half Baked". It was dumb, but during my stoner days I couldn't get enough of this flick.
Sir Smokes Allot: BITCH! You know what I want. I wanna TALK TO SAMSON! Fly me to the moon like that bitch Allan Grhamson(?). Cause it's hard being black and gifted. SO I call Samson to get LIFTED.
Also, every Cheech & Chong movie. And "The Big LEbowski", which is a fucking masterpiece. And if you decide to contest my picks, well, that's just like, your opinion man.

That review is proof that Ebert HAS LOST HIS FUCKING MIND.
Yeah, Ebert is pretty useless in my opinion.
I'm more of a Roeper guy.
oh come on, he's just toying around. How bored would YOU get writings all of those reviews
That review is a little embarassing. But he's just having fun... a little selfish...
i love ebert, despite things like that.....didga ever read his review of halloween H2O? not that the movie deserved a hell of a lot, but i thought it was a tad unfair
Best stupid fun comedy: Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. Okay, maybe it's not THAT stupid, but it's sure as hell funny.
Quote from: XixaxI'm more of a Roeper guy.
Finally, someone who prefers Roeper. I'm surprised by how many people hate him and actually personally attack him... His taste in movies is better than Ebert's IMO. Especially when it comes to stupid fun comedies- He gave Old School thumbs up while Ebert gave it a big thumbs down.
I saw the stupedest, and most lame, comedy easterday it was called 'Bring It On'. This is a warning: Stay away from this movie!

no.
Roeper's taste, like his personality, is something I've found to be rather immature. Not to mention, he's rather loud-mouthed. I like Ebert's more subdued, mature tone. Ebert has honed his taste over years, and I've found it to be one of the most consistent and reasonable things around. There are very few movies I disagree with him about, and, as has been said before, even when I do disagree, he always explains where he's coming from quite well. The WHAS review shouldn't be held against him. He was in a bad movie, sick of it, and simply conjured up a send-up to that old familiar camp song. Like I said, it was quite creative even if it dragged on a bit.
Well let's not get into a huge debate about Ebert and Roeper, unless anyone wants to make a thread about it (which I'd be more than glad to post arguments in  ).

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo Picked up by Sony
Source: Variety
Sony Pictures has teamed up with Adam Sandler's Happy Madison for Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. Rob Schneider is back in the title role he originated in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, and Eddie Griffin is expected to reprise his role as Deuce's man-pimp.
In the sequel, Deuce gets invited by his pimp to vacation in Amsterdam, only to discover that he's being pressed back into the flesh biz. Variety says the script has been a popular industry read, introducing a fresh batch of misfit female clients.
T.J. Schneider wrote the script with David Garrett, Jason Ward and Josh Lieb. Production begins later this year.

Why don't they make a sequel to The Animal instead? That Colleen Haskell showed a lot of promise. Seriously.
All I know is that they HAVE to bring back Amy Poehler for this.
One of my favorite movies and I can't quite tell why:
Too many good ones to name.
1. Hot Shots Part Deux. Because the first one wasn't as good to me, and that's rare, in the way of sequels.
President Thomas 'Tug' Benson: We'll do this the old navy way. First one to die... loses!
2. Freddy Got Fingered. And I hate Tom Green! Hate him! But that resturant scene is classic.
3. Half Bake.
There are other movies that I don't consider silly-stupid like "The Jerk" and "South Park: The Movie", more like classic. 8)
ernest scared stupid
"what am I gonna do with a wooden dog? sure he can swim better, but what am i gonna call him - splinter?"
hehehe
Yesterday I received Freddy Got Fingered as a gift. Very funny if you like stupid random shit, which I do sometimes. The film doesn't even pretend to have a plot. It is one non-sequitur after another and I thought it was a riot.
I've never seen Major League. I have to see Major League. This looks incredible
You really should see Major League. It's almost too legitimately good to belong in this thread.
Oh, yeah. I've seen that about half a dozen times. The last time was probably fifteen years ago, but I remember it had some good moments.

Finally watched it - you're dead right. Forget
Apocalypse Now, forget
Citizen Kane, forget
Eyes Wide Shut or
2001 -- it's all about
Major League. I have seen the second coming of christ and I-am-here-to-tell-you it stars Charlie Sheen and was directed by David S. Ward. This is not a joke.
Maybe more fitting for this thread, less suitable for the AFI Top 100, is Dirty Work (1998). I haven't seen it forever but the trailer cracks me up. Someone confirm.
Confirmed. So rewatchable, too many memorable lines to count. Personal fave: "Note to self: I don't want to 'live'"
fun, and yes, very stupid. Includes Chris Farley's last performance, BY THE WAY. "TIME TO PAY THE FIDDLER, WWHHOOOOORRRREEE!!!!" Ahhhhhh, good stuff
I skimmed the thread... do my eyes deceive me or has no one mentioned super troopers yet? that's an egregious oversight. I'm also a beerfest apologist.
few movies have made me go into conniptions than the jackass movies. jackass 3d is the best use of 3d I've seen to date.
Super Troopers is fucking hilarious. One of my favourites.
