I saw this, it's really good. But also the kind of movie that I'm not sure I could/would watch again. For the first hour or so I was thinking, okay this is one of those foreign Haneke-esque films that's full of dread and creepiness but not really a horror film. Then Shit. Gets. Real. I saw an afternoon screening in Brooklyn last weekend and there were 4 walkouts during the last 15 minutes.
LIGHT BUT NOT REALLY SPOILERS
It wasn't that the violence was that extreme, but it's of the toenail pulling variety that is so cringeworthy and it's also because the first hour is so lacking in it, I think people just weren't prepared for it to take a left turn into being that kind of movie. Like Audition it's more disturbing because you spend so long being lulled into thinking it won't go there, and then it does.

very specific spoilers
i knew nothing about this movie going in, and the second i saw the twins i knew one of them was dead. they made it incredibly obvious. including not giving the second child a name until the last third of the film and making the mom reject the presence of the child visibly like a million times.
this was very distracting and obnoxious because the other parts of the film are amazing.
modage is spot on with the gore bc it is so sporadic subtle and new that its mind boggling.
i dont agree entirely with the allegiance thing bc the kids were ominous from the beginning
but i definitely feel what you mean

I didn't love the movie.
I was fine with the clearly predictable plot point hidden on these other posts until I realized that the movie was not fine with me predicting it.
SPOILERS I GUESS
I liked the tone of the movie during the first half and the twist to making the kids evil was fun enough, but once that happened, it devolved into torture porn with a finale that is so proud of exclaiming the "twist" we saw coming for a while. I think it started promising, but didn't really know what it had going for it because it was all squandered in the end.
This is screening in my town next week, looking forward to seeing it.
