ok i've done a painting, but which background would go better, a plain white or a plain dark blue?

need your opinion!
black would be cool
plain white looks fine to me.
I met a guy one time who claims he met Elvis (after his death). He was sitting in a mall and a guy walked up in an Elvis costume and accent. The guy kinda looked away from him for a while and then turned and asked, "Do I know you?". The Elvis guy said, "Maybe so... "Finally the Elvis guy got up and walked off. This guy followed him and saw him get on a bus. While the bus was pulling out, the Elvis guy gave him a wink.
I still don't believe that story...
yeah, great but what does that have to do with the price of fish?

Yeah, surely Elvis is still alives but hides in malls wearing his costumes.
i dunno about a background, but u should definitely call it "Elvis' Right Eye is Trying To Escape"
those are like, uma thurman eyes.
fixed the right eye ever so slightly, its still about 95% done so there's some tweaking.

I like dark blue, but I agree that black could be even better.
But... how did you make it blue? Have you painted that yet, or is it photoshopped?
i photoshoped the blu background.....tried the black and it just didn't look that great
Put me down for blue. I think it looks good as a near monochromatic.
its a little experiment i done to see if i can sell it on ebay
Some Elvis nut would love it. Rather than ebaying your shit (got drunk last night, lack of vocabulary today), you should comission out your pieces. I used to work in an art gallery and you wouldn't believe what people will pay (or do) for original work.
Cheers, Nice picture, Go blue.
Quote from: ThrindleSome Elvis nut would love it.
Or NOT love it.. since, I think the right eye is going on tour and forgetting to take Elvis with him.
cheers Thrindle, im not sure how to go about comissioning etc but plan to do a few more...maybe movie related ones.
And as for the eye has almost been fixed, just need to extend the brow to the left
(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv94%2Ftyler1983%2FFriends%2520and%2520Me%2Felvis-eyes.jpg&hash=ab61c427a211c42ba2c35b86b744db29137ded92)
and if there's something wrong i'll just label it abstract lol
I think the problem is that the brow is too extended. His head is turned to his right, so the brow should be smaller on that side. The eye could be closer to his nose and 2/3 the size, but then you'd have to shrink the right half of his head. That would also make him look ten times less mischevious, which would work unless you want that look.
Cover up his right eye, and it's really a naturalistic painting.
its a comination of brow and shadow that makes it dark..here's the pic i worked from;

Not to rain on anyone's parade...but there is the copyright issue.
Elvis Presley Enterprieses has a very firm hold on E's image (not to mention to artist of the original composition) and they prosecute quite liberally. That's why velvet Elvis, at least new ones, have all but disappeared. Andy Warhol had terrible copyright issues with his similar paintings.
But congrats on the work...it's quite nice. BTW, the problem is with the left eye...not the right. Look closely, b/c he's snarling, the left eye is partially closed like he's in the process of winking. The bottom eye lid should be higher in the middle not lower. The cheek is pushing up into the eye.
I'll take my chances with the image and there is no 'artist of the original composition' as i worked it myself from numerous photographs that i photoshopped.
As for the eye, its not a major problem i'll alter it better...should be up on ebay tomorrow.
It looks like Sloth from the goonies, mixed with that picture goddamn im the man posted of himself.
Well, it looks like this guy is stealing your idea.

im sure there's tons of similar paintings in that style
same style and color scheme...exactly.
except mine looks like elvis

Wait... what?!
It's not a real Elvis painting unless it's on velvet.
***I can't stop laughing out loud at this thread.

It's deeper than I thought it would be. The dark blue really gives it a sense of doom.

yes, it really accentuates the loneliness and abandonment experienced by the right eye.

.i think it looks good but....his eyes are too big....sort of like that wierd looking gymnastics girl from the USA olympic team [cow eyes].....
i think you might have been thinking of bruce lee when you did those eyes......but still you get two of these...... :yabbse-thumbup: :yabbse-thumbup:
those eyes are made to look big as their in shadow with the socket and the brow
i came in here to make a shot for shot comparison of Bruce Lee's infamous Elvis painting to Tom Brady's disastrous courtroom sketch, only to find that Elvis is GONE. my heart is broken.
lest we forget...
