Post by: Alethia on June 05, 2004, 12:03:13 AM
wasn't sure whether or not this should be its own topic, but i ultimately chose to make it so.  empire has its review for the complete film we will eventually see of kill bill.  they note differences (one of which is a tad puzzling, but oh well) and give the final verdict on whether or not this is the best version of the film.

i'll be excited when the dvd set comes out, six years from now. Tarantino has cashed in his excitement ticket with me by already forcing me to get excited at two seperate movies. I'm 'excited' out. right now, i don't give a damm. he talks too damm much for me to get excited whenever he opens his mouth.

Me too. I was opposed to the splicing from the begining. While a very wise monatary move, it kinda screws up the movie. I really wanna see it as one film. Fuck the cigarette break too.

Has anyone asked why Sophie wasn't with the other Viper Squaddies in Vol 2 yet? Why did The Bride have flashbacks about Sophie w/ her cellphone in the church then?

Quote from: forayHas anyone asked why Sophie wasn't with the other Viper Squaddies in Vol 2 yet?

It could be assumed Sophie was still in the hospital and not important to the rest of the story since she told all to Bill at the end of Vol. 1.

Quote from: forayWhy did The Bride have flashbacks about Sophie w/ her cellphone in the church then?

When The Bride is in the bathroom stall in the House Of Blue Leaves, she hears Sophie's phone ring, and because of the flashback to the church we/she know Sophie was on the phone, thus present, during the killings; this is why the "Ironside" theme plays when The Bride opens the toilet door.

i think he meant: why didn't we see sophie walk with the rest of the vipers into the church seconds before the wedding chapel massacre?

thus, producing the question: if she didn't walk in with them, why was she there in the flashback?

to which i answer: maybe she had to pee quickly and came in while they were ruffin her up

Sophie was not a member of the VIPERS; although a protege of Bill, she's O-Ren's lawyer. Thus, no code name; thus, not a killer; thus, not on The Bride's list. She was there for the aftermath.

Tarantino Eyes Full-Length Kill Bill Release
Source: USA Today Tuesday, August 31, 2004

USA Today talked to Quentin Tarantino about the success of Hero in theaters. The film was billed as "presented by Quentin Tarantino" and took the top spot with an impressive $18 million this weekend.

Tarantino also talked about the strong sales of Kill Bill Vol. 2 on DVD, which was released on August 10th and has remained at the top since while reinvigorating sales of Kill Bill Vol. 1.

The sales bode well for Tarantino's dream to bring a full-length Kill Bill to theaters. A film that combines the separate movies could happen as soon as early next year.

"It's not just like slapping the two together," he says. "There are slight changes, and it has an intermission, like a '60s movie."

Tarantino adds that a subsequent ultimate Kill Bill DVD would have a new collection of extras. "It won't make these two (current DVDs) obsolete. We have put everything we could on volumes 1 and 2, but I have all this cool stuff we have from over the course of a year and a half making (the films)."

YOU ARE A FUCKING LIAR>  "EVERYTHING YOU COULD" was a fucking deleted scene a 'music video' and 2 10 minute making-ofs?  uhhh, WHATEVER.

Kill Bill Director's Cut in August 05?
Source: IGN.DVD

A website dedicated to action figures may have given away the release date of one of the biggest titles of 2005. Figures.com was talking about the release of a new batch of Kill Bill action figures, and said this:

"As previously reported, NECA's Kill Bill action figure series will continue in 2005. Series 2 is slated to hit store shelves in conjunction with the August 5th release of the Director's Cut of the two films; Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2. The line-up will consist of The Bride II, Pai Mai, Elle Driver and fan-favorite Bill."

Can somebody please tell me the title of the Morricone song in Kill Bill Volume 2.  I checked the credits and everything.

It's the part where Uma Thurman is walking towards the camera on her way to Budd's trailer, looking bloodied and bashed after getting out of the grave.  It comes straight after Elle Driver is driving to Budd's.  She gets out of her car and then walks up to Budd with the suitcase full of money.  Then cut to:  a Lawrence of Arabia-like homage complete with squak from a bird and a great looking heat wave.

Tarantino brings Kill Bills together
Source: iol.ie

Movie-maker Quentin Tarantino is planning to re-release his Kill Bill movie saga as one complete film with an intermission.

The cult director plans to start work on merging Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 once the holiday season is over and hopes to release it in selected cinemas late next year [2006].

He says: "I want to cut the whole movie together like one big epic with an intermission in the middle like a 60s film. It'll be coming out in theatres.

"I've been holding off because I've been working on it for so long that I just wanted a year off from Kill Bill and then I'll do the big supplementary DVD package."

Well, Miramax said in the beginning that there would be the bare-bones editions of each film, then special editions of each film, and THEN the super duper deluxe edition with The Whole Bloody Affair.  Lots of dipping.  I haven't bought any Kill Bill DVD's yet and it looks like a looong time before I do.

Sources for thedigitalbits are telling us that the reason for the delay of Quentin Tarantino's long-awaited Kill Bill: Special Edition DVDs, is that the release rights to the Kill Bill films have left Miramax with the departure of the Brothers Weinstein. That would mean that any DVD release is going to be handled directly by The Weinstein Company, through their new DVD distribution partner, Genius Products (Derailed will be the first Weinstein film to be released by Genius on disc, on 3/21).

Whole Bloody Affair is finally due for release later this year. Quite soon, in fact: September 18th. It's going direct to DVD as a 4-disc set. The film will be split across two discs which, to some at least, will strongly dilute the promised 'single film' nature of the enterprise (there are already arguments that this effectively renders it two films, that the changing of the discs is going to cause a break in the flow, no matter that the cut is designed to work best for a single sitting). The other 2-discs are to be stuffed to the gills with behind the scenes materials, of course, but we can apparently also expect material on the film's many predecessors, including a selection of trailers for half-forgotten 'classics'.

Interestingly, September 18th seems to be the release date for Death Proof on DVD also. There's to be two discs - the original double feature edit on one, the extended cut on the other (though, apparently, not exactly the same as the Cannes version). That these two dates are the same either means a big Tarantino push is coming from the Weinsteins or, simply, somebody got confused somewhere along the line and some of this just isn't true. The rumour has come at me from more than one direction, however... so we'll see...

I dunno 'bout that. It depends on how quick you can switch discs. QT had planned an intermission anyway:

Hope we can believe in - Tarantino talks Kill Bill redux
Source: The QT Archives

Not all hope is lost my friends. After Quentin Tarantino revealed his top 20 favorites both in the Spaghetti Western and in the grindhouse genre ("That grindhouse list made me start coming up with mine! But it's a good list...there's a lot of films that ... are on here."  he said), I started asking some long nagging questions. I felt as the ambassador of the fan community, I should ask what is going on with that long-overdue "integral" edition of Kill Bill, be it theatrically or on DVD. Let me take that back, actually I asked where that Kill Bill script on paperback was and Quentin assured me that it will come out in a longer version, he's just been putting the whole movie aside for a while. As you might know, the integral version of Kill Bill that was shown once in Cannes, is no longer what you'll eventually see, at least not completely.

"We've actually added some things to it. We did a whole little chapter that I wrote and designed for the animated sequence, that we never did, because we figured, back when it was gonna be one big movie, it was going to be too long, so we didn't do it. So when we were talking about re-releasing it, they asked is there anything you can put in, and I said no I put everything in there, but... there's one sequence that we wouldn't even have to shoot! So we got together with Production IG and did it, and it's really cool. So it's this little seven minute sequence, it's really cool, it's in the O-Ren chapter." - Quentin Tarantino

The version in Cannes was the way it will be, recut to be one movie, with an intermission, as supposed to two seperate ones with the cliffhanger and the tags. "It's more like a big 60s movie with the intermission. Oh, you'll just have to see it!" he laughs. Of course DVD release plans and all that stuff on the business end is potentially outside the influence of a director, but knowing that it's on the way is definitely better than speculating. The Quentin Tarantino Archives will keep you posted on the development. We've seen conceptual artwork of the DVD case a year ago at the ComiCon, we know what Quentin has to say about it, so with some more patience we'll have this WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR in our hands at some point. Stay tuned for more.

Good lord, does anyone even care about this anymore?  I was interested in seeing the Whole Bloody Affair, like, 5 years ago, but have moved on.  I've actually become pretty disenchanted with Tarantino and hope that his movie-universe-within-the-movie-universe (i.e. the movies the characters in his movies would go see) era is over for Tarantino as I find Kill Bill and Death Proof to be damn near unwatchable compared to his early work.  I'm hoping Inglorious Basterds brings us something interesting and new rather than yet another homage to some old forsaken "trash movie style".

What Tarantino will add to a Kill Bill Blu-ray release
Source: SciFi Wire

Given the time and thought Quentin Tarantino devotes to developing each of his films, it's surprising how much their subsequent DVD releases seem like an afterthought. But the writer-director says that he plans to revisit—and expand—several long-gestating releases once he's finished with the promotion of his latest movie, Inglourious Basterds.

"When I'm through with this, I can actually finish the final Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair," Tarantino told reporters Sunday in a group interview in Beverly Hills, Calif.

"I need to do one thing with it, though," Tarantino said. "I'm not going to monkey around with the movie itself, but we've actually done a whole new section for the anime as the last thing [we added]. I actually wrote a much longer script for the anime section during O-Ren's revenge chapter. Remember the guy with the long hair that kills her father? It's like, what happened to that dude? Well, I wrote it and it was the biggest, most elaborate thing I wrote—her taking him down."

Tarantino said this material wasn't a separate story, but something always intended for the film—until other narratives took over, anyway. "This was when I thought Kill Bill was going to be one movie," he revealed. "So already I thought a 20-minute anime scene may be not the wisest move. So we didn't have them do it, so they were relieved they didn't have to do it because it was so big. [But] I actually showed it to Harvey Weinstein; I had the whole script written out shot for shot what it would be, so [I said], 'Harvey, this literally would make it complete. This is everything I came up with and wrote when I wrote it.' So Production IG just did it, and I just need to work with them a little bit and go over it with them—and I'll do that once this is officially behind me."

As for that long-awaited theatrical cut of Grindhouse? Tarantino admitted he's been delinquent getting that put together on DVD and Blu-ray, but said he was happy to see there was so much demand around the world for it, even without a proper home-video release.

"We've just been lazy getting around to Grindhouse, the full edition," Tarantino said. "One of the things that has been cool about that, though, is that the Grindhouse cut has actually been playing all over the world. It's becoming this thing that theaters or revival houses would have midnight shows, like in Australia or Ireland or Scotland."

"They don't want Death Proof, [and] they don't want Planet Terror," he said. "They want Grindhouse. It's one of those things that, like, in two months it's showing again [wherever] their local midnight Friday-Saturday screening is."

Quentin Tarantino did not direct his two-part revenge thriller "Kill Bill" as well as he would have liked. And according to a statement made during a "Directors on Directing" panel held in Santa Barbara yesterday, it wasn't until the Oscar-nominated filmmaker saw "Avatar" that he realized, or at least recalled, what was missing.

No, he doesn't wish he'd included giant blue-skinned CG characters or done the movie with a lot of blue-screen work. Nor would he have made "Kill Bill" in 3-D. Rather, after watching fellow Oscar-nominee James Cameron's sci-fi blockbuster, Tarantino was reminded of his intended goal.

"One of the things I was thinking when I was watching 'Avatar,' he said, "was when I did 'Kill Bill' I had these grandiose visions in my head of the experience of watching the movie. And I actually wanted it to be more like a ride."

Tarantino was responding to a question regarding whether or not "Avatar" is a game changer for his own career, basically asking if the "Inglourious Basterds" director would ever shoot in 3-D. At first, he laughed the query away, acknowledging that "House of Wax" (the 1953 version) director Andre de Toth had already gone there.

More seriously, he went on to clarify that he had not wanted "Kill Bill" to be the kind of movie you watch at a multiplex and then go home and have pie and forget about it. Unfortunately, he admitted, he doesn't think he achieved his vision of having the film(s) immerse the audience into this world in that way.

"I think the closest may be the House of Blue Leaves sequence," he said. "Or maybe the coffin sequence."

Despite his confession of slight disappointment, however, Tarantino explained that he does think "Kill Bill" is "good" and possibly the work he's most proud of. It just wasn't the complete, "most" vision that he had in his head for the story.

"That's the ride I was trying to do," he said of "Avatar."

Quentin Tarantino Would Do 'Kill Bill, Vol 1' In 3-D If He Could Do It All Over Again
Source: MTV

At Sunday's 82nd Annual Academy Awards show, one thing on a lot of people's minds was 3-D. The David v. Goliath showdown in the Best Picture category -- Kathryn Bigelow's tense, Iraq War-set soldiers story up against James Cameron's 'game-changing' 3-D sci-fi blockbuster "Avatar" -- was in many ways a contest of new technology versus tried-and-true methods of filmmaking. "Locker" emerged victorious, but 3-D is nonetheless on the rise, with multiple studios prepping or converting their upcoming features into 2-D/3-D releases.

MTV's Josh Horowitz was on the red carpet before that race was decided, and he put the question to "Inglourious Basterds" filmmaker Quentin Tarantino: would he be interested in doing a "ginormous" 3-D blockbuster, a la "Avatar"?

The director replied that he wouldn't do "a ginormous 3-D movie," but he's a fan of the format. "Actually, one of my favorite movies [of 2009] was 'My Bloody Valentine 3-D,'" he said. "That was a great 3-D movie."

Tarantino turned serious when Josh asked about the possibility of us seeing a "Kill Bill 3-D." As you may know, there have been rumblings for awhile that he's considering a return to the world of Beatrix Kiddo and the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

He didn't take the bait and spill any of his thoughts about the next "Kill Bill" -- which would obviously need a different title since (spoiler alert?) Bill is dead -- but he did admit that he would have taken a different approach with the first movie.

"If I had to do 'Kill Bill' all over again I probably would do volume one in 3-D," he replied. What, no love for volume two? It certainly gets me wondering, what "Kill Bill" might have looked like in 3-D. One thing that Cameron's "Avatar" made clear is that the tech doesn't necessarily have to be used as a gimmick, to give the audience the impression that things are flying off the screen at them. Some of the finest moments on Pandora were simple landscape shot, in which 3-D functioned to add greater depth to what you were seeing.

Then again, The Bride's showdown with the Crazy 88 -- particularly her duel with Gogo Yubari and that chained weapon of hers -- would probably look pretty sweet in 3-D.

Personally, I think it would look pretty sweet watching Samuel L Jackson taking a huge bit of a Big Kahuna burger in 3D.

Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair' To Finally Premiere In March
Source: The Playlist

We'll be honest, we never thought this day would come. But after years and years of promises and fan anticipation, Quentin Tarantino is ready to unveil "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" on audiences next month. Yeah, we can hardly believe it either. AICN were perusing the schedule for the New Beverly in March, as it's being programmed by the director, and lo and behold for one week, "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" has been scheduled. We're presuming line ups for tickets begin now. In the brief description, it's said the film shown will be "the unrated combined version which has never been seen theatrically in the U.S." Details on what will actually be in this version are yet to be seen, but Tarantino has chattered about it a lot in the past few years, so we have a pretty good idea. Back in the summer of 2009, Tarantino talked pretty extensively about what would be appearing in 'The Whole Bloody Affair' and it seems it will be the same movies we know, padded out with a lengthy animated sequence. Well, I wrote it and it was the biggest, most elaborate thing I wrote—her taking him down," Tarantino said. "This was when I thought 'Kill Bill' was going to be one movie. So already I thought a 20-minute anime scene [evolved from a seven minute sequence?] may not be the wisest move. So we didn't have them do it, so they were relieved they didn't have to do it because it was so big. [But] I actually showed it to Harvey Weinstein; I had the whole script written out shot for shot what it would be, so [I said], 'Harvey, this literally would make it complete. This is everything I came up with and wrote when I wrote it.' So Production IG just did it, and I just need to work with them a little bit and go over it with them—and I'll do that once this is officially behind me." And who are Production IG? They are an influential Japanese anime studio and production company behind some of the biggest titles such as "Ghost In The Shell." All that said, Tarantino likes to tinker and we wouldn't be surprised if some extras scenes or sequences wound up in there as well. Needless to say, it's tremendously exciting news and undoubtedly a DVD/BluRay release is likely around the corner. No word yet if the screenings will expand beyond the New Beverly, but this is one lots of people are going to want to see on the big screen. "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" will start screening on March 27th. And could this be the AICN secret screening at SXSW? We think so. Better start lining up, folks.

^lol. If the AICN secret screening room caught fire and all the fanboys inside perished, I think it might actually make cinema better. I mean, it wouldn't happen right away, but with less fanboys, it would only be a couple years before we started seeing less fanboy movies, which are the second worst movies there are after soulless rom-coms.

I would also not mourn the loss of the lame movie bloggers in that theatre, all stealing each others shitty "news" stories and getting to go to film festivals that I should be at and then all writing the exect same review of Super. Bitter...sure....right...most definitely.

I would have died in that fire, along with a bunch of people who left and later lied and said they didn't.

This doesn't belong in this thread, but I had never seen the movie and was interested enough so I watched it all the way through.
It was pretty funny to hear Harry tell a bunch of eager jerks (half of whom still thought it would be a new movie even though he had already announced it was old) that if they didn't LOVE this movie they aren't true film lovers.  HAH!  What an asshole!  Then he brings out Guillermo Del Toro and they tell everyone the five parts they like the most in the movie and all these desperate-to-please fuckers in the audience proceed to applaud every single time something Harry or Guillermo mentioned happens in the movie like they would have even given a shit if there were no intro.

Lights up, at LEAST half the theater is gone.  I was behind Doug Benson and I know he left pretty quick and that guy LOVES movies.

This was done for the premier screening and supposedly as a surprise for QT's birthday.

The limited edition print culture has gotten so out of control its nearly impossible to get anything from them now (online. In person, in Austin, it's prob the greatest). So basically anytime there's a sale they can't even announce the TIME because it will crash their site. So they have to randomly post it on twitter and within seconds their site will not even load (http://twitpic.com/3w5keg) because it can't handle the traffic. It's just an insanely frustrating experience every single time. (I lost a night of sleep over the Stout "Star Wars" prints.) It's just a terrible way to treat their fans.

They need new servers. They need to up the number of prints they make to prevent the secondary market from driving up the value too much. Or they need to stop selling them online.

Upping servers, I understand (though the few times I've been able to get posters from them, the servers didn't freeze at all), but the artists pretty-much demand the limited quantity (and that's what makes them so desirable after-all, right?) and selling them online is usually only done after they didn't sell out at a big event... if they didn't sell them online then you'd have NO chance at all.

I don't really follow the poster frenzy, but I did nab a ticket to their upcoming Mystery Movie. That was easier because it was on the Alamo website so it didn't crash.

They're gonna have some poster that you can only get at the screening but I have no idea what it's going to be. I don't really plan on buying it though.

Quentin Tarantino teases cinema release for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair
Includes a 30-minute anime sequence
Source: Total Film

Quentin Tarantino has revealed that his original vision for Kill Bill, subtitled The Whole Bloody Affair, is on its way to cinemas in 2015.

Before bowing to studio pressure and splitting it in half, Tarantino had originally planned to release Kill Bill as one, ultra-long film, including a significantly extended version of the anime sequence from the first half.

"What's going on with that is originally back when Kill Bill was going to be one movie, I wrote an even longer anime sequence," says Tarantino. "I.G. [the Japanese Anime Studio] who did Ghost In The Shell said we can't do that and finish it in time for your thing. And you can't have a thirty-minute piece in your movie."

"I said okay. It was my favourite part but it was the part you could drop. So we dropped it and then later when I.G. heard we were talking about doing Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, they still had the script, so without even being commissioned, they just did it and paid for it themselves."

"It's really terrific," he continues. "Anyway, The Weinstein Company and myself were talking about actually coming out with it sometime, not before the year is out, but within the next year with limited theatrical engagement as well."

I'm looking for one too! I finally bought the Japanese Director's cut of Kill Bill Vol. 1 ( with the Crazy 88 sequence in color )

Reelist if you mean a Japanese blu-ray, it will play in a regular North American player, as they're both Region A. If it's a DVD that's a different story.

I got the DVD, I couldn't find this cut on blu ray, but now I'm seeing that the "Whole Bloody Affair" has that cut except the only blu ray available I can find is in 720p ( if you go to image 10 )
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOOK-Kill-Bill-Vol-1-2-The-Whole-Bloody-Affair-on-BD-NEW/303840139242?hash=item46be4897ea:g:BnMAAOSw1wtf-Hwd (https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOOK-Kill-Bill-Vol-1-2-The-Whole-Bloody-Affair-on-BD-NEW/303840139242?hash=item46be4897ea:g:BnMAAOSw1wtf-Hwd)

Is this even an official release? I've never heard of a blu ray that isn't 1080p. What's so goddamn difficult about releasing a straight up directors cut!?
Now that I have the Japanese version, I'm beginning to wonder if it even has English subtitles.. Maybe I would be better off with "The Whole Bloody Affair" I at least wouldn't need to buy an all new player to watch it. The thing is, the Kill Bills are my least favorite of all his films after watching them over and over. I think there will be something about this cut where it will finally 'click' for me.

If the DVD you have is this version (https://www.play-asia.com/kill-bill-vol1-uncut-japanese-version/13/7047j) it apparently includes English subtitles, as well as both Japanese and English audio tracks.

Blu-ray.com doesn't show the uncut version of Kill Bill as having been released in Japan, and the releases that do exist there are all 1080p:

That copy on eBay is most definitely a bootleg, likely an upscale sourced from DVD versions.

According to this thread (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=245817&page=2), the blu-ray version of the film you want doesn't have an official release:

Quote from: RickWJ324The Whole Bloody Affair is supposed to be a Director's Cut of both films made into one movie. To date, I don't believe it has ever been made in any region.

Japan had 2 dvd's with extra scenes (which I have) but never the cut containing both films together.
Quote from: BluBonnetWasn't this released un Japan?

Quote from: ZombiAidNot on Blu-Ray.
Quote from: ps3bd_ownerIt was, in Japan.
Quote from: SockoI would buy Kill Bill Vol.1 if it was entirely in color.
