To kinda continue with the theme of Neon Mercury's post about too many DVD features for a bad movie... how about too few DVD features for great movies?!?! I love it when they count "Subtitles" and "Interactive Menu" as bonus features!!! This is the case with every Woody Allen DVD I own... can anyone think of any others?

Nick

Sleuth

Creepshow has the whole menu as an extra thing
I like to hug dogs

Pas

Saving Private Ryan SPECIAL EDITION ... features original theatrical trailer and crappier shit.

NEON MERCURY

here is a few that i consider great in terms of a quality film but crap in terms of extras or lack there of:

the pledge
eyes wide shut(
i know the box set has the bonus disk and the shining has the behind-t-s-)
bottle rocket
mulholland drive R1
in the bedroom
apocalypse now redux
the thin red line
leaving las vegas

Dirk

Most Kubrick films don't have much except maybe Spartacus Criterion
Casino
Mulholland Drive
too many to list really  :?
At wave level, everything exists as a contradiction. Everything is existing in more than one stage/place at any given moment. Everything must move/vibrate and constantly change to exist. Everything, including buildings, mountains, oceans and thoughts.

I've seen the aspect ratio of the film listed as a special feature.

goodfellas -- and it pisses me off that I have to flip the disc over.  that movie deserves a better DVD...

Pas

The first time I saw Goodfellas it was on this DVD, and I started with Part 2, cause there really is no way to know if you're even remotely drunk... I was telling my friends : "It says on the back it covers the life of a gangster from his childhood, so it's normal if it doesn't make sense right now, there'll be a flashback soon..." And when the credits rolled they all wanted to punch me. It was a sad day.

samsong

all three Malick films
Mulholland Drive
Trainspotting
Red Beard (commentary, but crappy features, ESPECIALLY for the price)
High and Low
The Deer Hunter
Apocalypse Now (Redux, too)

In some cases I'd definately consider it a special feature due to the earlier non anamorphic or 4:3 releases of some films. I mean the Kubrick collection releases kick the crap out of their originals (especially in the case of 2001). Amazing transfers.

I'd rather have that, than some insulting puff-piece, that tells you the plot line and not much else. Retrospectives can be good for the classics when they didnt have DVD's in mind, but most of the time its not worth the effort. Commentaries are usually good, but only rarely are the 'making ofs' worth anything (That moment, Full Tilt Boogie, Y tu mama, Jaws 25th etc).

Office Space had a special feature...that was pictures of the stars.  A still photo and their name.  What the hell is that??  That's one of those movies where you expect commentary...or deleted scenes, outtakes something!

But no!

I know a lot of people don't care but I hate that they don't put subtitles on many languages in a lot od region 1 dvds, like the criterion dvds...I mean why???? Don't they know is IMPOSSIBLE to find Rashomon or something like that on any pother region and that it would be cool to have subtitles in language other than english??? I don't mind it myself, I mean I speak english, but sometimes I wanna show a film to some one and they won't see it cuase it doesn't have spanish subtitles and they wouldn't understand it....

Magnolia, for example, the region 1 disc doesn't have spanish subtitles, and guess what?? so far ther eis no magnolia region 4 dvd...

that sucks...I mean how much can that actually cost to the makers of this discs...???
