Aronofsky Filming Flies
Pi director linked to new project.

Director Darren Aronofsky (Pi, The Fountain) is in talks with Paramount Pictures to helm their newly-acquired adaptation of author Shannon Burke's forthcoming novel Black Flies.

The novel, which does not yet have a publishing deal in place, follows a young man working as an EMT in Harlem while preparing to go to med school. On the job, he experiences various crises and stressful misadventures which are exacerbated when his mentor makes a wrong decision in a life-or-death situation.

Black Flies and Burke's previous novel Safelight both benefit from her own experience working as an emergency medical technician.

The studio is reportedly seeking a screenwriter to adapt the book. Assuming talks with Aronofsky proceed according to plan, the director would supervise the script-writing process.

Gamblour.

Cool, Bringing Out More Dead in 2012.

Haha, not being cynical. This sounds pretty cool, then again Aronofsky doing anything is awesome.

haha.. i was thinking of the bringing out the dead analogy also.  i'm just excited to see new projected projects the time between requiem and the fountain is too long for someone of aronofky's talent to stall.  still pissed about the "sometime in 2006, maybe" release sate for the fountain.  but this, and flicker are two projects to look forward to after fountain

Source: Hollywood Reporter

Paramount has hired Todd Kessler to adapt the Shannon Burke novel "Black Flies." Darren Aronofsky is attached to direct and is producing along with his Protozoa partner Eric Watson. Lorenzo di Bonaventura also is producing. The novel follows a young man who becomes an emergency medical technician in Harlem as a temporary stop before he enters medical school. While there, he experiences a range of crises and stressful misadventures while under the eye of a mentor who has been numbed to the point that he makes a wrong decision in a life-or-death situation. The Emmy-nominated Kessler was a writer-producer for "The Sopranos" and also was a writer for Michael Mann's "Robbery Homicide Division." He is repped by CAA and attorney Roger E. Kass.
