Looking to get into some CGI. What do i need?
Computers,hardware,software. ect
How do i learn? Books, classes, just doing it?
Computers... yes
Books... yes
Classes... wouldnt hurt
I gave a speech at Florida Atlantic University not long ago about Digital Distribution and almost all the people attending there were studying Computer Animation and Special Effects. I dont know shit about the programs they used or anything, but the stuff I saw was all related to Sky Captain's and the World of Tomorrow, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, etc... looked pretty fun
You need a high end computer. Lots of ram. 3D Studio Max is supposed to be some kickass software. Maya's another heavy duty program. These things cost a lot though, like $500-1000. Teaching yourself these programs may actually prove impossible unless you have lots of time on your hands to just fiddle and fiddle with it. That would be the best way, but also would take the longest.
Would Adobe After Effects be agood program for CGI? Or is that something diffrent?
steal the software, do the tutorials, just mess around. after a month of playing with maya everyday u should be able to do sum really neat stuff.
and yes u need a GOOD computer. preferably more than one to render.
