as for how i am while i show people movies, i lend more often than having people over to watch them, but when i do i just put it on and talk about it afterwards.  depends on the company and/or the film.

I really don't expect any one to help here, but if I don't ask it's a 100% sure.

I see a lot of you are going Blu. Do they make recordable Blu-Ray players?

I'm in a messed up place - I have a Samsung DVDR - that went wacky, refuses to record any more or recognize any discs it previously burned, recognizes maybe 50% of commercial DVD's. Now I have a lot of Unfinalized DVD-R's. Trying to talk to Samsung, but since it is out of warranty it seems dealing with them would probably be just like buying a new player all over again.

Now there is also Blu-Ray, which everyone, on a larger scale, seems to be converting to.

I really don't want to spend that much on a DVD only player - yet I have all the unfinalized DVD-R's that I am unable to watch.

What would you do?
I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away.

Catching up on some minor purchases. Each (excluding Dark City at $10) cost only $5 new. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly Blu Ray annoyed me since it includes theatrical version but not in Blu Ray style. In this package, it's on DVD. Doesn't make real sense.

Hastings had a buy one get one free on used blu-rays, a BOGO, so I have a list I carry with me anytime I'm at a video store and the bummer thing is, it's usually slim pickings for used blu-rays. The only one on my list I found was The White Ribbon (which was the LAST one I would have ever expected to find used) and the other three were the only good options available.

I would rather watch A Serbian Film with my grandparents than watch Passion of the Christ again, but otherwise that's a good haul.

I don't mind POTC. I think it's a beautifully filmed movie and on blu-ray it's stunning.

I've seen A Serbian Film. It's terrible. Just bad, bad, bad. What is WRONG with people?

I was actually kind of impressed by A Serbian Film. After all the warnings and vitriol I had heard about it, it ended up being a pleasant surprise.

Okay, "pleasant" might not be the right word. But it was generally well-made, and I thought it used the shock factor of its images and ideas better than anything that's preceded it in the torture porn genre.

I just felt like it was trying way too hard to be cool. It felt way too over-stylized. I knew all about it before I watched it, so nothing in it really surprised me. Maybe it would have been different if I didn't know anything about it.

I can't believe either of you saw that movie!  How?  Where?  Please describe this experience in story-form.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

I freelance as a P.I. sometimes and some wealthy broad contacted me because she found it in her husbands safe. She wanted me to determine its authenticity. I flew out to Hollywood to hang out with my homeboy Max who runs a porno shop. He got me in contact with some of the sleazebags who made it. From there it was all downhill. Espionage, murder, fist fights...............oh wait, that's the plot of 8mm.

I downloaded it off the interweb.

I was a conservative businessman from the Midwest whose daughter disappeared in LA.  After my private investigator spotted her in a porn movie, I journeyed deep into the seedy underworld of the San Fransisco sex industry in the 1970s.  Then I downloaded A Serbian Film off Pirate Bay and watched it on Saturday afternoon with all the lights on.
