SPOILERS!

After the first viewing I thought Martin had reconciled with his estranged wife. There's a scene where we don't see their text conversation where we're lead to believe that it wasn't a positive one. Hence why he decides to go back to his drinking pattern. The very ending reminds me of "The Wrestler", that also ends with a still frame.
