Title: hidden treasures
Post by: (kelvin) on December 10, 2003, 04:48:08 PM
Propose a film (or a few) which you think everyone has to see, a film that simply has to be seen during everyone's lifetime. Preferably a movie that is not that popular and/or known.

My proposition: Affliction

A Better Place
Rocco and his Brothers
Grand Illusion
In the Mood for Love

I actually saw it this week!  My prof spent the summer in France going through Varda's archives.  From what I hear, she's a control freak and a very difficult woman to work for (I guess her employees hate her).  She is still a genius.

No fucking joke. This is seriously one of my favorite movies. It brings so much back from my childhood as a videogame playing, neon clothes wearing kid from California.

Any DVD release news? Macguffin? Shouldnt you be on top of this one?

I caught the opening sequence of this on IFC recently, and it captivated me. I immediately added it to my netflix queue. Can't wait to see the whole thing.

I love this movie! I watched it the day I went to my first bar, my god did it get me in the mood (for some reason, I had been nervous about the possibility of being drunk in public). Campbell Scott rocks.

A very eclectic list:

MOVIES
--Il Posto
--The Saragossa Manuscript
--The Last Man on Earth (so many roots of modern horror go back to this one)
--Same Time, Next Year (my favorite sappy romantic comedy. Not for the cynical.)
--Hoosiers (I'm always surprised how many people under 27 haven't seen this sports gem.)
--Special Bulletin (A made-for-TV movie that was way, way, way ahead of its time. You should still be able to snag a VHS version.)

ANIMATED
--Grave of the Fireflies

DOCUMENTARIES
--Salesman
--The Thin Blue Line

Tsukamoto's Tetsuo
