it's a trailer to a film i'll never make.
Is it weird to say I actually didn't like the Magnolia trailer(s)? I love the movie, I just didn't like the trailer very much. It was mostly just the music I didn't like. not that I don't like Aimee Mann, I just don't like that particular song and didn't think it worked well with what the movie was all about. It worked more like backround music and I wasn't too into it.
Although, I think the first trailer for Punch Drunk Love was bril. I still watch that trailer every now and then.
Casino -- two Stones songs. Need I say more.
Glengarry Glen Ross -- a trailer has never been so perfect at capturing the spirit of the movie, yet giving nothing away, and on top of it all, being absolutely electric. Why is this not on the dvd?????
i remember creaming my pants when i saw the first teaser trailer to A.I.
always loved the Bringing Out the Dead trailer as well.
and Amadeus:
'what a story! what a scandal! what a tragedy! mozart mozart mozart!'

I wasn't talking about the music so much as the way the characters introduced themselves to the camera, and the Ricky Jay narration...
...but now that you mention it, I think the song is perfect for the trailer. It has the right tempo and sense of propulsion for the editing.

Wonder Boys- I dunno, it's just that everytime I see the trailer it makes me want to see the movie.
Adaptation- I like the song, too bad it wasn't used in the actual movie.
Die Hard With a Vengeance- It was neat with the ticking time-bomb at the beggining at the music is good.
Vanilla Sky- Same with Wonder Boys.
Okay, so like, what is the name of the song that plays in the Magnolia trailer. It's super cool, because it goes perfectly with the trailer, but it's not in the movie itself. Thanks. :)

Isn't it "Momentum" by Aimee Man?? And isn't it used prominently in the movie (playing loudly in Claudia's apt)??
It could be, maybe you're right. It's been way too long since I've seen Magnolia. I've only seen it twice, both times on DVD, but I've watched that Magnolia diary so many times. Greatest extra ever.
The movie itself wasn't by any means a cinematic masterpiece, but I have to say that the trailer for Not Another Teen Movie was the best because it started out with the deep, raspy guy voice saying...
"If you liked Scary Movie...
Who gives a damn?"
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
Where's Poppa? (1970)
The Long Goodbye (1973)
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974)
A Boy & His Dog - Sousa flashcuts (1975)
Monty Python & the Holy Grail - Chinese Restauant (1975)
Jaws (1975)
The Blues Brothers (1980)
This Is Spinal Tap - cheese rolling (1984)
Ghostbusters (1984)
The Limey (1999)
The Minus Man (1999)
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Use colors for your lists again
And no more eye rolling
I've probably said it before in this very topic, but:
Best trailers ever=The Shining, Clockwork Orange (and Rules of Attraction's affectionate rip-off trailer), and Magnolia.
I love old-fashioned movie trailers, too. All That Heaven Allows has a fantastic trailer.

'MI III' Gets Award for Best Trailer
The full 126 minutes of "Mission: Impossible III" probably won't win best picture at next year's Oscars, but it had the best two-minute trailer at the 7th annual Golden Trailer Awards.
A jury that included directors Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie chose the "Mission: Impossible III" trailer for best of show. It also won for best trailer of action movies over the past year and among 2006 summer blockbusters.
The Golden Trailer Awards, founded in 1999, bills itself as the "world's fastest awards show." At a recent New York ceremony at the Directors Guild of America, miniature movie star trailers were handed out as trophies.
Other winners included the trailers for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," "Wedding Crashers," "March of the Penguins," "Good Night, and Good Luck," "Match Point," "Thank You for Smoking" and "Transamerica."

my favorite trailer is sin city. hated the movie
I just love this trailer so fucking much I had to post it somewhere.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I11KCob7CMQ
I had the song from that trailer playing on repeat for about two and a half weeks straight last year. No regrets.

I like this one. First time I saw it, I thought "this trailer's fucking with me, isn't it?" and "I don't know if I'd like to see this movie, but I'm intrigued." No stupid dialogue and you just can't beat that song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfLLwP6AY6A
i love trailers almost more than movies so i will be overfeeding this thread.
i'll start with what i feel might be the most beautiful and comprehensive trailer of all time:
LAKE OF FIRE
-
and then descend into my usual madness:
hable con ella
-
revenge of billy the kid
-
the naked man
ill be back later.
I'm sorry, you're all wrong. The correct answer is
SHAKMA

ok, you win. Those are some great monkey effects. I actually found myself thinking 'how dey do dat?' which hardly ever happens since I know everything...So where'd you find it and have you seen the movie?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my american brethren.

the rumble in the bronx trailer got me so juiced when I was in 8th grade. I had just moved to America the year before and it was way before the age of downloading shit so that little trailer, for months, was my only fix. Also I missed the movie when it played in the theaters. and was disappointed by the actual movie.
I also really liked Milk's trailer. cool font. I actually never saw the movie 'cause I never saw the need after seeing the trailer.
I watched this trailer forever when I worked at movie theater
another animated one - there's this cut towards the end to the stupid techno dance beat that really got to me
o yeah and that american version of dragon tattoo's trailer made me happy too, the first one with the fake bootleg.
ahhh, that Rumble In The Bronx trailer. I caught that a lot in the previews for one of my action movies, either Con Air or Face/Off. For some reason, I thought the most impressive things he did were when he hits the guy with the refrigerator doors and jumps up through the shopping cart. I like to see everyday items put to use for kicking ass. Still haven't seen the movie, it was all the rage when it came out like you said. Guess I'm happy to hear you say it's not that good. I knew it!

Dude, you fucking live in San Francisco. You owe it to yourself to see it! You're missing out on some beautiful cinematography and pretty hot lovemaking. I know, I live in New York and haven't seen 'Rumble in The Bronx' but that's NOT THE SAME THING.
I posted this a few years back in the horror thread, but it belongs here. Might be the best trailer for an awful movie EVER:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2S2g-lHJyY
here is a scene from rumble in the bronx. you don't need to see it 'cause it was shot in vancouver and really only carried bronx in name only.
publically admitting i'm jealous

Holy shit...Kung Fuhrer, how come no one's ever thought of that before?
Also, this has to be the most promising and atmospherically perfect trailer for a blockbuster film in a long time.

as far as I know that's a fake or fan made if you like, the first piece of music is from the shining trailer and the second one sounds like it belongs to a shitty comedy.
some of the editing isnt bad but this trailer is horrible.
The Spectacle Theater (http://vimeo.com/spectacletheater/videos/page:1/sort:date) cuts awesome trailers for the offbeat films they show. Click that link for a full archive. These are some of my favorites:
American Hunter (1988) (http://vimeo.com/51972167)
Blueprint for Murder (1961) (http://vimeo.com/54616031)
Marquis (1989) (http://vimeo.com/80773846)
Dead Mountaineer's Hotel (1979) (http://vimeo.com/38238924)
A Dream Come True (1963) (http://vimeo.com/38666089)
Backtrack (1990) (http://vimeo.com/76982391)
Oh wow, I totally forgot about that movie.
What's wild is that in that same year, there was a movie with an almost identical concept, but the lighthearted romantic dramedy version of it:

As well as another movie that harnessed the inherent creepiness of Cameron Bright in a very similar way:

Oh those three, Birth is the only one even worth watching, but there was definitely some weird parallel thinking going through Hollywood in 2004.
Birth is a masterpiece. One of the most under-appreciated films of the last 20 years.
