It's like Mozart and Salieri...

only difference is that Mozart and Salieri were both talented.

Salieri was cursed with the ear of a first grade music lover and the talent of a third grade composer.
Ratner was blessed with the eye of a third grade movie lover and the talent of a housebrick.

And that's why he's a successful filmmaker yeah???  Y'know, I think some of you people who are bashing Brett Ratner probably wouldn't survive in a business that thrives on relationships and respect.  Grow up.

Yeah, exactly. Most everyone in the industry has the eye of a third grade movie lover and the talent of a housebrick. He fits right on in. Hence the making of the successful films.

And in regards to making into the industry? I have five words for you. Learn to fucking suck dick.

Oh yeah, not liking Brett Ratner, that delineates a snob. Man, and having an opinion, too. That's snobby. I guess we should all just become zombified lovers of EVERYTHING film, and never try to distinguish quality.

Come on, I don't care if you like him, but don't rag on somebody for not liking him. That's everybody's come-back here, if you don't like a mainstream director's work, you're a "snob". Please. And I know drug dealers and other such criminals who are "out there, making money", but I wouldn't be proud of that.
Those who say that the totalitarian state of the Soviet Union was not "real" Marxism also cannot admit that one simple feature of Marxism makes totalitarianism necessary:  the rejection of civil society. Since civil society is the sphere of private activity, its abolition and replacement by political society means that nothing private remains. That is already the essence of totalitarianism; and the moralistic practice of the trendy Left, which regards everything as political and sometimes reveals its hostility to free speech, does nothing to contradict this implication.

When those who hated capital and consumption (and Jews) in the 20th century murdered some hundred million people, and the poster children for the struggle against international capitalism and America are now fanatical Islamic terrorists, this puts recent enthusiasts in an awkward position. Most of them are too dense and shameless to appreciate it, and far too many are taken in by the moralistic and paternalistic rhetoric of the Left.

yeah, that comment i made was too much and it wasnt cool. i regret typing it and i want to hug you.

but come on, ratner makes classic popcorn entertainment and what he does i pretty much above average and you guys spend so much time hitting him up for having the talent of a brick and being pretentious. i dont really see that. many of you confuses his movies with what he says in interviews.

i think for what his movies are they are good. you dont have sit and overanalyze everything just sit back and enjoy cris tucker slip and hurt his ass.

most will deny it but conair is really great.

Did you just compare filmmaking to drug dealing?

Hahaha, I think I just did.... :)

Actually, lots of it probably IS like drug-dealing. I'm a movie junkie.
I guess my point was that making money does not automatically constitute something good.

I've never even seen a Ratner film, so I have no opinion on him. I just don't think it was fair to call Silver Bullet a snob. And you're perfectly right, Marlowe. We need popcorn movies, too. There are many I hold close to my heart.
