tips on shooting a documentary?

i was just wondering if anyone here could share some insight and experiences they've had making a documentary film? any regrets or things you wish you would've planned before shooting? i'll probably be shooting w/ a dv so i'm not to concerned about a limited amount of footage. i was just wondering what kind of things you wish you could have planned better.
