Zito Lives!
Latest Miami Vice casting.

Justin Theroux Online reported on July 17 that the 34-year-old actor "is currently filming Miami Vice" but they were unsure what role he was playing.

IGN FilmForce has been able to confirm with Theroux's reps at UTA that he is playing Vice detective Larry Zito, partner of Stan Switek (Domenick Lombardozzi).

Theroux's credits include Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (as the villainous Seamus O'Grady), American Psycho (as the Phil Collins-loving Timothy Bryce), Duplex, Zoolander, Mulholland Drive and the forthcoming The Legend of Lucy Keyes.

Larry Zito was portrayed on the original 1980s TV series by John Diehl. Zito, a recovering drug addict, died after running afoul of some shady figures in the Miami boxing scene.

Zito was the only regular cast member besides the original lieutenant, Gregory Sierra, to be killed off during the show's five-season run. Obviously, the series chronology has nothing to do with Michael Mann's contemporized movie.

Miami Vice opens July 28, 2006.

Thoroughly Theroux
by Hedwig

Not Henry David, but Justin T.
The name ablaze on the big marquee.
J. Theroux, that son of a gun,
Born in DC, Nineteen-Seventy-One.
For those of y'all kept in the dark,
In "I Shot Andy Warhol," Theoux played 'Mark.'
In "American Psycho" and "Romy and Michelle"
He rose from the pits of anonymity hell.
He chose "the girl" to keep himself alive,
And obeyed The Cowboy in "Mulholland Dr."
Bespectacled man, he's versatile,
He was even in "Charlie's Angels" for a little while.
But he's beyond that; he's on cinematic fire.
Now he's back with Lynch for INLAND EMPIRE...

Will my Theroux quotes from the INLAND EMPIRE thread (http://www.xixax.com/viewtopic.php?p=199218#199218) warrant a membership? I do believe I'm the only one on the board (planet?) who's ever quoted Theroux on Magnolia.

Blue Velvet star buzzes screening

By LESLEY ABRAVANEL
The Miami Herald (http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/12869958.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp)

A surprise celeb sighting at the Miami Beach Cinematheque on EspaƱola Way Friday night had cinemaniacs on the edge of their seats.

Actor Justin Theroux (he played Adam Kesher in Mulholland Drive) stopped by for a screening of Blue Velvet, which opened the MBC David Lynch retrospective and photographic exhibition.

After the movie, he surprised the audience, answering questions on working with Lynch, including on the upcoming Inland Empire, in which he stars with Blue Velvet's Laura Dern -- 20 years later.

Theroux said the new flick is likely to debut at May's Cannes Film Festival. Cinematheque's leading man Dana Keith will be at the festival for the 15th time because he says it's the only time he has to catch all the new movies.

Thesps Show DEDICATION to Theroux
Billy Crudup, Mandy Moore and Mia Farrow among those to sign on for the feature directing debut of actor Justin Theroux.
Source: FilmStew.com

Thesp Justin Theroux is moving into the director's chair, and he's building a strong cast for his debut project. According to Daily Variety, Billy Crudup, Mia Farrow, Harvey Keitel, Mandy Moore and Bob Balaban have signed to star for Theroux and Plum Pictures in Dedication with shooting slated to being early next year in Manhattan.

The script, which was developed by Theroux and David Bromberg, focuses on a chauvinistic children's book author (Crudup) who, after his friend and long-time collaborator (Keitel) dies, is forced to team up with a young female illustrator (Moore) in order to finish his next project. Balaban will play the book's publisher, with Farrow on board as the illustrator's controlling mother.

Celine Rattray, Galt Niederhoffer and Daniela Taplin of Plum will be producing the film.

Theroux, repped by UTA, has acting credits that include TV's Six Feet Under as well as the features Mulholland Drive, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and the upcoming big screen adaptation of the TV series Miami Vice. In addition, he recently worked with Ben Stiller penning the script to Tropic Thunder, a comedy which is currently set up at DreamWorks Pictures.

HDNet woos six for 'English' roles

NEW YORK -- Parker Posey, Drea DeMatteo, Gena Rowlands, Jeanne Moreau, Justin Theroux and Josh Hamilton are set to star in writer-director Zoe Cassavetes feature debut, "Broken English." It's the latest movie greenlighted by HDNet Films, which recently decided to raise its budget cap on future films from under $2 million to under $5 million if the right stars are attached. This under-$5 million project was packaged by Vox3 Films with most of the financing lined up from Japan's Phantom Film and France's Back Up Films before Vox3 approached HDNet. "With the cast assembled, they needed someone who could pull the trigger on production in three weeks," said HDNet co-president Jason Kliot, a producer on the project. "The great thing about our company is that we have in-house legal and all the financing from Mark (Cuban) and Todd (Wagner), so we had all the papers signed and the film going within a week." Phantom, Back Up and HDNet are co-producing the project.

Universal, Imagine roll dice on 'Ron'
Justin Theroux to direct casino comedy
Source: Variety

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have set Justin Theroux to direct "Chief Ron."

The Jordan Roberts-scripted comedy concerns a conman who claims Mohegan ancestry in an attempt to open a casino.

Brian Grazer is producing.

The comedy's inspiration is the true story of Chief Ron Roberts. His blonde hair and blue eyes raised skepticism over his ancestral claims but he prevailed in court and is now building a casino in upstate New York.

Theroux takes the directing job after completing the script for "Iron Man 2" for Marvel Entertainment and Paramount. Before that, he co-wrote and was an exec producer of "Tropic Thunder."

Grant Morris, David Gordon Green and Imagine's Erica Huggins are exec producers.

Project reps the first major studio directing gig for Theroux, who made his helming debut on "Dedication," a film that made its debut at 2007 Sundance before being released through the Weinstein Co.
