everyone remember that fake cover art i made almost a year back that made it's rounds all over the internet? well, this has nothing to do with it. but still, i find it interesting.
criterion's cover art for the film, which we've all seen before
(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.criterionco.com%2Fcontent%2Fimages%2Ffull_boxshot%2F175_box_348x490.jpg&hash=1aeb723ee65f4cde0c59b61978c58255befb1e4d)
and suddenly, this strange, fake looking cover art from dvdempire.
i have come to the conclusion that the dvdempire cover art is correct, and here's why: since this is a 2 disc release, and criterion is publishing all their new 2 disc releases in a regular 2 disc case (like traffic and 8 1/2), but also putting a box around it (like the royal tenenbaums). i suspect that this 'box' that's around the regular case is transparent, and only has the title and those bats on it, which explains why everything has an odd shadow. if any of you have seen the case for the 3 disc set of toy story, you'll know what i'm talking about here. it's a really cool idea, and i'm pretty sure that's what they're doing here.
criterion also did something similar to that (transparent case thing) with brazil 3 disc set.
yes, yes, sphinx... good work.
I still like yours better sphinx.
sphinx, you should put an actual size copy of your version up for us to print out so we can slide it into their version.

It's a tad pricey, but I think it's really good.
Seems almost a waste of the disk to have the edited version though... just because you could really only want to watch it once with commentary.

Yeah, the money thing IS a problem taking in consideration that i dont have any. I only have an avi version in medium shitty QT on my computer but since i think it is one of the most unique and mindblowing films ever i just have to get the
fattest edition available.

i am posessed by the ghost of pubrick when i say
phat.
brazil criterion collection is a very important dvd, especially if youre an aspiring filmmaker. youll learn alot about editing, the butchered 94 minute version is a must.
God that movie sucked ass.
I've never cared for Hunter S. Thompson, either.
I guess I just don't get it.
Quote from: XixaxGod that movie sucked ass.
:(
that is understandable, since from a certain perspective the movie has little plot or structure.
you suck megamix
i heard that alot of independant short films arent getting made in canada right now
must be frustrating for anyone trying. ERRRRRRRRRRRR not trying, for a devils advocate types
oh well

I don't see any difference between the first scan and the second scan. I think it's just two different scans in varying qualities.

There's a difference with the bats, and the splattered ink to the left of the title, but that's all I can tell...
the image has actually changed inbetween the time i posted this thread and the time of your reply.
So... the thread's all bullshit? There was never a cover that looked like the one you saw?"
The bats are different though.

no, i still believe it'll be one of those crazy transparent things

I agree with you Xixax about Fear and Loathing. I thought it sucked and I never could get into it.
Whenever Criterion comes out with a DVD...I always think I should give it another chance.
yes. now i have confirmation from dvdfile that the disc rocks, i am off to buy it on tuesday. i just need to get rid of my universal 'fear and loathing' copy.... :yabbse-undecided:
First time I saw it didn't really get it either. The second time I saw it decided to do a little motivation work and I smoked myself really retarded just before i pushed the play button. I thought I would get it this time, and I thought the "don't stop here. It's bat-country" line was funny but after that I just got kinda sick and I puked my guts out during the merry-go-round sequence.
Just felt like sharing.
nah, it's dopetastic.
I think it's more doperific.
The white rabbit scene is so familiar
Did i mention that i cannot wait for this fucking DVD?
mm.
just snagged my copy today. its do-diddily-opecious. its pretty heavy, too, theres a fat-ass booklet inside and the package looks so sweet...this is gonna be a good weekend.
Yeah, I really want to get this. Johnny Depp is really funny, just the way he acts and talks and looks. I'll get this very soon.
got my copy today too...for only $21, easy discounted price from the original $57.99.
commentaries kick ass
Sphinxus... where did you get it that cheap?
Got mine today (along with The Killers, One Hour Photo, Rules Of Attraction and Color Purple Spec. Ed.; thank God I saved Christmas gift cards for this day) and I must say, Terry Gilliam does some of the best commentary tracks. This one is right up there. I love it when a DVD is so jam packed it takes you days to get through all of it.
I could watch that main menu for hours.
Quote from: RegularKarateSphinxus... where did you get it that cheap?
got it at my local future shop. originally priced at $57.99, then a sticker that said $45.99 cheap! then i think someone accidentally stuck on a $21.99 cheap! sticker on it, and i pretty much
creamed shit my pants in the store when i saw it. it must have been a mistake or something, future shop's website lists it as $45...it cost me more to get the rare original universal release ($30) than the criterion version. this makes sphinx sad and happy
Man, I went to Best Buy AND Media Play and neither one of them had it. It pisses me off with all the money I spend there. I mean, it figures that Media Play doesn't have it but I'm disappointed in Best Buy, they usually come through for me with criterions. It's weird.

my local future shop had a mere
five copies in their first shipment, so i suggest you preorder or place a reservation or something with criterion titles.
The first Tower Records I went to didn't have them in yet - on order. The second one I went to had only two, and only one copy of The Killers Criterion.
ebeaman, try ordering through Best Buy online. You can pick it up at your local store when it comes in.
Best Buy only carries about 7% of Criterion's titles. They really arent that great. Borders and Barnes & Noble seem to be the best places to buy Criterions, on foot that is. I hate Best Buy. Best Buy is a big nazi corporation & they lie in their commericals.
Yeah but best buy is much cheaper than Barnes.
I couldn't get it. The only place that had it was B&N and I didn't have $40 with me. So, I just ordered it the other night for $29.50. It should be here soon. I can't wait. But I was pissed that Best Buy didn't have it. Circuit City too.
