It's worth it to just watch the full doc because the editing juxtapositions there are more interesting, but 2001: An Anime Odyssey gets at the Con tilt, while the full doc allows those characters to play against stories from manga publishing and anime video market.

I went to one Con in the DFW area around '05/'06 but I was very young so I only remember a handful of booths that were noticeable to me, and the hype of it as an event. Eventually I'd go to 2014's Comic Con in San Diego and by then the MCU was already swinging heavy punches. A totally different space to the early 00s. Cosplay is now nearly entirely mainstream, I feel like. Not to even delve into Bronies, video game culture, or the MCU's hand in it, I feel it's surfaced into something far less outlandish. Ten years later, B&N has an aisle, and eight years after that it's a manga corner.
