In 1992, teenager Sandi Tan and her friends Sophie and Jasmine shot Singapore's first indie -- a road movie called "Shirkers" -- with their enigmatic American mentor, Georges Cardona. After shooting wrapped, Georges vanished with all the footage.

I found it all rather self-involved and unengaging, but I'm not a young filmmaker. (If that makes a difference.)   I'll be interested in what any of the rest of you think of it.

I was engaged in the story of this self-involved woman! I think she's aware of that. You can question the self awarness. Is it cute that she lets her friend being harsh? But I thought that it was a refreshing way to show friendship. Ultimately, movies of not, filmakers or not, it's about being shaped by something that's missing: it resonated with me.
