Watched this on Netflix last night. Really well-executed and sort of as realistic as possible within the confines of the fantastical scenario that plays out. There are a handful of excellent scenes between actors, including Melora Walters, who plays the leadís mother. Iíd go as far as to call it her best work outside of Magnolia, especially during an exchange that occurs two-thirds of the way though and recalls a certain panic-attack-inducing segment from S01E09 of ďThe Girlfriend ExperienceĒ. The choice of expression on her face is quite something. Iíll never forget it.

The movie is written by Isa Mazzei, a former cam girl, and directed by Daniel Goldhaber, who apparently also used to direct her online porn, so thereís a definite authenticity to the portrayal of this world.

Madeline Brewer is tour de force. She goes all out, shockingly so. I feel like this movie crossed some sort of unspoken taboo threshold, and she completely brought her A-game to a part that must have required a great leap of faith.

It wonít leave you pondering The Big Questions, but the logistical detail put into the screen interactions and the insight brought to the setting imbues it with a realism that makes you feel dirty in a way thatís almost the cyber-equivalent of hanging out in a seedy 1970s version of Times Square.

Editing of the online interactions achieves an absolutely hypnotic rhythm, too. Honestly donít think Iíve seen digital exchanges portrayed so well, before.

Also notable, as some others have pointed out, for its total lack of judgment of the profession and main character. The onus of shame for partaking in these transactions is put squarely on the consumers, which you really, really feel.

Anyway, worth checking out.

Peter Labuza interviews Daniel Goldhaber on The Cinephiliacs podcast

The technical aspects he talks about beginning at 1:09:40 are nuts

Also, pete's friend Katelin Arizmendi shot this movie

To be honest, that Girls On Film segment you posted made such an impression on me that I'm pretty sure it was the reason I bookmarked Cam to watch in the first place, it being her debut feature. Incredible DP.
