Anyone watching this?
Refn coats his love for hyperstylized-Italian film onto Ed Brubaker'z neo-noir DNA, and it out does True Detective in every regard. Existentialism. Brutal Tableaux as Social Commentary. TV as a means of Arthouse Cinema. Absurd humor. Barry Manilow. This is Refn creating at The Return lvlz of serialized storytelling. Granted, that means it has a
very
particular pace.
There's no way to pitch this. It's an arthouse mood piece that stomps America's relationship to machismo and violence into North Hollywood, gravel-ground pulp.

Just finished this with WorldForgot yesterday. I would love for Refn to publish a book on color in film. His use of green had me transfixed, like he's evolving what Hitchcock did in Vertigo.
