It feels like a really uneven album to me, but "Liability" hits me like a damn freight train.

Now you're in the *spoiler* place.

A little bit uneven yeah, but the heights are so high that it doesn't matter to me. Her voice is my favorite thing about it. And I agree about Liability. It's the most underrated song of the album.

It's pretty impressing that she was like 20 when she recorded this.

It's really easy to forget how crazy young she actually is. She seems somehow... beyond age.

I think the biggest problem with the album is putting Homemade Dynamite and The Louvre right next to each other in the 3 and 4 slots. That's where you're supposed to put your power hitters, but both those songs fall flat for me.
Now you're in the *spoiler* place.

KJ, I have to admit to not being familiar at all with Lourde. Unfortunately South Park made her a punchline in my mind for far too long. Damn, I despise that show.

But since your AV is Claire, trashique art angel, my savior + goddess, I knew your taste was worth meeting a new pop mainstay (and all that carries with it, fandomz, music backlog, the myth-building that comes with pop scenez).

So it was a Melodramatic morning for me, and my first deep listen to any of her work. What's evident off the jump is that here you have the diaristic power-pop that keeps Karaoke powerful. Car commute or OG or shower singin' this made me feel how Frank Ocean's albums do, like I'm reading the most melodic confessions on the airwaves, soaring with strings and committed to honesty most of all. The Lourve is the sorta song that I already expect to end up singing to myself when all the roommates are out, but its hook/chorus definitely lacks the power of the album's openers. Hard Feelings' breakdown all the way into its siamese-sibling Loveless was my favorite explosion of sound, I think. Gosh, I am so ready for Grimes' new output. TayTay fkn WISHES she had a song that effectively combined trap drums with headvoice falsetto teasing the way Sober II does,

Green Light and Liability I vaguely recall playing in the car earlier this year, Spring, when those tracks were still singles, when some friends from Boston visited me in LA, and I am certain anthemic pop rings loudest when it strikes on nearly-forgotten moments. Pop anthems help us claim memories, maybe.

Well, it's unfair to compare anything to Grimes! (I write as a look at my two framed Grimes poster hanging over my TV screen). I'm really curious about what she will do next. Straight up J-pop with japanese lyrics?

Really, I am surprised myself how much I like this album. It's not like I can argue why it's better then other similar albums. It's a album I put on and feel, I feel the melodies and her voice, which is how I always listen to music. I'm not one of those who try to understand or break down music, because I don't know shit about it. So, yeah, I just like it and I'm glad you liked some of it.

Do you have any other favorite pop albums?

Yeah, I saw her in "what's in my bag?"! She seemed charming. Will give it a try.

I've been way into Phoebe Bridgers, whose debut album just came out, lately. She's very folk-pop, kind of a combo of Julien Baker, early Laura Marling, and Aimee Mann. I love her songwriting and her voice so much.

EDIT: For even more reasons to be in love with her, the URL of her official website is www.phoebefuckingbridgers.com, and the title of her album (Stranger in the Alps) is a reference to the profanity replacements in the edited-for-TV version of The Big Lebowski.

Now you're in the *spoiler* place.
