Anybody heard of her?

She's Brooklyn-based, formerly of Beat the Devil, and currently moving rock and roll forward as the harmonium wielding front-woman of Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers.

She has a great, cutting voice and is a terrific lyricist. I first saw her opening (sans Hookers) for Grinderman at the 930 Club in Washington, DC - her performance was mesmerizing, so I promptly sought out her records and became quickly obsessed. Months later, after having moved from New York to New Orleans, I got to see her three times in, I believe, about as many weeks - first opening for Acid Mother's Temple, and then for Man Man. My roommate and I actually got to know her and the band a little bit, escorting them around the French Quarter after each show to all the best spots. Very nice, they were, and the shows were fucking incendiary.

"No, I don't even laugh at seasickness! I happen to regard jealousy as the seasickness of passion."
