Thanks to a new initiative from state film organization CNC, more classic and important French films will be digitally restored. Some of the films already approved for restoration are Jacques Tati's Jour de Fete, Mon Oncle and Playtime, Rene Vautier's Avoir 20 Ans Dans Les Aures, Agnes Varda's Jacquot de Nantes and Jacques Demy's Le Joli Mai and Peau d'Ane.
Claude Lelouch, Alain Resnais and Jean-Luc Godard's documentary feature Far From Vietnam will also be restored, as well as three short films.
The CNC committee, which selects the films that will be restored each year, is headed by Gilles Jacob, the current president of the Cannes Film Festival.
