and probably 'volta' and 'because of the times', but so far the year's been kind of standard. no big revelations unless i'm missing something , or getting old.

edit: wow, look how boring those album covers look when put together.

this year has been insane for me. so much good stuff. all my favorite artists putting out new albums, plus some artists that are new to me. some good to very good that haven't been mentioned:

bigideas, what are the first three album covers?

some favorites so far:

1. sister vanilla- little pop rock
2. panda bear- person pitch
3. bill callahan- woke on a whaleheart
4. liars- self titled
5. bjork- volta
6. black rebel motorcycle club- baby 81'
7. patton oswalt- werewolves and lollipops

-new pornographers album seems to be their worst
-the animal collective album was awesome the one and only time i listened to it, bust since it has not been released yet, i did not include it
- the feist album is half good. i either love the songs or i hate them. if its a slow year, it may make it to my list
- the new okkervil river album sounds like it was recorded by a different band, and i think it like it. i have not listened to the whole thing so far

yeah i forgot about them so i gotta add

Volta

LCD soundsystem - sound of silver

and spoon - GA GA GA GA GA

i was also mildly disappointed with the new polyphonic spree's...but maybe with repeated listenings it'll grow...

It just got on my nerves.

i liked how he recreated a Pet Sounds-ish quality, but i could definitely do without a lot of the repetition/noise stuff.

If that was the only reason people liked Animal Collective, not many people would like them.

I look at all those bands (including Liars, haven't heard the self titled yet though) the same way I look at Sonic Youth.

Half of their stuff is some of the worst music I have ever heard, the other half is some of the best music ever made.

I've never said I was a AC fan. Person Pitch was the first thing AC related I have purchased. i'm actually in the process of getting some AC albums from a guy who is selling a lot of his cd's cheaply.

I'm a melody guy first and foremost, but on the other hand I like experimentation in song structure, etc. When it's just one part repeated over and over that's not very creative to me. Then again, I love Talk Talk where they have long tracks with repeated drums riffs........Talk Talk seems to stay interesting through........10 min tracks seem 4 mins or infinite...........anywho, another record i don't think that's been mentioned illustrates my tastes - half song oriented/half noise oriented. a bit too much noise tracks for my tastes, but i still think it's a great record.

I'm still gonna save my initial post in this thread for the end of the year, cause there is still alot of stuff coming out but I wanted to say that National Anthem Of Nowhere is one of the best albums of the year and everyone should have it on their lists.

Era Vulgaris has really grown on me too. I just have to keep it seperate from the rest of QOTSA's discography.

the first half has been pretty boring.  i'm not going to list any albums at this point, but i'm fairly confident that by the end of 2007 i'll have a solid top ten (the fall looks good). lots of CDs have been firmly okay, but there have been some great songs...

Quote from: pete on July 15, 2007, 09:14:20 PM
someone should make me a mix.

... so here's a list of great songs from 2007

*limited to one per band

bishop allen - the news from your bed
andrew bird - plasticities
feist - 1234
panda bear - bros
justice - d.a.n.c.e (especially if you want to dance)
architecture in helsinki - heart it races
YACHT - so post all 'em
animal collective - fireworks
deerhoof - +81
common - the people
spoon - the underdog
arcade fire - ocean of noise
bc camplight - the hip and the homeless
dan deacon - big milk (but "the crystal cat", "wham city", or "okie dokie" if u still want to dance)

the apples in stereo - same old drag
the shins - wincing the night away
the new pornographers - the spirit of giving
avey tare and kria brekken - lay lay off, faselam (unreversed)

So far....

10 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F517HpPUIsxL._AA240_.jpg&hash=8d964537b7b6d5a134ac6d14f93774e802beb8b7)
Queens Of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris

I don't like any particular song on this album, but each song has at least one small part in it that's really awesome and worth a place on a top 10. For example 1:25-2:17 of Battery Acid is killer. As is 1:12-1:42 of I'm designer. I hated the reworked version of Make It Wit Chu. The one on the last Desert Sessions is alot better.

9 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F41Qf9mAlPiL._AA240_.jpg&hash=d92cdbc71a5eeda1ed3d800192fec9be32671b5a)
Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha

This is like genius pop. You don't feel guilty listening to this pop album because it comes off as smart and classy. Most people don't even know it's pop. He's got a fantastic voice too. Whistling is kind of dated though. Reminds me of Judy Garland for some reason.

8 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F517D-W9G2xL._AA240_.jpg&hash=ecf206ff2a5f954dfe890a31214aa9a930fc573d)
Kinski - Down Below It's Chaos

Just really fun stoner/classic/experimental sprawl/ghost rock (okay, I made some of these genres up). Fun tracks include Punching Goodbye Out Front, Argentina Turner, & Child Had To Catch a Train. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it's alot of fun.

7 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F51609xbg72L._AA240_.jpg&hash=cea5b4405b56707783f230b6515855d926b712f2)
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

They've done better and they've done worse, but even mediocre Wilco is better than good everything else. I think it's got a lot of great songs on it. Nothing epic, just good solid songs. Either Way, You Are My Face, Side With The Seeds, & Hate it Here are awesome. It's like hipster elevator music.

6 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F41I3hFdug9L._AA240_.jpg&hash=dc43a84869f50fbce894e52486e834d42610bcb5)
The Ponys - Turn The Lights Out

This has something for everyone. The guitar work is really awesome. If the first two tracks don't get you hyped to do something on a Friday night then your top 10 probably consists of soundtracks and audiobooks.

5 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fg-ec2.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F51F3ig8lYGL._AA240_.jpg&hash=e9411b0c090292b23c546df77a121c9ce92e6936)
Battles - Mirrored

When I first heard this album, I thought it sounded awesome but I felt like a fucking nerd who draws pendulums, and handcrafts those little plastic hummingbirds that defy gravity and keep ducking their beaks into a glass of water but then I saw these guys play live and I was BLOWN AWAY and it gave me a new appreciation of the album. Seeing Tonto and Atlas live was perfection. This percusionist pounds away like he's beating a drum. The vocals, or lack thereof are still nerdy, but they fit.

4 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F41K3TWlfDxL._AA240_.jpg&hash=00018d34c0a14790064da4b77c0092dc980063d4)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81

This IS their best album. They finally learned how to keep the grittiness but add fun, infectious melodies. Windows and Cold Wind are the two best songs they have ever made. Everything that this band had gotten close to, but never became is realized on these two tracks. Weapon Of Choice should have been the first single (was it?) because it gets you pumped and kids would eat it up.

3 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fg-ec2.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F51YPscEL3hL._AA240_.jpg&hash=06a8fe854c75081382fd5629d5b0e5ae996de6e9)
Apostle Of Hustle - National Anthem Of Nowhere

Normally I hate Canadian bands cause they come off as self servicing (they give themselves blowjobs) and cheezy but this band is one of the lone exceptions. If someone says "What's indie music?" give them this album because it sounds like the quintessential indie album. The production is great too.

2 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F61IPAfsjlIL._AA240_.jpg&hash=50420d5531246b8c5afaac80102a28c674cc623b)
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

There is absolutely nothing controversial about this album. It's easier to get into than California. It almost feels like Britt Daniel isn't even trying, he just knows he's so badass he can put the easiest songs on an album and it's gonna be top 5. I don't think he gave this album much thought cause it's so fucking simple but it sounds so fucking good. The song titles look fucking stupid with their whiteboy ebonics spellings, but the songs themselves make up for that.

1 - (https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.rateyourmusic.com%2Falbum_images%2F903913.jpg&hash=2e31528f6409108fae9058e5867e80018a173a53)
The Fiery Furnaces - Widow City

This is heavenly. Theres just something in the way Eleanor Friedberger sings that I really like. I think it's the way she says her "OOOOOO's." Duplexes Of The Dead and My Egyptian Grammar are EXCELLENT. For once the weird sounds on a Fiery Furnaces album don't make my ears bleed. Everything on it sounds really cool. I had heard early versions of songs like Japanese Sleepers/Slippers and was never really impressed and felt the new album would be a misfire and they should just take a couple years off. I was glad to be proven wrong.

that it comes off so effortlessly is part of what's so great about it, but you can tell the album was really dissected and poured over to make sure that each song was perfect. nothing's haphazard but it still comes across as this fun, off-the-cuff album.

Oh, no doubt alot of work went into making the songs sound like they were easy. It's like being the only guy who's running a 10,000 person marathon backwards, and coming in second.

has anyone mentioned Coconut Records (i do not find it via Search)?

it's Jason Schwartzman's solo moniker.
it's surprising pretty good - and even has guest spots by Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschanel.
you may look into it if you like early solo McCartney/White Album era Beatles/Bright Eyes/The Elected.

i guess he's keeping it about the music as i have not seen his picture associated with it.
he started his own label to release it and you can only order it online or they have physical copies in some indie record stores.

i'm not sure about the iTunes release, but the physical CD has unlisted demos/working tracks on almost all of the songs included - some interesting in their own right.

here's my final list for 2007.  there are still albums that were released this year that i have not heard yet.  so, if you are reading my list and you are wondering how come i don't have ______________ (album) on my list...well, i prob didn't hear it yet.  i do not have them ranked in order exccept for my #1.  i did list my fav track on each album and explained why ___________ (album) is on my list.  finally, i will mention the most dissapointing release in 2007 IMO.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri700%2Fi776%2Fi77638t4lmw.jpg&hash=403b8227a7fa159c60c2303bd820be3a8ac85682)

ryan adams-easy tiger
fav track-"the sun also sets"
why?-i am a huge fan of his work.  from whiskeytown, heartbreaker, rock n roll, cold roses, etc.  there is an album by adams that has dissapointed me.  i feel these songs are very strong, well written and his voice is top notch.  it's perfect alt-country to me and the album is second to cold roses as my fav adams studio cd.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri900%2Fi960%2Fi96005w60jy.jpg&hash=7cea90b595ed40c8bc79c29d2e1226acb0541829)

okkervil river-the stage names
fav track-"a hand to take hold of the scene"
why?-all of the hype that this band has received from this site is well deserved.  RK got me into this band the moment he started praising black sheep boy .  these guys are good-real good.  will's vocal range is all over the place from a whisper to a scream.  i look as the stage names as a concept album.  and i draw comparisions to roger water's solo material.  lou reed is a huge fan of okkervil river too.  lyrically, emotinally, and musically...it's beautiful.  it's nice to feel.  and how fucking cool was it when they brought in "sloop john b" into "john allyn smith sails"!  critically, this is the album of the year.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri700%2Fi768%2Fi76808wr7xh.jpg&hash=4e9001aa5297f34aca6b6a8d1f90224b16b78b26)

the national-boxer
fav track-"ada"
why?-if i could do what RK and mod have done to showcase to everyone the importance of okkervil river, then this is the band.  i think the album is a small step back from alligator, but equally solid material nonetheless.  if you are down with leonard cohen then you will love the lead singer's voice (matt).  this is really good music w/o the emotional ride that you get from the stage names. boxer is easy to get into and the whole album has that late at night, highway drive, cigarette in mouth vibe.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri700%2Fi769%2Fi76952zyt6i.jpg&hash=446424593e314975ae682723a3f2db6ed03dfa9b)

queens of the stone age-era vulgaris
fav track-"into the hollow"
why?-i have always loved the queens.  they are, plain and simple, a great rock band.  this album is a departure from their previous work.  i think era vulgaris is much harder to get into.  i wasn't a fan os the first single, "sick, sick, sick".  the album is deep and layered with guitars and distortion.  the great thing about the album is that you find something new each time you listen to it.  it's the typical album that grows on you.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdrj000%2Fj081%2Fj08176qz9oa.jpg&hash=edff2cb107e9f389803c2d1933079ed3fcd676eb)

jens lekman-night falls over kortedala
fav track-"i'm leaving you because i don't love you"
why?-this is something different.  jens has the singer-songwriter, amazing voice and story teller vide thing down.  i think if you like sufjan stevens, morrissey, and kitschy-esque chamber pop stuff, you'll did jens.  he sings about such depressing thingz but coarts them in his gentle voice...so fucking wierd. i like this b/c it's so unique and beautiful.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdrj100%2Fj170%2Fj17016hlibb.jpg&hash=0e3afbac5c41822ddd076fb0aee26cfb9899ad73)

radiohead-in rainbows
fav track-"reckoner"
why?-every year, minus pablo honey, whenever radiohead release a new studio album it's should be on anyone's top 10 list.  these guys are just masters of the art of making beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional, rocking, and etheral music.  this is their second greatest body of work next to ok computer.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri700%2Fi715%2Fi71503hxe89.jpg&hash=40e506887f07d79199c2ef3069c740b482e8e4c2)

wilco-sky blue sky
fav track-"on and on and on"
why?-this is 2007's most underrated release and will go down like ryan adam's 29 as each respected band's most under appreciated album IMO.  i feel that what wilco has done with this abum is perfected the sound from a ghost is born.  it is an expertly crafted album.  tweedy and co. just keep doing what they do.  it's nothing revolutionary but just a side-step in the same direction from the last album.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri800%2Fi877%2Fi87758k0x9d.jpg&hash=8b1d3e9939971461a139e879bbae4b40efc13b04)

spoon-ga ga ga ga ga
fav track-"don't you evah"
why?-here's my entertainment weekly style capsule review:  ain't no ga ga ga baby talk here.  these cowboys from texas are all grown up from their previous album, gimme fiction, and are ready to "spoon"-feed us delicious hooks, tasty melodies, and juicy lyrics.

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri300%2Fi375%2Fi37527da3pb.jpg&hash=f2b0269d894b8004c5a1c77eeff7962c2c656123)

andrew bird-armchair apocrypha
fav track-"imitosis"
why?-i am new to andrew bird.  this is my first album purchased and i have become an instant fan for life.  this is a perfect album in every way

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdrj000%2Fj027%2Fj02769n0jlc.jpg&hash=aff15653708080d88c4bcd5b9cb13cb4306f0a83)

kevin drew-spirit if...
fav track-"lucky ones"
why?-fuck anyone who thinks that this album is second tier to an "official" broken social scene album.  this is my personal favorite album of 2007.  this is such a cool album.  everything that makes broken social scene of one the greatest living musical entities, you will also find that chemistry here.

most dissapointing album of 2007:

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.allmusic.com%2F00%2Famg%2Fcov200%2Fdri700%2Fi753%2Fi75397d4ziy.jpg&hash=15d28c6c80f8baa2558d590aa7fae26da8e953a7)

white stripes-icky thump
fav track-NONE
why?-annoying, aggravating, stupid, .....fucking boring

I'm 30 so I'm allowed to like really obvious stuff...

1. Radiohead: In Rainbows - everyone knows why...
2. Okkervil River: The Stage Names - It would have been #1, but I think this one is a slight step down from BSB while In Rainbows is a step above HTTT... either way, brilliant album.
3. Andrew Bird: Armchair Apocrypha - saw him live twice this year and that just made me more impressed by him.
4. Arcade Fire: Also saw them live this year... great show, good album... I'm not as in love with AF as a lot of people... I actually like this album more than Funeral though.
5. Animal Collective: Strawberry Jam - I don't think the album is totally solid, but the great tracks are really great.  I predict these guys have about two really amazing albums in them and then they'll start to suck then break up
6. The National: Boxer - another bunch of guys I saw live and was impressed with... and they were playing during the day, which is probably hard for sad junkies like them.
7. Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglove: Once OST - After the movie, I checked this out and every time I listen to it, I listen to it ten times in a row.  Not super solid, but pretty grape.
8. Bill Callahan: Woke on a Waleheart - it's nothing near as good as his last, but it's still got some terrific songs.  Also saw him live a couple times this year.
9. Modest Mouse: We Were... - you know what they say... "Better than Good News" is good news
10. Wilco: Sky Blue Sky - disappointing? yes, but after seeing them play the songs live, I grew to appreciate the songs more.

rk and pm inspired me to revamp and expand...

in rainbows – radiohead
fav track: keeps changing... today ill go with jigsaw / arpeggi (... maybe videotape)
its been praised enough. probably my least favourite radiohead album since bends but its still incredible.

volta - bjork
fav track: dull flame of desire / wanderlust
only slightly edged out by rainbows. i get the best natural high listening to this woman and this album is no exception.

...................................................................

neon bible - arcade fire
fav track: ocean of noise
easily the best new indie band of the decade (so far). heard nothing but good things about them live and ill be seeing them in feb.

icky thump - white stripes
fav track: im slowly turning into you
i dont understand the hate. its not their best album, but i think its good. damn good. it encompasses everything i love about the band.

strawberry jam - animal collective
fav track: peacebone
this was my first collective experience and i really liked it. so eccentrically melodic and hypnotic. i need to get more of their stuff.

Anyway, I didn't think the album was very good.

i just started listening to bowerbirds the other day and it sounds pretty great.  that'll probably be on my list.  mine's pretty boring..

panda, strawberry jam, love is simple, caribou, sunrub.

dr. dog had a pretty solid release, not as good as their last though.  lots of good songs on okay albums (thinking of andrew bird, of montreal).

Most of these lists are touching all the same bases, so I'll just throw in a few different ones:

Brandi Carlile - The Story

One of the greatest voices ever, even if her lyrics and melodies occasionally verge on trite.  Still, the point in the title track when her voice cracks is the most heartbreaking moment on any album all year.

Best songs: "The Story", "Losing Heart", and "Cannonball"

The Fratellis - Costello Music

I've listened to this album far more than any other this year.  Not even a close call.  Imagine a melodic talent on par with Burt Bacharach and then make him the frontman of a Scottish pub band, and you've got the Fratellis.

Best songs: "Flathead", "Whistle for the Choir", and "For The Girl"

The Honorary Title - Scream and Light Up the Sky

I just like The Honorary Title.  That's all there is to it.  And this album rocks so much harder than their first.

Best songs: "Stuck at Sea", "Stay Away", and "The City's Summer"

The Alternate Routes - Good and Reckless and True

I just heard of them recently, but I've been liking this album a lot.  It's kind of Ryan Adams-ish, with more of a mainstream, Gin Blossoms sort of polish to it.  Good singer.

Best songs: "Ordinary", "Time is a Runaway", and "California"

(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fecx.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F61gt%252BYLfjwL._AA240_.jpg&hash=128408834303e5197f988e46488b137f93fd5421)
Bright Eyes - Cassadaga

I'm not gonna lie, this is not among my favorite Bright Eyes albums, but still, I like Bright Eyes enough that it would have to be really bad to not make it on my list.  There are some really good songs scattered throughout, even if the whole thing suffers from Every Song Sounds The Same Syndrome.  Plus, I have a hard time forgiving him for having Rachael Yamagata and the girls from Eisley singing background on one of the songs and then completely burying them in the mix.  :yabbse-angry:

Best songs: "Four Winds", "I Must Belong Somewhere", and "Cleanse Song"

Eisley - Combinations

More accomplished, more creative, and more polished than their first album, yet somehow not quite as memorable.  Still, Eisley harmonizes like no other, they still write great songs, and their drummer continues to be surprisingly badass.

Best songs: "Invasion", "Taking Control", and "Many Funerals"
Title: Re: SO FAR THIS YEAR 2007 (TWO THOUSAND AND SEVEN)

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone

In Rainbows

The songs I've heard from The Field and The Shins were good, but didn't listen to the albums.

I haven't listened to much music this year that I've been happy with. These albums were disappointing:

Clap Your Hands
Kings of Leon
Queens of the Stone Age
Foo Fighters (big surprise)

And I just didn't really try. Probably would've liked Spoon, The National, Spirit If, Okerrvil River if I had listened to them.

Back when Yahoo Music used to have their "What's Next" section highlighting upcoming artists, one of the videos I saw on there was Eisley's "Marvelous Things", and I went at bought their album the next day.  Then I bought "Combinations" on iTunes the day it came out.  They're one of a handful of bands right now that I'm automatically willing to buy whatever they put out.

Now that I've had a chance to catch up...

1
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/inrainbows.jpg)
Radiohead - In Rainbows
No explanation needed.
Favorite tracks — Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Videotape, All I Need, Nude. Really, everything except Snatchers.

2
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/gogosmearthepoisonivy.jpg)
Múm - Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy
Mindblowing. I don't exactly have the words to describe this now, but it's nearly perfect. Definitely my favorite Múm.
Favorite tracks — A Little Bit, Sometimes; Marmalade Fires; Winter (What We Never Were After All); Rhuubarbidoo.

3
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/drumsandguns.jpg)
Low - Drums and Guns
Hypnotic, beautiful, melodic pieces about war (real or figurative). It's all so articulate, and the lyrics are very sharp. Some really interesting/creepy images. Genius throughout. And there's a special kind of concision going on here... I love how they're not afraid to keep the songs nice and short. This is a grower.
Favorite tracks — Always Fade, Murderer, Hatchet, Belarus.

4
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/lacucaracha.jpg)
Ween - La Cucaracha
Classic Ween with mainstream twists. This album is sort of mixed, but I think some of it is among the best they've made.
Favorite tracks — Lullaby, Blue Balloon, Your Party, Friends.

5
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/thecon2.jpg)
Tegan & Sara - The Con
This album is also a bit mixed, but when it's good, it's really freaking good.
Favorite tracks — Like O, Like H; Call It Off; Dark Come Soon; The Con.

6
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/cross.jpg)
Justice -
I've listened to this album many many times (just because there's so much to hear), so some of it annoys me now. But I can't argue with it. I love the feeling of urgency/climax.
Favorite tracks — Genesis, One Minute To Midnight, Phantom Part II, Valentine.

7
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/proofofyouth.jpg)
The Go! Team - Proof of Youth
I like the band's concept, and I love many of their songs. These tracks are smashed together a bit more coherently than those of previous albums.
Favorite tracks — Grip Like A Vice, The Wrath of Marcie, Patricia's Moving Picture.

8
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/newmagneticwonder.jpg)
The Apples In Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder
Insert hyperbolic Beatles comparison here.
Favorite tracks — Energy, Same Old Drag, Sunndal Song.

9
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/gagagagaga.jpg)
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
The vocals annoy me sometimes, but the music is just too good.
Favorite tracks — You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb, Finer Feelings, The Underdog, Don't You Evah.

10
(https://xixax.com/files/jb/covers/volta.jpg)
Björk - Volta
I was disappointed/depressed/angry about this one at first, but I think I'm coming to terms with it.
Favorite tracks — Wanderlust, Earth Intruders.

I like all of these albums, but I'm most passionate about the top 6. I heard 2 and 3 only recently, and I'm forcing myself to put them down right now so I don't wear them out.

I've listened to or sampled pretty much everything on every respectable person's list, and I have to say there were a lot of disappointments. Neon Bible? No Cars Go is a great song, but for the rest of the album, all the throwaway lyrics and uninteresting tunes completely turned me off. Fake Empire blew me away, but the rest of Boxer put me to sleep. That was actually the most baffling contradiction of them all. Savannah Smiles is a really good song, but the rest of The Stage Names makes me pretty sick. Their clever-for-the-sake-of-being-clever shtick is really disappointing.

Also, I'm getting tired of The White Stripes.

i only heard this recently and it really is mind blowing. FWANO is still my favourite of theirs, and some days my favourite album ever (i think its just because its easier listening and has a more eternal feel), but this one is getting better with every listen. really amazing stuff. mum and ween are two of my favourite bands but every time they release something new it slips by me and i dont hear about it until several months after its release.. i spend too much time listening to the same music. its only the third album ive heard from 07 that i would call great, though i still havent heard the new ween, but now ive definitely got some new stuff to look into since ur one of the few members here who's music picks i consistently dig.. although i still dont get all the spoon love :yabbse-undecided:

I could only get into a few of the songs on Great Destroyer. I think this one is more consistent and more interesting, and it's growing on me like Great Destroyer didn't.

Drums and Guns was my first Low record and I liked it well enough to start asking what to get next. The recommendation I got was for Things We Lost in the Fire. I will probably order it with my next Amazon order.
