On another thread, Ono talked about the possibility of XIXAX extending itself by creating an area where people could subimit their film essays to. I think this is a great idea and can even be extended further to people writing weekly reviews, columns, essays and articles of any subject related to movies. It could go from just an average review to a news report/opinion on upcoming movies to an article on gender roles in Hollywood. Whatever. The benefits of this is that it extends the website beyond just a forum into something bigger. It would also allow for these articles to serves as sources of actual content to reply to on the forum. Both would help the other. Everyone here wants to see the site develop and this could be one way of doing it where people would get involved in ways they wanted to.

There is a downside. With people trying to write legimitate reviews, they may give the impression that they are "Film Critic" of XIXAX to everyone else. That shouldn't be at all. I think everyone should be given free opportunity to write on any movie and subject and if 3 or 4 reviews end up appearing for one movie, then great. It just makes everyone realize they all have a chance to submit material on equal footing.

the idea of reviews sounds kinda superfluous. what are ppl gonna talk about in the forums?

essays would work. and one thing is certain, MrBurgerKing desperately needs a column.

In the forum, the board will still have a thread dedicated to a movie. If people write a longer review for the movie, there would be a link to it in that thread and people would respond to the review still in that thread. It'd be nearly the same as someone writing a really long review in the thread because replies to it would still be in the thread.

i'm ready to spend 17 bucks on a MrBurgerKing T-shirt.

I second that brilliant idea.  And where do I sign up for the MrBurgerKing t-shirt and column e-mail notification list?

Redlum

Good idea, GT. For new releases or DVD reviews, perhaps user reviews could be catergorised under the film title, as I'm sure lots of people would want to contribute. I don't think this would have a negative effect on the discussion of films in the forum at all. People might go to the effort in a review/essay to make more interesting points than they would in a post and these can be discussed in the forums.

Also a Mr Burger King column would be brilliant.

Yeah, excactly. This is what this board needs. More old-fashioned film discussion instead of all these sissy-iddle-chatter-girly-fights...

molly

i wonder what Mr BK will say about having his own column

Gold Trumpet

For this to work, there needs to be confidence that actual content (articles, reviews, columns) would be submitted on a fairy regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly). Anyone willing to sign up for this? I'm willing to try and it'd work out nice for me cause I have a writing class coming up anyways.

Hopefully XIXAX is open to the idea and more people get behind this project and committ to seeing it go through. I know a good number of people I'd like to see write for this and if they don't reply here anytime soon, I'll bug them with private messages.

I'd be very interested to read stuff from you...no reviews though. We already know what you think about the movies being released the upcoming years...

That seems limiting.......What should I write about then? Even columns have the author's opinion in it. I do try to go further though with my reviews on current movies than just whether I liked it or not.

ono

Can we get an opinion as to whether this idea will be considered?

Pubrick

i don't think so.

there's many more admins tho, maybe one of them is into it..

all i know is that xixax is planning changes, as u would've guessed from the logo poll. these particular changes don't appeal to me.
under the paving stones.

Gold Trumpet

It has a chance to work. I ran the idea by XIXAX in private messaging and got him to agree it is an interesting concept. Yes, an admin has to show interest in it to want to pursue it, but I think more importantly a good number of people here have to commit by saying they'd extend themselves to be regular writers of in depth articles. If that happens, admins may want to see the project go through because it will gurantee positive results.

SoNowThen

If you'd want me to, I'd be happy to contribute. Not regularly, but from time to time when something really strikes me as worth saying...
Those who say that the totalitarian state of the Soviet Union was not "real" Marxism also cannot admit that one simple feature of Marxism makes totalitarianism necessary:  the rejection of civil society. Since civil society is the sphere of private activity, its abolition and replacement by political society means that nothing private remains. That is already the essence of totalitarianism; and the moralistic practice of the trendy Left, which regards everything as political and sometimes reveals its hostility to free speech, does nothing to contradict this implication.

When those who hated capital and consumption (and Jews) in the 20th century murdered some hundred million people, and the poster children for the struggle against international capitalism and America are now fanatical Islamic terrorists, this puts recent enthusiasts in an awkward position. Most of them are too dense and shameless to appreciate it, and far too many are taken in by the moralistic and paternalistic rhetoric of the Left.
