on the old pt board there was a weekly film club, I forget exactly who ran it, but i remember most of the picks were good. would anyone be in to doing that again?

There was?  :?

Oh, it must have been in the DVD section.. I never went there...

Xixax

Sounds like a cool idea.

We could use the "groups" feature to make administration easier.

yeah, good idea, i think the pants creamers are getting a little lonely.

I remember the group never really working out.  Like no-one ever saw the movies or they just wouldn't talk about them.

I would definately be up for it though... as long as we were given enough time to watch it.  I have Netflix and it takes them a while to send me each movie.

We would have to set up some rules before we got started.

-and how come I was never admited into the Pants Creamers?  Are you guys that elitist?

Xixax

If it's been tried before and didn't work, then I vote for us not to repeat history.

i think the main thing was discussion, no one really had anything interesting to say about the movies. but i saw most of them and liked them. and rk's right, people got left behind b/c it was something new every week, if we were to do it again, new rules are in order.

I'm up for it...
but what about Film of the Month.

That is plenty of time to see a movie and discuss it.

That's a good idea. Perhaps we could try to pick something that's going to be on IFC or Sundance that month. Then if anyone here doesn't have those channels, they can netflix or rent it... Shouldn't be anything *too* obscure, for accessibility reasons.

I would be willing to try again if we made sure that we set up the rules in advance.  I think the problem with the last one was that we just started too soon.

It was like "should we do a film club?" /"Yeah"/ "Okay, it's blah blah blah and it's only available on VHS in PAL... you have one week to watch it"

As long as we decide in advance how we're gonna do it, I think it would be alright.  I'll help organize it with Lester, if he would like (PM me, if you want).  We need to come up with an orderly way to do this without creating chaos.

You should make this happen, Lester. I think it's a cool idea.

I started that Movie of the Week. I went with a week because a month is too long and two weeks is just long enough that people would put off viewings and lo and behold, it would be on to the next movie. It could work with a little re-jiggering, but the last one definately failed. Basically I don't think people enjoyed feeling obligated to watch a movie.
It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

I really like that idea. It would motivate me to watch more movies, however, even if everyone saw it, I'm having trouble imagining much discussion coming out of it, unless the movie is super amazing, most of us will just go "Well, I liked it, it was good." How can we motivate serious and interesting discussions?

I'm a netflix whore, so I'm in. I think a movie a wekk is a fine idea, and a discussion following is perfect.

I think anyone who is somewhat serious can jigger a few hours for one week.

I'm all for helping in any way.
