I don't think there's any CG in the scene that JB is talking about (in Eternal Sunshine).  I'm pretty sure it's all forced perspective and that's really maybe the most poorly executed part of that film's effects.

and not to go off subject here, but NOTHING beats the forced perspective in LOTR.  That shit was MECHANICALLY BUILT so they could perform camera moves and keep the perspective.  The set moved with the camera.
