Fuckin' cool... the fireworks remind me of the ones in Blow Out, or the ones Scorsese used in Cape Fear and Gangs.

Everyone should check this out.

it's so fucked up. i look at those pictures in the warehouse and feel like i was there, like "i remember that day!" but alas, when the picture was taken i was probably sitting in front of the computer reading up on x4 from greg's site (before there even was a message board).

Same here.

Reemember the time we were playing catch with sandler? He had that tennis ball he was throwing around to everybody. He threw it at me just as a truck drove by... I jumped up in the air... And caught the ball over the top of the truck... It was the greatest moment of my life... Until I threw it back and totaly muffed the throw. Missed him by a mile. How devistating!!! I still cry about that day. Why didnt pops put me into baseball instead of B-Ball. Damn my parents... Damn my parents to hell!!!

Got my dvd today. I've had a chance to play around a bit.....very impressive. Great transfer, the soundtrack is very nice (Dolby Digital EX)no DTS for me...

PTA also shares his thoughts on the transfer in his unique way (from the booklet):

Notes for enjoyment:
Get Barry's suit blue, blue blue. Don't be shy. Get Barry's shirt white. Don't be afraid to let it bloom a bit. Turn up the contrast! Make sure your blacks are black and listen to loud!

The extras: I don't want to spoil too much for everyone. But, wow, wait till you see the first deleted scene (the sisters call). Its over 7 minutes and I wasn't prepared for Barry's comments about a little boy playing outside his shop....lots of other great bits, very fucking cool...

Other little things. The 12 scopitones are indeed the internet snippets. I thought they might be lost, be they're here :)

On Disc 2, if you press up on the remote, it highlights punch drunk love. Press enter, and all the extra features will play randomly. Kinda of cool and not an easter egg as pta says this about it in the book:

For Something Different:
On the bonus material disc, move up to Punch-Drunk Love. Sit back, relax and enjoy all supplemental features in random order. The computer has final cut each time, so enjoy its guidance...total running time is 34 minutes.

More Greg thoughts....the Bonus features do indeed have Korean subtitles. It's gotta be a weird PTA joke about bootlegs dvds. I'll try and find out...

Also, the matresss man commercial. Not sure if the fall is real, but it looks like it hurt PSH...you'll understand when you see it.

The booklet is very cool. There's lots of behind the scenes shots, pudding lids, various odds and ends, etc. A lot to see...

Disappointments? Sure, I wish their was a commentary track. I wish more deleted stuff was included (I know there's priceless footage with The Brothers). I would have like to seen interviews with the cast and crew, the pudding guy, jeremy blake, etc. I don't think it would have ruined the experience, but it's paul's baby.......

Bottom Line: I'm damn happy to have it and you will enjoy!

Sounds fucking aces.  After buying Adaptation on DVD, Ive found a new respect for superbit, and I recommend studios including it for as many releases as possible.  Make the disc a double and just put the extras on the other one, like PDL.  Can't wait.

The current Premiere magazine gave "Punch-Drunk Love": The Movie: ****/**** The Disc: ****/****
(**** = A Must-Own)

what i cant understand is that the whole point of dvd is to have great picture and sound quality.  why isnt every fucking movie THE OPTIMAL QUALITY!?!  why isnt SUPERBIT just the standard format?  why are there discs packed with other shit and bringing down the picture/sound quality.  it doesnt make any sense to me how any movie should get a release less than this.

My daughter just came through with the greatest father's day gift ever..!!
Please don't hate me because you are jealous.
But I have to go watch it again.

Thank you Mr PTA & Tina :-D

Sorry, that was a few lifetimes ago.
If you saw me now, you wouldn't want to get close enough to find out..!!

Most people think my puppy is a girl too, but no again.
I do have the best daughter in the world.

btw....some scenes on the DVD seem different than the movie.
Like, when the brothers knock Barry to the ground and we see the license plate and the 99 cents store, I thought he said "pudding".

Could be the memory is going..?

Yes! Got my copy today, just watched the bonus material, which is all very much like the film, though not very extensive. Still a bummer that there's no commentary or documentary  :(

I'm watching this right away.

Yes, I would have loved having more stuff in the bonus disc.
But the quality is so good that I can't complain.
The sound is sooooo nice.
I see my earlier confusion about when Barry says "pudding" was because "Blossums & Blood" does not use the same takes as are in the movie.  So, my memory is not gone. It's just that I don't know where to put things.

Yeaaahhh....nooo.....that's really funny.

The deleted scenes are very entertaining,
and they belong right where they are.
Mr PTA has a good feel for when something is overdone.

Also, I'm still trying to figure if the falls were staged.
They must have been set up.
But, man, they sure look like they hurt.

The scene we mentioned has a little boy playing outside while Barry is doing the sales pitch for the fungers, and Barry notices how cute he is, just soooo cute, I'd like to bash that c#@%s^$!-M8&^%f*&^%$#g head in with a sledge hammer, he's so cute..!!

My favorite is the series of phone calls from his sisters where they call to tell Barry about how 2 of the sisters can't agree on what time the party should start.   Barry says, in an easy going manner, that either 6 or 7 is fine, whatever they decide..... so she angrily blames him for trying to confuse everything.

This gave me an ulcer.

just watched the movie this morning. It's been too long. I'm sorry, it's the best movie of '02. Good God I Missed It and am so blessed to have Tet Kakimoto owner of A1 Video in my life. God bless 'im for breakin' the law, letting it blossum early in my home.
Also, really nice to see Greg's name in the spec. thnx. on the DVD.

DVD review from Entertainment Weekly:

In the glorious light of the San Fernando Valley, an armchair traveler in a bright blue suit (Sandler) collects frequent-flier miles and shivers with repressed rage. A peripatetic woman (the luminous Watson) appears and inexplicably takes an interest in him. Sparks fly. Tears flow. Paul Thomas Anderson' elliptical, stunningly beautiful 2002 Cannes prizewinner is a meditation on true love, the ways in which we are all bizarre, the magic of the perfect match, and the preposterously unlikely nature of the whole enterprise. EXTRAS An indulgent mix, including an arty short, a hilarious commercial for the movie's Mattress Man, and gorgeous artwork by Jeremy Blake, who designed Punch-Drunk's Rothko-on-acid interstitials. A-

Another sign the end of the world is near. "Kangaroo Jack 2", is a lock. Anthony Anderson, told E Online that in it, "Jack ends up in Vegas, he says he may get there by way of Brooklyn. Either way, Anderson says, "The kangaroo's in trouble." God help us.

Los Angeles Times review:

Punch-Drunk Love
Adam Sandler, Emily Watson
Columbia TriStar, $29

There were two types of reactions to Paul Thomas Anderson's ("Boogie Nights") offbeat comedy-drama about a lonely small businessman with several bossy sisters who finds himself a victim of an extortion plot after he calls a phone sex line — viewers either loved the film or found it as excruciating as the sound of nails being scratched down a blackboard. Sandler should at least get kudos for trying something different, but his character of Barry Egan is such a loser it's hard to muster any sympathy for him. Watson, though, shines as a young woman who inexplicably falls in love with the socially immature Barry.

The two-disc DVD is pretty much a waste. There's no commentary from Anderson, and the second disc features some trailers and a weird 12-minute featurette titled "Blossoms & Blood," which includes alternate takes, art work and a music video. There are also two deleted scenes, 12 "Scopitones" — those multi-colored panels that lead in and out of scenes — and a funny faux commercial for "Mattress Man," starring the great Philip Seymour Hoffman.
