I hadn't owned a Black Keys or National album before those two (even though I've heard of them over the years) and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by both. I thought MGMT also grew exponentially from their debut.

The Spoon album seemed to drop from view almost instantaneously unlike Ga, but I saw the other day they are recording an ACL show soon.
I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away.

This new Black Keys album was a definite disappointment to me.  I don't know if they're growing stale to me or if it's too overpolished or what, but it just seemed pretty weak.

In fact, this year has kind of sucked insofar in terms of new music.  For me anyway, you guys seem to have your lists thoroughly planned and that makes me jealous.

EDIT:

Ok, maybe a top 3 could work for now.  Then I'll see Pitchfork and have a deeper opinion on Surfer Blood, Sleigh Bells and Beach House.

Teeth Gnashers - Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Crowcat - Freestreet

Yay, I heard it:
1) Wolf Parade - Expo 86
2) Spoon - Transference
3) New Pornographers - Together

I heard it but so what?
1) Vampire Weekend - Contra

This list is sparse, yeah, but nothing else matters.  Expo 86 is so good it makes up for everything else.

I'm terrible about keeping up with new music, but lately I've been listening to a lot of Ellie Goulding, a lot of Mumford & Sons, and a lot of Josiah Leming. So I guess that's my list. I also loved Broken Bells, but I hardly listen to it at all for whatever reason.
My house, my rules, my coffee

The big ones for me so far have been:

Owen Pallett - Heartland

and

Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself

However, whatever Everything Everything eventually come out will be the best album of the year

"We always do..."

hey modage why do you hate putting a title under album covers that clearly have no text written on them at all?

to everyone else: thank you to everyone who does title their pics, it's really great that you don't assume ppl just magically know what a bunch of faint lines on a beige background refers to. it's great that you don't think that if people are not cool enough to instantly recognise the random picture you posted that they're probably don't deserve to be told. it's great that you are trying to SHARE your information instead of just preaching to the choir. it's great that you have some consideration for some members who might actually be interested in hearing about music they may have missed because they generally don't have the time to scour the internet for the hot shit, and use xixax to get a heads up for music like they do with the other parts of the site. it's just great that you're not assholes.

Haha, but the is what makes it exciting, no?

Also: I just asssumed people would remember from when it was posted in Now Playing.  I'll title them soon. See above.

Post however you want. It's not that difficult to find out what they are if you're not a complete lazyass or just looking to complain about something.

I think my favorite album of the year is probably Yeasayer's Odd Blood. It has the worst cover ever so I'm not going to post it. EVER. I pretty much like every single song on that album. I also like James Murphy's new album. I Can Change might be my favorite song of the year. I think the new Black Keys is the best thing they've done since Rubber Factory. I wasn't digging their new overproduced sound they've had the last few albums but they finally nail it here. I love Unknown Brother. It's a great song. Have one one me by Joanna Newsom is really great too! Oh, that Suckers album is really good! Ariel Pink gets a thumbs up but doubt it will make my eventual list unless this year is really weak.

I was really let down by more albums than I have liked this year (so far). Surprisingly, I've found a lot of the releases I was looking most forward to very boring. Spoon, Beach House, The National, Liars (HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?). Just wasn't feeling them even though their previous albums were some of my favorites.

Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

Pitchfork Music Festival, that is.  I've heard their albums very little but seeing them live may change my tune! Pun definitely intended.

Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself

I've yet to hear this, but I imagine it'll make my list as well.
