ive got clockwork orange on dvd, and there is no special features, nothing, are all of kubricks other dvd's like that? out of all movies, clockwork should have some special features!
chris
paths of glory: nothing
spartacus: criterion collection 2-disc set (i aint listing all the features)
lolita: nothing
dr. strangelove SE:* Featurette: "The Art of Stanley Kubrick: From Short
Films to Strangelove"
* Documentary: "Inside the Making of Dr. Strangelove"
* Original split-screen interview with Peter Sellers and
George C. Scott
* Original advertising gallery
2001: nothing
clockwork: nothing
barry lyndon: nothing
shinning: * The Making of "The Shining" with commentary by director
Vivian Kubrick
EWS: * interviws with tom cruise, nicole kidman, and steven spielberg
there are also collectors editions of 2001, clockwork, and full metal jacket that comes with the soundtrack, a 70mm film still and 16 page booklet (or something like that, not sure about the 70mm still for all of them)
also for lolita, strangelove, clockwork, barry, shinning, and full metal jacket there are the original mono releases and then new 5.1 realeases and anamorphic. (i think lolita remained in mono though).
and there are also 1 if not 2 other versions of spartacus that arent the criterion edition
Eventually they will find a way to release special editions and ultra special editions of each. The cash will be flowing, and I plan to get a piece of the action.

what the fuck?
Quote from: cecil b. dementedin vietnam the wind doesnt blow it sucks???

Kubrick would be rolling in his grave. Like I said before, that movie is never taken seriously enough. Musta been all that borderline comedy stuff at the beginning. Sigh...
Kubrick's a hard believer in just letting the movie speak for itself. That's why he never did audio commentaries or put a lot of extras onto his dvds because he thought that even interviews, or documentaries would be speaking too much for interpretation on the film. It's sad because I would love for his dvds to have so many extra things to it, even like things relating to the history of the film and all that, not interpretational things.
I've heard of a special edition coming out for each movie and all, but I have no hopes of any anytime soon.
There are a lot of Kubrick movies that need to be made Criterion except just Spartacus, which is a good film at best and not really a Kubrick film anyways.

hey i love full metal jacket to death.
its just that tagline, which i never heard before. sounds weird.

I love FMJ too and I agree with you... I was just saying whoever wrote that tagline (probably a studio exec or a studio exec's trained monkey) probably thinks it's a joke.
kubrick wrote it.
~rougerum
Quote from: The Gold Trumpetkubrick wrote it.
Prove it.
Nothing really to prove. Kubrick controls every single aspect of marketing, from what goes on the posters to what exact newspapers advertisements the movie will go in. Kubrick even has had movie theatres change their seating, like one time when he had the first two rows of a cinema taken out because he felt it was too close to the screen. Kubrick even has personally has called up theatres around the world when hearing complaints of his film being out of focus. this is no bullshit. He is the absolute controller of everything that goes into the marketing and the closest any studio exec will ever get near what he does is by seeing an advertisement in a local paper for one of his films and pissing on it. Kubrick either wrote that himself or he approved it.
He likely wrote it since he is the main person doing the marketing for his movies.

1. That is a new tagline for a new edition.
2. Kubrick is dead.
:|
it was on the original poster.
~rougerum
the one ive always seen was "vietnam can kill me but it cant make me care"
That's new for me actually. Even so, restored poster was made before Kubrick died as he supervised the special edition dvd collection released right after he died.
~rougerum
apparently, one of kubrick's close friends (whose name escapes me) had seen kubrick pile up all this footage in the corner of his house that the man never used in his movies. this includes outtakes, deleted scenes, and alternate takes for every single one of his films. in kubrick's will, his friend was given specific instructions to take all the footage down to a field and burn it, which is what he did.
Damn it!

i always thought the tagline shouldve been "We will gouge your eyeballs out and skull-fuck you". also the tagline for Eyes Wide Shut "Cruise Kidman Kubrick"was terrible and A. Buttfucking Kubrick by changing the movie for the rating system and then B. Not even having the common courtesey to give a reach-around and release it unrated for the DVD was a
crime.

I'll bet Kubrick wanted it that way to piss on sensitive American audiences.

That's why I figured there wouldn't be any
great special editions coming out, so I asked for the box set for Christmas. The
Kubrick: A Life in Pictures documentary kicks ass! It's good to have the films because all of them are classics.
A few questions:
Is there a widescreen version of Dr. Strangelove on DVD?
So the difference between the A Clockwork Orange Kubrick Collection edition and the Special Collector's Edition 2 disc set is that the second disc is an audio soundtrack CD and there is a "making-of" booklet and a frame still?
Does anyone have this edition? And is it really worth it?

I thought the cruise, kidman, kubrick tagline was cool. kubrick is one of the few directors who could get away with that.
I guess I found out the answer to my Dr. Strangelove question but I have another:
Does the 2001 DVD from the Kubrick Collection have the same film transfer as the Limited Collector's Edition 2-disc set with its "Fully restored widescreen version, digitally mastered for optimal picture and audio quality from new elements created for the Video Master, sourced from the 65MM Super Panavision 70 original camera negative and 6-Track magnetic sound masters"?
Depends which edition of 2001 you have. If you bought the original one with mono sound, then no. If you bought the new one with 5.1 sound, then it's the same transfer but with the soundtrack, box, and still frame.

That's not a friend at all...
I don't care how close this guy was w/ Kubrick, he is solely responsible for so much dissapointment that I'm convinced we should hunt him down and doublecheck that he actually did this before we force him to start writing the world's longest apology letter...

I strongly advise you to not buy the collection as a new one is on its way, as a matter of fact I did mention this before but here it goes again.
'You might want to hold your buying of the DVD box set, Jan Harlan recently told in a Q&A that another collection with more extras is on the works. That would make it the third one.'

Wow, I'm glad I read that Q&A thing w/ Harlan.
I have yet to buy the Kubrick box set (I already had a few of the DVDs) and recently made the mistake of buying the Deluxe Edition of 2001 (such a waste of money for nothing more than a booklet and a film frame) so I'll continue to hold out if this new box set might come around...
aw
Another box? Fuck that. I already bought it the bastards. :(

Maybe it could be a good time to sell it, I don't think many people know about this, not that you would screw them because the new one hasn't been put on sale yet nor has a release date, but the value of the older box set will drop when the new one comes out (IMO).

I sold my old one for a nice price on half.com earlier this year.
i still have the first one, so i am waiting for this one. (can you guys really deal with not having the kubrick set for MONTHS? if you intend to sell it early that is.) sounds painful to me.

Shit......there will always be a new box set out. In 30 years they'll find some new footage in a basement somewhere and put out a new one. Just buy the dvd now and get it over with...you could die tomorrow.
Speaking of Kubrick having control of every aspect of his films, I read that he even changed The Shining after it's first week in the theatres. At the end there was a scene with mother and son in a hospital after the whole ordeal. Kind of a 'they made it out OK' scene. I'm glad he took it out...the ending, as it stands, is perfect.

The scene involved Wendy, Danny and Ulman at a hospital right before they leave the Overlook, anyway, Ulman throws the tennis ball to Danny then it faded for the shot of Jack's 1928 picture.

Just wanted to say Kubrick rocks and I don't have the box set yet. FMJ is cool and the tagline cecil posted is the better one. I had always heard the blowing and sucking one...I like the Vietnam can kill me one better. That's all.
I liked the blow tagline but that's just me.
