My favorite part was when you went to another message board to get that smiley.

And used it twice within the span of about an hour. :?
I like that emoticon. It's hyperactive and probably on crack. The emoticons here are all lazy and uninspired. Just a heads up, I'll probably be using it sometimes.
If people really like an emoticon, we could throw it in. We can change them pretty easily.
But I personally like this one better...
:laughing2:
Yeah, Stefen's looks too much like Pete.
Figures.

please update/change these emoticons. variety.
but dont get rid of this one ":yabbse-tongue:"
we want something new and fresh man. please...thanks
You're right, it's probably time for another emoticon update.
And speaking for myself, these could definitely go...
:o 8) :P  :drinking: :rainbowafro: :turn-l: :splat: :guns:
And maybe we should move some yabbse ones to the top tier.
I think there should be a better surprised face, and not one with bulging eyes, but more like AIM's surprised face. That one would work really well because Helena Bonham Carter ripped it off in the Big Fish trailers (never saw the movie, maybe it's in there too)

... 8) .......
Whoa. whoa. whoa. no way man.
no way.
You lost your marquee so your trademark emoticon is next. 8)
I dislike them, and refrain from using them unless absolutely necessary.
Keep the bald guy with the sunglasses. But add a moustache.
Those have never really looked like sunglasses to me. Seriously, what sunglasses look like that? (They just look like big eyes that are looking in one direction.)
But we shall keep that emoticon if the people demand it.
8) as for this one. i like the "meaning" behind it but i dont think it is representive properly through this emoticon. when i think "cool" this=" 8) " doesnt really come to mind. but its close. perhaps if there was one with a newer and more modern pair of oakley glasses and their should not be a smile. cool people dont smile. i actaully think that in secret that this emoticon is homoerotic. when you really stare at that thing you start to get this feeling that there is something under neath the surface. as if the emoticon is saying "drink me". so now that we have a homoerotic emoticon. we need something to replace the "cool" one.
maybe it does need a mustache and not a smile but a smirk or something like that.
What's wrong with this one?

Yeah, personally or politically?
I see it as a metaphor for Xixax politics.
I see it as a metaphor for S&M
how would you do emoticons if you were to use film punctuation instead of written punctuation?
for example, i thought that the all purpose smiley [ :) ] or " : ) " might be something like this:
dither from black to yellow over 6 frames, cut to three frames of black, cut back to yellow for three frames. wash out over the course of 12 frames
what? are you asking for the mosaic recipe? i think a smiley face using film grammar would be a picture of a smiley face.
no, that would be an image of a smiley for a few frames on film, essentially making this statement if you buy into semiotics, "here (there) is a smiley face"
which is different from using elements of punctuation: cuts, dissolves, wipes, beats, color mattes, or tones with duration. the idea isn't to use images... it's to use what editors put between images to help separate or inflect clauses, just as we use the punctuation with which we make usual emoticons.
i could not care less about this question. people wouldn't understand that description to be a smiley face ever. what people put between images isn't seperate from images... you can't dissolve from and to nothing. an image of yellow or black is still an image. a picture of someone smiling would be understood as a picture of someone smiling. JEEZ.
edit: i actually have made a movie using an emoticon. i shot an emoticon. a good time was had by all.
jesus reinhold, you're gonna make the worst movie ever.

Why not make it and see what happens? Creating an image out of editing sounds like an interesting idea to me (granted, I don't think it would ever impart the idea of a smile). As it stands, your "description" is negated by the fact that it's written, so one could simply ask why you didn't write ": )" or "smiley".

lol :yabbse-grin:
relax, xixax. isn't this the place for idle chatter?
jeeeeeez. wash in. cut to red for eight frames. bars and tone for two seconds. cut to red for three frames. fade out for 49 frames.
"wash in"?
oh god, you're gonna make Tarnation look like citizen fucking kane.
to clarify, none of this crap would ever make it into any of my work.
Ah whatever, don't let these guys pressure you into dumping a concept you had. At this stage you should be experimenting and then when you inevitably realize how dumb an idea is you move on.
