Yes, an excellent list.  (I quoted the films you mention that are particular favorites of mine.)  I just noticed there's no Pulp Fiction...

Something Spanish

i'd need some time to rack my brain, but one that i'd definitely include would be The Other Guys. michael keaton rules the roost, particularly when ferrel bursts into his office declaring, "gator needs his gat you punk ass bitch", without having done anything to earn back said gat, and keaton, too distracted on the phone with his second job at bed bath and beyond to put up an argument, just nonchalantly hands it over, may be as good as comedy gets.

Robyn

It's funny how Margaret is the only Lonergan on your lists. I didn't get that one at all. What were I missing out on?

Maybe I watched the wrong cut. I don't remember.

Lot's of things here that I need to watch! Thank you for sharing it.

jenkins

have given this "serious consideration" and have decided that i can't speak for movies that i haven't rewatched in the past five or six years, since they're not fresh in my mind and how can i really say anymore. i think The Godfather is a fantastic example of this. it seems absurd to me to not include The Godfather, but i haven't watched it recently enough to say quite how much i like it, hmm. therefore this is just a list of movies i've seen recently enough to want to include them on a list of my tops

Hah, I thought the same thing with those 2 posts.

I do recall a couple of years ago, we considered making our own guides or introductory lists so people who stumble upon this site have a good resource to use. It would be neat if we gave that a shot, maybe a top 100, encompassing the whole canon but limit it to one film per director for variety or we have a best of each decade list, or a best of horror, that sort of stuff etc
Good job with the letterboxd list.

I had started something similar, utilizing Xixax's 'Best of the Decade' threads (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s). Just completed a letterboxd list for the documentaries one. The others are private until done.

Also have a list of recommended documentaries about making movies here.

Yeah, that would be cool! How do we make that?
Maybe early David Gordon Green and Atom Egoyan would be included on that list. What else are more popular here?

I suppose informal voting via discussion in threads. There are givens that would be expected by everyone e.g Seven Samurai, 2001, Lawrence of Arabia and then we could select/veto the others (we could veto the givens if need be) by posting in a thread. We would have to determine the purpose of each least- is it best overall, best for beginners or best with reference to variety. We could even forego the givens if we wanted to make a top 100 that is distinctly characteristic of this particular forum and separates it from the dozens of near identical top 100s on the internet, which would be cool.
We could use do a one film per director, to ensure greater variety but it would make things a lot trickier- which PTA film would we pick, Chungking Express vs In the Mood For Love and so on (the answer is Chungking Express btw).

e.g
Top 100 canon
Top 100 for beginners
Top 100 Xixax specific
1/2/3 unique films per user list (could result in something really interesting)
Top 100 non-english
Top 100 1 film per director

Whatever we have the energy to do. A lot of these could be redundant. The number 100 is arbitrary.
