I thought he was an annoying young guy who would giggle a lot and use the term "wax my car" too often. I seriously did NOT like the guy when I first listened to the Boogie Nights commentary.
um....................................no.
Nope. I've been a fan ever since...oh, let's see...I think it was 1982. Or maybe 84. Yep. Ever since then.
what's not to like about him?
i think he's funny
As a person, I could never really be sure cause I don't know him, but I think he seems like a cool guy. He was just so fucking nice when I met him so I couldn't really think any different. He didn't have to be nice, he could have been a bastard but he was nice to everbody, even the annoying film snobs trying to go home with him. Before meeting him, I wasn't really sure if he was nice but yea, I still thought he was cool just judging by the BN commentary and interviews and whatnot. I thought it was cool that he was passionate and it made me feel better that he didn't seem all that deep, that reminded me of myself. He stuttered and spoke in fragments, that surprised me. And then yea, he's funny too. As a filmmaker, he always has been and always will be a god to me, plain and simple.
anybody atheist?

Well, I'm more of an agnostic than an atheist.
BUT, to paraphrase Winston Zeddmore:
"When someone asks you if PTA is a god, you say YES!" :)

I didn't say he's not good at what he does, but I don't like calling somebody a god, I just don't feel comfortable doing that. It's like he's an idol, and I don't have idols. But, I will say his name is a reccomendation for a movie.
He won't be a God until he wins an Oscar, because no good career is validated until then

Yes... Paul Thomas Anderson does not exist...
When I watched Boogie Nights i had no clue about who PTA was and (based on what i saw) I tought he was an older director just know discover by this movie...then i saw his pic with a line of him about the new years resolution not peeing in the shower anymore...first i thought he was funny and got MORE impressed with his youth+ talent.

I know you are joking but I still expect (and hope) a BIG five for one of his movies... him, Julianne, Phill...
paul sucks...that mutha fucka still owes me a drink. until then...screw him!!!

I thought so! 8)
I've liked him ever since I saw Boogie Nights for the first time. I'll have to admit that I'am not a fan of his person. Just a fan of his films.
anybody who was at the rochester screening must surely know how funny he is - a few besides me were there, i think ebeaman was, i dont remember who else. he bragged how he was shopping for cookies and shit - funny man.
you might have had to have been there, however.

Any chance to tell that story, huh? :)
it's not really a story -- but........during the Q+A someone asked what he had done since he'd been in rochester....and he said they had watched a bunch of short films, and they screened treasure of the sierra madre, and then he paused and got this big goofy grin on his face - and he said "we went out and shopped for cookies and that was really fucking fantastic!" or something along those lines.
i've always liked him. he's my favorite director. i don't know how people can not like him as a person; i've never met him of course, but he seems like such an enthusiastic person and has such a passion for what he does. at least he's not solely about the $$$, which makes people annoying to me.
btw, does that guy who runs the cigarette and coffee site post here?
i've been visiting that site for the longest time now, but i've just now got around to this place.

He used to be if I'm not mistaking.
i liked him from what i heard on the commentaries, and he was really cool when i met him.
I always thought he fuckin' cursed too fuckin' much in his fuckin' boogie nights commentary... he seemed too fuckin' strung out to be a god... maybe just a sub-god... but maybe he was on coke like dirk was... either way, he's a fucking good fuck head... fuck yeah...
The only time that PTA was not a god, was when I didn't know about him.

Of course I was there man, you know that. Lol, I'm still looking for the place they said they got the cookies from, I forget what it's called.
Did I tell you I went to the Treasure of the Sierra Madre screening? It was so cool, I sat in the seat he sat in at the screening.

hmm.
this is a tricky one
there was once a quote that said:
'straight tequila' is not a white man's drink
but who could tell
mike dee & the drinks
were doing a wonderful job covering radiohead's
'how to disappear completely'
oh yeah..they were there too...
they said mikedee had the chord changes 'a bit off'
it's Cadd9 Em Em6 (etc etc)
then G, Gsus4 Em Em6 (for the chorus)
i think his guitar was just out of tune
oh
hello
i'm new by the way.
