I'm a huge fan, although I think it's been quite a long time since he's done a really memorable score. Everything he's done lately has had their moments, but they don't have the cohesiveness and scope of his earlier stuff.

But when he's on, he's on. The early Burton stuff...man, it doesn't get much better than that! Batman and Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Edward Scissorhands are my favorites. Scores rarely get much better than those.

Oh, and The Simpsons theme, too. I wonder if he's going to put out another Music For A Darkened Theater comp?

The Batman score is my fave.
"Ernest Hemingway once wrote: 'The world's a fine place, and worth fighting for.'  I agree with the second part."
    --Morgan Freeman, Se7en

"Have you ever fucking seen that...? Ever seen a mistake in nature?  Have you ever seen an animal make a mistake?"
--Paul Schneider, All the Real Girls

i'm a fan.  i agree that lately it doesnt seem that he's done anything as memorable as his earlier stuff in a while atleast.  weird.  i thought spider-man could've used a discernable theme,  which it didnt have.  i dont see why he didnt use something he could "reprise" throughout the movie.  my dad always says that elfman "steals from himself" the way some of his scores sound a like recently.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.
