thom talks about how paul thomas anderson came to the studio with his old black and white camera to shoot a crazy, over the top music video for 'we suck young blood'.

and i doubt anybody will ever see it.

"paul thomas anderson came into the studio and he brought this camera with him, it was exactly the same camera model that they shot the nosferatu in, basically this camera is a box and you wind it, and you have to have a tempo to wind it to and if you wind it fast or slow you get this extraordinary movement, and we wanted to shoot this really over the top vaudeville b-movie thing with it, because that to me is party where it was coming from.   and also it was really sick and sexual in a really peverse way, very LA as far as I'm concerened.  I think that was the reason why we went to LA, because 'we suck young blood' was our take on hollywood really.  in fact, we went out to a party that night everyone was dressed as mad hatters, it just fit completely.  we went to this place, it was just... [whispers] you people are so silly.  and it was like that's how they dressed every day to create an impression.  it was brilliant.  we felt like old people, maybe we'd missed something."

there is a slim chance it could show up on 'the most gigantic lying mouth of all time'...

from thom:
but now you can watch it when you want, and maybe actually see it properly as well.  it contains music from hail to the thief etc., and all sorts of other stuff from us... videos you may not have seen, and unreleased music that isn't out anywhere else.

now give me my $, bitches

if you're subscribed to the WASTE mailing list, does that mean you have a WASTE username?
i wanted to order that DVD the day it was announced, but when i tried all the usernames/passwords i could think of, nothing happened. or actually, i think it asks for your e-mail address, but it didn't recognize mine.
i've also ordered tickets through them twice.
i e-mailed WASTE that day to clarify and they still haven't gotten back with me.

the dvd has a few 'look at our first versions of our new songs from our private studio' footage...full take of good morning mr magpie...fog...a sort of slide version of there there....thom does an interview session (sort of) that is priceless...bu i saw the same footage sick ick ick saw...i must give full marks to the short films though, they achieved the goal of pretentious crap to their full potential... "i bet thom will think im creative and artistic like him if i make some video that is roughly put together and makes no sense" but as for the quality footage (provided by the boys) the dvd gets full makrs.
Title: secret radiohead
Post by: Pozer on December 04, 2004, 08:49:51 PM
yeah, but there's hardly any quality footage. You take out all the crap and you got like fifteen minutes or so of the goods. I wish I didn't purchase/ancipate this DVD. I feel like the makers/hyper uppers are the most gigantic lying mouths of all time.

how long are the episodes?
if there is a lot of space left on the DVD, they should have included all of their post 7 TV Commercial music videos.
i would love to have a high quality version of Knives Out.
Title: secret radiohead
Post by: sickfins on December 05, 2004, 02:19:31 AM
i think they're standard tv length which is inbetween 20-30 minutes.  if you're looking for the gondry version of knives out, it will never appear on a dvd in the future

apparently there was some sort of creative clash on that

So, since this is a PTA thread, did anyone actually notice the film that PTA shot of Radiohead in the studio during the making of HTTT? Is it on this DVD? I've looked for it but never noticed.

Oh, and this DVD is awesome. I agree that some of the films are annoying as hell, but I can tolerate it. There's enough great content here to make it worth what I spent.

I absolutely love the Chernobyl 2 track that they play at the end of each episode. That oughta be the theme song for a Lynch film.

in my correspondences with The Man in the past, i have serious doubts any of us will ever see anything he has done, this being a perfect example.

Quote from: bonanzatazso why does the man do it if nobody is allowed to see it?

im sure lots of people saw it.
people 'inside' his little circle.

perhaps this should be the next subject of correspondence with mr paul.
i will get back to you all.

as far as gondry, sickfins had mentioned to me (and if i am incorrect, im sure he will re-correct me) was that rh and gondry were excited by initial storyboards, but was upset that gondry came to use their video to service his own personal issues that were currently happening in his life. and there was a bit of a dust-up over the whole thing.

Post by: tpfkabi on December 06, 2004, 06:48:50 PM
i remember Gondry talking about making it personal, but i never heard there was a disagreement over it.

i don't see how Radiohead could dislike it. i think it's great.
did they think it oddness prevented the single from being heard from more people?

i think that's highly unlikely.

Quote from: bigideasi never heard there was a disagreement over it.

i did

"I generally find a good way of communicating to prevent clash, but I had one terrible experience with Radiohead," he says of his 2001 video for "Knives Out." Gondry, going through a breakup at the time, transferred his despair to a character played by lead singer Thom Yorke, grieving anxiously in a crowded hospital room.

"I showed him a storyboard and every single detail: he was completely excited and happy for it - and then, it turned out, they all criticize me for being selfish and putting my own views on it and my own introspection," says a still peeved Gondry. (Yorke and Radiohead declined to comment for this story.) "And they didn't let me use my video for my DVD!" he adds, his voice rising.

"And I'm really mad at them for having done that to me, that they abuse their power! It did not go smooth, but if it went smooth, it would be mediocre."

Quote from: bigideasi think that's highly unlikely.

sounds like you're highly unlikely

Post by: tpfkabi on December 09, 2004, 06:55:29 AM
i didn't mean your story was highly unlikely. i meant that they blamed Gondry's video for Knives Out not being a hit. i love the song and the video, but it would blow my mind if a song like that made any kind of radio waves even if it had a video with half naked women.
that's a shame they wouldn't let him use it. it's one of my favorite videos.
