I was just thinking about it, there are some actors I don't paticularly like, but they have appeared in some great movies and really delievered....
Such as...
Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love
Tom Cruise in Magnolia
George Clooney in O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Mark Whalberg in Boogie Nights
Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs
Totally agree with all those.
Renee Zellweger in Cold Mountain
Richard Gere in Chicago
Hugh Grant in About a Boy
Kim Basinger, L.A. Confidential
Sharon Stone, Casino
Demi Moore, Deconstructing Harry
cuba gooding jr - boyz n the hood. (before almost ruining jerry mag and as good as it g)
I've got lots of these.
Jim Carrey - Man on the Moon
Werner Herzog - Julien Donkey Boy
Hilary Swank - Boys Don't Cry
Kevin Costner - 3000 Miles to Graceland

What about Nurse Betty?

Well agreed on both of those. Too bad about Barrymore- seems there couldn't be a nicer, more charming person. She just can't act.
i like drew in wedding singer and boys on the side and confessions of a dangerous mind. and i like andie in groundhog's day. so there.
how about, kevin costner in a perfect world.

Russel Crowe. L.A. confidential
Benicio Del Toro - Traffic
Jim Carrey - Truman Show
Mark Wahlberg - Boogie Nights (3 Kings wasn't that bad either)
Rene Zellweger - Chicago

Charlton Heston - Planet of the Apes (His performance is bad but also great...)
Quote from: Sigur RósRussel Crowe. L.A. confidential
Benicio Del Toro - Traffic
Jim Carrey - Truman Show
Benicio is great in Usual Suspects and 21 Grams. I really agree with Russel Crowe though, Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind and Master and Commander aren't too great, though The Insider was great.
Jim Carrey, I have to say I love Dumb and Dumber, and I have a feeling Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will be great.

What about Royal Tenenbaums, Se7en, and Talented Mr. Ripley?
Quote from: Gamblor du JourWhat about Royal Tenenbaums, Se7en, and Talented Mr. Ripley?
Nothing special any other actress couldn't do, and better. The way she cries during the diner scene with Freeman in "Seven" always bugged me.
Lambert Wilson - The Matrix Revolutions

I dunno about Royal Tenenbaums, she seemed pretty perfect for that role, I'm not sure many could have played it as well. As for seven, for some reason, I remember the diner scene as a good part of the film, I'll watch it again to see what you're talking about.

Uhhh, have you seen "The Hunted"...he is laughably horrible in it. It's fun as hell to watch and make fun of though cause it's so bad, you should rent it. I won't spoil anything for you in case you haven't seen it but he does something near the end of the movie that is so out of left field and so so so wrong for his character that it had me and my cousin literally with tears laughing on the floor, it was the funniest, dumbest thing I've ever seen, it seriously could have been a deleted scene from "Dumb and Dumber", really though, it's the fucking funniest non-comedy I've ever seen.
Burt Reynolds - "Boogie Nights" (I can't believe I think I'm the first to mention this)
Ben Affleck - "Dazed and Confused"
Richard Gere - "Days of Heaven"
Ethan Hawke - "Before Sunrise"
Russell Crowe - "LA Confidential"
Kevin Costner - "JFK" and "A Perfect World"
Jennifer Lopez - "Out of Sight"
Brendan Fraser - "Encino Man"
Jennifer Aniston - "The Good Girl"
Wesley Snipes - "Jungle Fever"
Julia Roberts - "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind"
Laura Linney - "You Can Count on Me"
Then yea, I'll agree with Basinger/LA Confidential and Sharon Stone/Casino too, they definitely surprised me.

agree completely with affleck. however, crowe has given some awesome performances in the insider and virtuosity...and he has a certain rogueish charm to gladiator and a beautiful mind...without him those movies would have been nothing, and any good qualities thy have i'd attribute to his star power and acting ability...
as for brendan fraser, i love his work in Bedazzled and Gods and Monsters. For me, the former is a touching comic performance that uncovers a lot about social anxiety and is pretty virtuoistic in its portrayal of different personalities and people...and gods and monsters portrays a keen insight into frustrated male heterosexuality...also, school ties is a touching, shouldabeen-starmaking role that i think fraser handled charmingly...
laura linney, i feel, is an excellent actress...she was riveting in primal fear, and her scenes in truman show were hilariously dark...
if you don't like these actors, you don't like em. that's fine...just my 2 cents.
Reese Witherspoon -- Election
Jane Fonda -- China Syndrome
Tim Robbins -- Shawshank Redemption & Hudsucky Proxy

I really liked the movie. Quickly: Why was it bad? What was the thing at the end so "out of left field"? How is Benicio bad, or are you picking on the movie in general? You went too far on negativity here to just let your opinion slide without explaining yourself.
Quote from: ebeamanKevin Costner - "JFK" and "A Perfect World"
This is why I hate these threads. Its a bold statement for someone to say Costner was only good in two movies but yet these threads do it all the time for everything. This forum gets worst all the time because of these threads carrying over to other threads.
Viggo Mortensen - LOTR (yep, I couldn't fucking stand this guy, and now, because of the trilogy, he's one of my favorite actors -- though his next few movies will show if he stays on the list or not)
Agreed about Sharon Stone (Casino).
Oh, and Winona was great in Celebrity, and fucking amazing in Age Of Innocence (but I pretty much like to see her in anything).
Alec Baldwin-..the Cooler....
Goldie Hawn in Shampoo
Robin Williams in One Hour Photo
Kevin Costner in A Perfect World and Wyatt Earp
Drew Barrymore in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Ben Affleck in Dazed and Confused
Harrison Ford in American Graffiti and The Conversation
Tom Hanks in Philadelphia
Tom Cruise in Magnolia
Sylvester Stallone in Rocky
Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction
Might've been said, but Michael Douglas in Wonder Boys. And Tobey Maguire too.
keanu reeves, but in replacements he rocks...oh yea..you all wanted to say it first
jared leto - requiem
jen jason leigh - hudsucker
