The Deuce follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York's Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry.

Created by David Simon (The Wire)
Premieres September 10, 2017 on HBO

So? (I haven't watched it yet)

I have nothing clever to say about it. It was well directed. The seventies come back to life on screen. It also bored me.

Sounds like everything David Simon has done post-Wire. "It's really good. Just wish I liked it."

It's just one episode in, but I liked the pilot.
There are moments that definitely feel like the Wire, but I thought the Wire was boring the first couple of episodes.

Really enjoyed the Maggie Gyllenhaal bits. Gonna stick with it, because David Simon likes to take his time and two James Francoz is quite generous.

Anyone else stick around for this? I really like it.
It really should have been someone not James Franco, but I get that they probably needed a big name to get the budget.
It's worth watching for it's recreation of the scuzzy 70s alone, but it's also finally all coming together in a way similar to the Wire.

For some reason, I found this series less engaging than I thought it would be over the last couple of seasons--but I felt ALL of the finale tonight.

Spoiler: ShowHide
I don't think the Franco-in-old-age-makeup completely worked, but I felt his complex nostalgia completely.   I kept pausing the playback because I didn't want it to end.

There's something with Simon shows that particularly bore me. Season 4 of The Wire is great and season 3 is very good, but despite all of the intelligence I find most of the show tiresome. I tried Treme. Twice. I didn't watch beyond the pilot of The Deuce. (Franco doesn't help.)
