NIN on Sat.
mogwai on Tues.
Tricky on Sept. 12
Beck/Spoon on Sept. 20

you'll be deaf after the second show. :yabbse-wink:

No shit! You weren't kidding. Mogwai had my ears ringing at least three times more than NIN did. NIN was excellent. Hadn't seen them in a loooong time. Heavy on the Teeth/Zero/Slip albums; not much love for Fragile, but the Machine/Broken/Spiral songs were the showstoppers. The lights & screens displays were amazing to watch. Truly made the concert feel interactive. Trent's comment on the election: During Hand That Feeds, had a photo of Bush slowly morph into McCain.

My first time seeing Mogwai, and they were incredible. The Wiltern is a relatively small, intimate venue, so I had a great spot. It also meant that I was in the middle of and, thus, blasted by, all the speakers. But Batcat sounded so fucking good live. Had a great crowd of fans, and they played a great set. I was also impressed with Fuck Buttons. They were fascinating to watch.

Yeah I saw Frank Black a couple weeks ago and it was pretty sweet.  First time I ever saw a legend perform with nothing but a guitar.  very intimate and very good.

I recorded a taste:

Fuck... even captured in a minute long cell phone clip, that performance sent a little chill down my spine.

I saw him with full band, performing only the last two Black Francis albums. The band was tight and FB was a total professional. No pandering, no filler, no nonsense... just an hour and a half of loud, fast rock and roll. No Pixies songs, though, you lucky duck.

Just saw Built To SPill do Perfect From Now On. Real good stuff. And I was just reading about Neil Young's band on this tour... should be a fine show. MBV and Malkmus ain't too shabby either, of course.

October and November is always a real good stretch for shows. I've got The Hold Steady/Drive-By Truckers, Randy Newman, RObyn Hitchcock performing I Often Dream of Trains, and whatever Neil Young's Bridge School lineup is to look forward to.

Also the best free festival to look forward to all year: http://www.strictlybluegrass.com/

Maybe every day is Saturday morning.

Ratatat was the tits last night. I'm still insanely hung over and barely functioning at work but I thought I'd pass that along. Hopefully Stefen dislikes them so he will keep his anger to a minimum.

Bad fuckin ass man. Do you remember a set list? I remember seeing them sans bass player. The three of them really pulled it off though.

I'm terrible at remembering set lists and it doesn't get any better when you've been drinking. I do remember The Hollows giving me goosebumps like I never thought possible.

Now for some pictures from Ratatat(which I did attend) and Mogwai/Fuck Buttons(I ended up not going to this show but since I bought tickets the venue still sent me these photos.) I am still very very pissed about not seeing Mogwai but if you feel the need to make me feel worse, please go right ahead.

I heard the Mogwai show was pretty much the greatest concert that has ever happened. My friend who went said he has no desire to ever see a show again because it will never be topped.

Too bad you didn't go.

oh man, sorry if i pour salt in thee wound but here's what mogwai felt about the gig:

"we arrive in dallas to the natural symphony of hot storm rain on our pale island skin. the hurricane is flirting with us but isn't really up for going all the way. we find out that one of the guys who works here as crew was there when dimebag darrell from pantera was shot dead at a concert in ohio. indeed this guy we met was shot 4 times in the leg too but survived. a legend no less. the theatre we play is old and has just been bought over a year ago by new folk who are extremely nice, good luck to them. i hear it was a porn cinema for 3 months too, by the way. we go and get some breakfast at what is supposed to be a legendary burger joint where i opt for coffee (which comes tepid) instead of the "cheeseburger salad" (???) and the rest of the boys get stuff they don't like either, all served lukewarm. so i get dropped off at the hotel and i'm told i can go for a swim there so i get my trunks on and walk down to the "pool". it's shaped like a brand new avant garde letter of the alphabet and is thus completely useless for swimming in so i mope back up to the room, get washed and wait until i can get a lift back to the venue. we soundcheck and do the usual stroke inducing boring wait for the show to begin. i am having trouble remembering if this was a good gig or not.....did someone stagedive? i think they might have (i write this stuff a good few days after the event and my memory has more holes in it than cummings' and braithwaite's jeans combined). so, the wind picks up a little and we get on our merry way to the wonderment of atlanta, georgia. it's a long drive but patrick bane, our super-driver will get us into atlanta by 2 or 3 pm tomorrow."

don't worry though, i'm sort of sure they will return to your area next year. if not, please don't shoot me because my body aches after two hours paintball session last night.

edit:

here's the show uploaded at archive.org which i haven't heard yet:

It won't be the same hearing it on a crappy audience recording as it would have been to see it live. Not even close to as good.
