Medved excoriates Scorsese

On Friday night on EWTN, right-wing extremist Michael Medved slammed Martin Scorsese because Scorsese doesn't make popular, high grossing films.  Medved cited Narnia as the best that Hollywood had to offer in 2005, because it made 400 million domestic.  He complained that nobody talks about the director of Narnia, but everyone knows who Martin Scorsese is, even though his films don't make money.

And to think, for 30 years, I thought Martin Scorsese was a great director.  Now I realize, looking at the box office receipts of his films, that he doesn't appeal to a wide mainstream audience.  I guess he's not the auteur he's reputed to be.

Medved likens popular appeal with quality.  After all, the more people that like something, the better it must be, right?  Well, porno films are quite popular.  That means that porno films should be nominated for Oscars, because Oscars should reflect populist, not elitist, taste.

I'm not sure what EWTN is but this guy used to be on 20/20 and get away with the most one-sided ignorant crap I've ever seen.  I sincerely have no idea how he still has a job.
