Well, I lost hope at the Oscars, looked to Xixax for redemption, and then was trampled again.

Really?  No love for Persepolis?

there was love.  it was nominated.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.
