I'm going to lay down a monster hand here.

I don't see much difference between this board and the old in way of annoyance to the talk of movies. It was common thing for a discussion to turn left and head into a talk worthy of Peace Out or some chat. It always happens and as people complain about this hear, they only prove that example. So what if a couple of kids are making dumb threads, that still is a small percentage of threads compared to all the rest. I've been sifting through random talk I could never really post to at all for both boards and don't mind. Just the way forums are.

And back to Adaptation, I look forward to the super bit dvd.  I want to see this movie again to prove my assumption of this film, which is the movie is a mere remake of 8 1/2 and instead of forwarding that idea to anything beyond the general talk of art v. commercialism in movies, it only shows its worth in a cute trick of ending on a purely commercialised note. Instead of this being a lasting effect that can only grow, it is an easy thing to spot and comes down to finding when the shift happened. Adaptation acts as a movie that thinks it is already clever enough with it happens so idles around and shows off what it thinks it has.

i agree with the 8 1/2 revision -- thats what popped into my mind when viewing it the first time -- nevertheless, what isnt a revision these days? to make an obvious reference: magnolia is esentially short cuts -- boogie nights is goodfellas in the porn industry -- does this take anything away from them? -- NO... i dont think its fair to disregard a film, because it's roots aren't 100% pure. i dont believe ive seen a film in the last 20 years that has been a truly original story -- to tune out a film at the first stench of unoriginality is being closed minded. when it comes down to it: yes, adaption owes some of its magic to older films. however,  in no way does it  take away from the magic it creates on its own. if you can tell me that those characters weren't alive, id have to say YOU are the one that's dead.

What the fuck?

Okay, you don't like this film so you can't wait to see it again so you can prove to yourself that this theory that you've built up is right?

1: If you go in wanting to prove to yourself that it's not a good film, then there is no way you'll enjoy it.  So... What the fuck?

2: If you already don't like it, why the fuck are you wasting your time on it again... so you can come here and bad mouth it with more reason you've chalked up on your "I'm right" point list?.. use those two hours to see a movie you haven't seen... or better yet, one you like.... what the fuck?

I agree with RK, you cant go into a movie already bitter about something and just watching it so you can prove to yourself its unoriginal. That way you are just looking for flaws, and thats all you get. Adaptation is great

Gold Trumpet

Thing is, I've already seen it and made the analysis it is a bad film. I went into the movie thinking it would be one of the best of the year and on the immediate after math of seeing it, I did love it. Then I continually thought about it and figured it to be one of those movies that excite on first viewing because its really clever and then grows old as the main thing to it was just identifying how it was clever. See, I've already identified the movie for what it is and will see it again to see if that feeling has grown or stayed the same. But for the sanity of the people here, I will say that I could have said my feelings better in my previous post. And to number 2 RK, its none of your business. I've always promoted disagreeance with what I say and reasons why. I don't mind if people think I hate all movies, because it is farthest from the truth. All in the name of forwarding discussion.

and also, thanks BonBon.
