Julia Roberts Circling Charlie Wilson's War
Source: Variety January 11, 2006

In what would be her first onscreen role since 2004's Ocean's Twelve, Julia RobertsJulia Roberts is circling Universal Pictures' Charlie Wilson's War.

Variety says Roberts is in early talks to board the project with her Closer director Mike Nichols. She would star with Tom Hanks, who is producing the film with Playtone partner Gary Goetzman.

Hanks declared last year that he'd play Charlie Wilson, the rogue Texas congressman who oversaw the covert funding of the Afghan rebels in their battle against the Soviet Union.

Roberts is in talks to play Joanne Herring, a big-haired and beautiful Texas socialite who influenced Wilson to support the rebel cause.

Based on the book by 60 Minutes producer George Crile, the film was written by Aaron Sorkin. Production will begin later this year.
Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

A New DANIEL in Julia Roberts' Life
No she's not leaving husband Danny Moder, but Julia Roberts is negotiating to star in the Fox 2000 drama Daniel Isn't Talking.

Since becoming a mom to twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, Julia Roberts has been spending very little time on the big screen. Now, Daily Variety is reporting that Roberts, who recently signed to star for her Closer director Mike Nichols in Charlie Wilson's War, is negotiating a lead role in Fox 2000's adaptation of Marti Leimbach's Daniel Isn't Talking, with Karen Rosenfelt producing.

Stephen Chbosky, who recently adapted the Tony-winning musical Rent for the big screen, is doing the adaptation of Daniel, which centers on a London couple and their two children. All of their lives are thrown into turmoil, however, when the son is diagnosed with autism.

Roberts is familiar with Leimbach's work. Back in 1991 she starred with Campbell Scott and Vincent D'Onofrio in Dying Young. She's also become passionate about autism as she recently picked up the film rights to Eye Contact, Cammie McGovern's novel about a mother and her autistic son.

Going on maternity leave has left the CAA-repped Roberts little time for movie work. She has, however, been lending her voice to animated features including the upcoming Charlotte's Web adaptation and Ant Bully, produced by Tom Hanks, who will co-star with her in Charlie Wilson's War. Besides Closer, Roberts' last big screen appearance was in the ensemble sequel Ocean's Twelve.

Roberts, Owen reteam for 'Duplicity'
Duo set to star in Universal drama
Source: Variety

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen are set to star in "Duplicity," a Universal Pictures drama that was written and will be directed by Tony Gilroy. Jennifer Fox is producing with Laura Bickford.

Roberts and Owen are re-teaming after pairing in the Mike Nichols-directed "Closer," in which they played a married couple that clashed over her infidelity.

"Duplicity" offers the chance for the same kind of sparks in a caper pic set in the world of big business. They play longtime lovers who happened to work as spies on opposite sides. They team up to stage an elaborate con to rip off corporations and steal a valuable product.

The film will begin production in March, and is Gilroy's second directing effort following the George Clooney-starrer "Michael Clayton." Gilroy previously wrote three "Bourne Identity" films for Universal.

Roberts will next be seen starring with Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the Nichols-directed "Charlie Wilson's War." Owen, who just opened in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," takes the job after starring in the Tom Tykwer-directed "The International."

Bickford is producing "Guerilla" and "The Argentine," back-to-back films on Che Guevara that are being directed by Steven Soderbergh and star Benicio Del Toro.

Can you believe we don't have an "Eat Pray Love" thread???

The nachos part was my fave. I actually went and saw Eat, Pray, Love just to see if Julia Roberts ate corn chips in it.

It was alright. That one romantic comedy Mike Cera starred in earlier this summer was better.
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

I loved how the tagline takes on a new, much more awesome meaning in the Ratner version.
