Title: Jack Johnson
Post by: aclockworkjj on June 16, 2003, 09:03:03 PM
ANyone else into him?  I must say, I am kinda disappointed to see him get so much airtime....but overall I think he is pretty good if in the mood.  What I dig is the fact he is also a filmmaker...

I heard a lot of hype about him from friends and whatnot.  I go out, buy his CD and I have to say I'm pretty dissapointed.  I mean, he's ok but he doesn't live up to all the praise he's received.

I love this guy! His first album was the best. The songs Inaudible Melodies, Bubble Toes and Flake are amazing. I don't get the hype-thing, because he isn't even released in Europe. My brother bought his cd in The US last year, and I've grown a big fan ever since. It's good to hear some happy music for once!  :-D

You know that one song? The "I know... she knows.... I know... she knows.." rambling on song? The one that makes no sense? Where he starts singing "La da da da da da... la da da DA da da da..."? I hate that song! I hate that song with all my soul!

Maybe you should stick to Elton

I liked some of his first album, so I bought his second when it came out.  Not bad as background music, but he has a definite problem of all his songs sounding too much alike.  And any time he tries to sing about something (politics specifically), he comes across as pedantic.  I still think "Flake" is a fantastic song, though.

I wouldn't disagree...but Jack used to put on a good show....often breaking out into little medley jams in the middle of a song....but just like Dave...he will soon realize that 75% of the people there to see him....are really only wanting to hear that "one song they are playing on the radio"....

so sad what money makes us do....

I saw him live with Be Harper last night.  He sounds very good live, and managed to hold the crowd pretty well for a more laid back, "bar room type" feel to most of his songs.  Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals are fucking amazing...and stole the show with a blink of their eyes.

Jack is more suited for a small, personal, almost bar room show....he is not a stadium type act, nor will he ever be.....
Title: Jack Johnson is a sell out

I don't know if anyone is aware of the hypocracy that is taking place on Jack's tour. The guy obviously has an ego the size of Mussilini. He is playing a small venue here in PHX in which all his tickets sold out six months before his show in one hour, and the best part, all to ticket brokers. The tic's are goping for around $200, ABSOLUTELY OBSURD!!!!!! I have always been a fan, but this made me rethink. What a sell out. So, I did some research and found that this is the case in most of the city's on his tour. Over half of the schedualed dates are already sold out to brokers charging redicculous prices. What happened to music. FYI when an artist books a tour they sign a contract regarding the way their tickets are sold and distributed. And Furthur more Tickets Master doesn't even appear to have ever even had tickets, but it's advertised to buy tickets from Ticket Master, something fischy is going on. I mean seriously $200 to see JJ, let's get real, what ever happened to it being about the music. John Lennon would be turning in his grave!!!! :elitist:  :elitist:  :elitist:

"The truth is, I thought it mattered.  I thought the music mattered.  But does it?  Bollocks!  Not compared to how people matter."

And seriously, I'd only pay 200 bucks to see a concert if Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn both rose from the dead and held a "Crossroads"-style guitar duel at the Gorge.  Absolutely obsurd indeed.
