Russians.

The Express Lanes bowling alley is 10-minutes away.
They have a full bar as well. People are planning to
meet there at 8pm on Saturday.

I gotta say, the midnight screening tonight was a big disappointment.  Instead of being able to share one of my favorite movies with someone who had never seen it before, on the big screen no less, I had to apologize for the audience that ruined the film by reciting lines and trying to crack Rocky Horror style jokes throughout.  

The admiration and enthusiasm for the movie is great, and the fact that it got a screening here so many years after its theatrical run is great.  But the film is funny because of its silence, because of its deadpan, and because of the absurdity of the characters and the story that it relates with such perfect 'dudesque' nonchalance.  People trying to demonstrate that they knew all the funny lines took away any of the humor the film had and turn the screening into a sad attempt at a more highbrow Rocky Horror, whatever THAT might mean?  The audience participation schtick works with movies like Rocky Horror and the MST3K series because the films being spoken over and ridiculed are in themselves bad, and not intentionally funny.  The Big Lebowski is a great, funny, and even touching film that was ruined tonight by frathouse antics and the loud voices of a few who couldn't seem to leave a great film well enough alone.

The only times I found myself laughing were during the scenes when the participatory audience members were at a loss for words--unforunately, all the scenes with Jesus and the Nihilists were completely washed out.  Next time, grab a popcorn and a coke and sit back and remember why you liked the film in the first place--you liked it without YOU in it, so please leave it that way. :x

You should have come to the Sunday night screening downstairs in the bigger theater.  It was well attended, but people were a LOT more subdued.  Probably because the bigger space felt more like a theater and less like a living room with a big screen TV.

As someone who helped with the grass-roots effort to make this happen, I can assure you there were no deliberate bad intentions on anyone's part.  My apologies if you had a bad time.

plus, who hasnt seen the big lebowski?  perhaps its their own cosmic punishment that they had six years to see it and missed all those opportunities that they had to sit through a rocky horror style screening?

Well, i was going simply by the fact that driving by the plaza, it said The Big Lebowski on the marquee.  The fliers on the doors mentioned costumes and trivia, but not specifically yelling.

I don't think people who havent' seen the film should be punished for trying to support a midnight screening by having the film spoiled.  All in all, I applaud the effort to bring the film to Atlanta so many years after its release, but I really think you picked the wrong movie to Rocky-Horrorize.  I've heard of people doing a similar thing with Showgirls, which makes sense to me as it was a pitiful movie, but the whole situation reminded me quite a bit of a dry, funny line from the movie Mr. Baseball.

Tom Selleck is tapping his fingers on the dashboard of a car to the beat of the music playing and his stoic Japanese escort astutely points out "the drummer is doing fine by himself"... or something like that.

Here's a question: Why is The Big Lebowski such a cult hit?  I saw it finally a while back and I enjoyed it, but it didn't become one of my favorite films.  One person I talked to said it was his favorite Coen brothers film.  What?

I've seen it twice now.  After the first time I saw it, I bought it later on on DVD.  I can honestly say it's probably the funniest movie I've ever seen.  There's just something about it you can't really explain.  Every second of the film, there's something happening that's inspired.  From the opening narration, to the Dude writing a check for $.69 in the grocery store (blink and you'll miss it), to the character of Walter, to Dude's delivery of his lines ("you obviously aren't a golfer"), and his rambles, and just the dialogue in general.  Plus, there's Julianne Moore in one of her greatest roles.  Some inspired fantasy sequences including Saddam Hussein as a bowling alley attendant ("I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in...").  Comedy is really subjective, so it's really hard to convince someone who doesn't agree why it's a great film.  But there's what I think.
