Wow, not a bad bunch of films recommended so far. I plan on watching Battle of Algiers and Paper Moon this week. The Idiots is a little difficult to get a hold of, but I'll try.

Herzog is a consistently interesting filmmaker and this is, perhaps, his masterpiece.
The Band Wagon (Vincente Minnelli, 1953)
One of my favorite screen musicals with my all-time favorite finale (at the Dem Bones Cafe). Simply incredible.
Don't Look Now (Nicolas Roeg, 1973)
Walkabout may be more groundbreaking, but I'd rather stick this one in and enjoy it on a rainy day.
Grand Illusion[/b] (Jean Renoir, 1937)
A complex and powerful examination of freedom, class differences, honor and compassion
My Darling Clementine (John Ford, 1946)
Some of Henry Fonda's best work was done in collaboration with John Ford. This film gets lost somewhere in-between Stagecoach and The Searchers; what those films achieve in raw spectacle, this film achieves with quiet grandeur.

i don't think this thread is being used properly.
it's JUST for telling ppl movies u think deserve a look, or may be overlooked. not for everyone to rally behind one movie. do u even HAVE a favourite herzog seeing as how u don't care which one makes it on the list as long as it's directed by him? in that case ppl would campaign for ONE kubrick film, and ONE spielberg, and ONE scorsese.. thus creating the most boring fucking dekapenticon imaginable.
ppl vote for whatever u want, if u want to discuss the damn subtleties go to the appropriate thread like cine said at the beginning. keep it a SHORT LIST. if u go like 10 or whatever u might as well say "hey everyone here's exactly what i voted for". that's not the point of this thread. jesus christ.

Actually, Stroszeck IS my fav Herzog, and I noticed that someone posted a pic of it, so it seems like a good movie to rally behind, seeing as how most of his best (+ Aguirre, Kasper, Heart Of Glass) are so close.

it's funny, apart from ur first few weeks here i don't think u've noticed i'm the biggest defender u hav on the board. i like most of the same stuff as u with some major exceptions (me and u and everyone we know, korine).
