So, I was thinking, you admins and mods and other forms of authority take upon yourselves, for reasons unknown to me, to host awards stuff for the Oscars every year (or rather Xixax awards). I'm incredibly grateful that you accept that burden so that we as a board can immediately thereafter launch into tirades about how incredibly wrong each outcome is or pat each other on the back and say "Yeah, we can all seem to agree on Best Supporting Actress."
Well, now I'd like to give back to you guys. And the rest of you guys. And girls.
I'd like to try to help organize a Xixax Mixtape Exchange. Now, as I post this, this is all preliminary. Nothing is official, I'm just testing the waters to see if you guys actually want to have some fun with this.
In fact, I'm not even sure what I could do to organize things. But I'd accept that responsibility. I figure I could organize who would trade with who, we could do a new one each month, or something, maybe use rapidshare, etc.
What does everyone/anyone think?
-----------------------------------------------
CURRENT/TENTATIVE RULES (to efficiently participate, follow these guidelines):
1. Must be uploaded as a .rar or .zip.
These are easiest to open.
2. Songs must be organized by number as you wish for them to appear on your mixtape.
Order is key.
3. This first post will be updated with the theme of each month's mixtape.
Themes will be decided on Xixax posters -- just like you!
i'm in!
i love mixtapes ever since i was little.
i think a good way to make this work would be to pick a topic each week or whenever we're bored and you just contribute when you feel like it, the same way it works in the caption thread or those other threads where there's no need to schedule things.
rules:
the mixtape must be uploaded as a rar or zip file and be organized as such, meaning that the title of the album will be the same for each of the songs and they will have a numerical order.
i'd suggest a topic for a playlist right now but i'm too tired.
how about the soundtrack to some movie that doesn't exist. like a pt sci fi or something, but more specific.
Don't you guys have spotify in your country?
i'd be down as well

anyway, i think this sounds like a great idea! i'm down for it.
yeah i'm against spotify as well because you can't carry around that music. nothing like good old mp3s wherever you go.
my suggestions for the first mixtape:
- a one hour mixtape for making excercise that consists only of rock songs.
- music to drink wine and eat cheese to.
i love picolas' idea, though.
Let's do this. I'm always game for mixtapes.
Some suggestions:
-Boogie Nights Vol. 3
-Music In Plainview (Jams for Daniel's iPod Touch)
-Big Ass Boombox (old school hip-hop)
-Beach Kindlin' (songs to go with beach reading)

I made a mixtape for a girl once. I ended it with Carissa's Wierd - Sofisticated Fuck Princess Please Leave Me Alone.
The fucking cunt.
there's no better way to win a woman's heart than an epic mixtape, because if she's not into that, then she's not your type and you have to go looking somewhere else.
so when's the deadline?
All right, then. Everybody make the most epic mixtape that you would give to a girl you wanted to have intimate relations with. You have one week.
it always depends on the girl, but okay. I'M GAME, MUHFUGGAS!
i've made a million of these. it's my hobby.
Ok, so, as a point of reference, I can keep the main post updated with the number of confirmed participants if you wanna do the exchanges.
Now, do you guys want me to pair everyone up randomly and to send mixtapes to each other via rapidshare, or are we just going to post playlists in this thread? I figured if we do this monthly, then we'd all rotate now and then and you know, share the music. But otherwise, I don't mind just posting lists. Xixax and lists are like turtles and shells.

I like the nature of time vs. space mostly because higher quality songs take up more data.
in this day and age whoever's below 192 knows shit.
Wait, knows shit as in "is in the know" or knows shit as in "keen exclusively to outdated formats"?
wow , i drunk-posted the shit out of that observation. sorry. i meant that below 192 is bad.

you could create a playlist and rearrange them in there. or give them an album name then change the track number in the get info (command I).

Depends on the OS. On a Mac, open a finder window and click the button to show items in columns. Then open iTunes and click that far left column so it's in ascending order. Now when you highlight the tracks you want to drop in that finder window, they should drop in in the proper order.
B.M.'s list also suggests something (beyond breaking one of the only rules):
Should one be allowed to contain a mixtape with more than one song per artist? I've always enjoyed mixtapes that represent a total variety rather than wallowing around in their own immediate sound.

remove the olivia tremor control and neon indian reprises (tracks 18 & 20)
(i consider them interludes as opposed to songs, given they are both under a minute in length)
now replace "calling it quits" with ms. mann's "stranger into starman (http://www.zshare.net/download/78326217df4cf5fd/)"
that should put me back within regulation at 79.21 minutes with no artist repeats

I've downloaded everybody's playlists so far, but haven't had a chance to listen to any of them yet. Looking forward to it, though!
I've been really liking Cinemanarkissed's compilation. Lots of new stuff I'd never heard of before, and a pleasingly consistent vibe (a virtue I've completely avoided in my own, despite nominal thematic coherence). Particularly enjoying Toro Y Moi, Delorean and Tanlines; and to find Newsom sampled in The Roots was a pleasant surprise!
Am now downloading the others, though Picolas' link seems to be broken...

Cheers...

Organize your files. Most importantly (picolas, I'm looking at you) simply put the track number at the beginning so it plays properly. Just edit them accordingly and put them all in a folder. Then make that folder a zip folder. Then go to a site like www.rapidshare.com or www.megaupload.com (there are a myriad of others as well, but these work pretty user friendly), upload it and post your link.
And if you're feeling creative, make a graphic like some of the other fine mixtapes have.
Then download other peoples' and enjoy.
And maybe in another month or so, we can all pick a new theme and play again!

We can't make summer mix tapes if we don't get any sun.

* - note: track 9 is titled "LICK the Pavement," not "LIKE the Pavement". Carry on.
okay so it's officially music for a funeral where you crashed a thing?
Or else I just made the worst break-up mix ever.
The way I'm sort of interpreting it:
Funeral mix for your epic yet tragic wake
great mix! except for the title.
i would like it much more if it was called:
Off of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of ofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofofoffffffffffffffffffff
at least it works in context.. i can imagine this is the mixtape for someone whose disregard for his general safety was only matched by his disregard for proper use of words.
The title is a quote; the "of" was already included. The rocks come with the farm, as they say.
Keep singin, bitch, when I get done with you, you won't have a face!
So has everyone else given up on this, or...?
Honestly this challenge was pretty lame once I started trying to make the list. I don't expect to die in epic circumstances, nor do I listen to music that facilitates that.
I mostly just get my heart broken and break hearts. Let's go back to that.
Awww...
...sheeeit.

Neat imagination and quite an outgoing personality. My life only consists of girls!
I ain't hard to get.
i created this theme, and had some good idea's for a mix, but the twist that was added i'm not a fan of... so i'm gonna pass.
go back to your whiny, crybaby, sad, chick music.
Ugh, you people are all taking the "theme" way too literally. Just make a badass rock mix and share it already!

So i imagine this mix won't be for everyone. There's a lot of instrumental-type stuff on here but also some pretty catchy pop stuff. Some might find it repetitive but its the kinda shit that I've been diggin on these days.
Most of the songs are from 2010 and 2011. I know its probably too big to fit on a CD-R but if you like some of it i guess you can pick an choose.
and there seems to be a Teen/Wave/Water/Blood Vibe goin on....whatevs...
Enjoy these jams that have gotten me through the past three weeks of 100+ degree heat roun these parts.
Yay, mixtapes! Thanks for bumping. This was a thread that died tragically young. I'll give yours a listen, and try and whip up a list of my own summer jams over the weekend.

"Vanessa" - Grimes
The rest of your mix is pretty solid, but this song in particular is one of my favorite Grimes tracks.

All right, then. Everybody make the most epic mixtape that you would give to a girl you wanted to have intimate relations with. You have one week.

Proposed new assignment:
Mix tape for after the girl from the first mix tape dumps you.
I did a mix of those. But... yeah, don't know how to upload the shit. So it was kind of pointless.
Here it is anyway:

I find the Spotify subscription WELL worth the money. Saves a lot of room on my phone too.
