Tip # 2:

If you read page 8 of "I just saw Hard 8 for the 1st time"
And then come back here,
Then the joke will be even funnier..!!

A few quick tidbits:

He hasn't seen Crash.
He hates parrots.
Someone asked about the frogs.
He likes Five Corners.

Other tidbits:
Somebody pulled the PA-on-his-next-movie stunt and it seemed to work.
PTA tollerates excruiatingly bad questions and comments very well.
Everybody feels the need to give their biography prior to asking their question.
It was a really nice and surprisingly intimate setting.  Not a huge room and I was pretty close.

Overall:
There were a lot of fun moments, and I could listen to him talk forever, but due to the difficulty of coming up with questions that he hasn't already answered in previous interviews, there wasn't a huge amount of new insight (except for when he relayed his experiences hanging out with Altman, including right before and after Oscar night).  A fantastic night, though, and a fantastic guy.

Yeah, somebody said that Crash was very similar to Magnolia and PTA made a comment about how similar Magnolia is to Short Cuts.  Then he asked the audience what they thought of Crash.  From where I was sitting, it sounded like more dislike than like, but there were some people around who cheered for Crash.  Then PTA said something like "It divides people." which produced a lot of laughter.

Quote from: Lucid on March 10, 2006, 02:12:35 AMhe spent last night watching "Open Nightly" - a highly recommended porn title.

There you go. Another PTA Recommends title; alongside Singin' In The Rain and Putney Swope.

I'm sorry, but I don't think any of us took notes or anything, so we can only remember in bits and pieces as they come to us.

The other thing I remember is that in addition to Daniel Day-Lewis (with whom Paul said he'd like to work with again and again forever), There Will Be Blood will also feature Kevin J. O'Connor.  Other than that, it's a small cast with no one that anyone has heard of, he said.  So it doesn't look like he's re-teaming with any of his previous actors for this one.

He also said that the film will not feature the Hollywood segment from the book, even though he likes that section.  Otherwise, the film does take place near the Valley, which he likes.  It's his first time adapting, but he's got it to a point where it definitely feels like his now.  As was said before, it's a very loose adaptation.

He doesn't know what happened with Extraordinary Machine, and Ricky Jay is the coolest motherfucker except when he whines about small things, which he apparently has a habit of doing (PTA's example: "Ehhh, this coke is warm.  Are these bagels old?")  He also sees Altman as a father figure and has nothing but praises for him.

He came in very nervous, but later got pretty comfortable.  It went from about 8:10 (this is when he actually came out) to... 10:40 or so.  A good 2 hrs and a half, I believe.  Then he spent another 20-30 minutes signing stuff and shaking hands until he finally went backstage.

Oh, he had a coke and his day was "okay." (a question that was asked)

Pics anyone?  Or could you at least sketch out what you saw from memory?

*One possibly psychotic attendee went up to the mic, threw his leather jacket to the ground, and proceeded to mumble incoherently about the "giant cock" in "Boogie Nights."  PTA, like the rest of us, looked a little perplexed.  The guy finally got around to asking PTA's opinion about digital vs. film, to which he replied that film will always be around, but that he enjoyed M. Mann's work in "Collateral."  He also mentioned a scene in "Collateral" which he thought was the "stupidest fucking moment" in the film, though I can't remember what it was (someone help me out here).

The scene with the coyote running by.

Quote from: Lucid on March 10, 2006, 04:53:13 PM*One fan gave him a list of movies he thought PTA might enjoy.  I'm drawing a blank on all of the films listed, though I know "You Can Count On Me" was on there - which we know Paul loved.

Songs from the Second Floor, Grave of the Fireflies (watch this one first!), Written on the Wind... there's more I think.  The only one of these three he'd seen was Written on the Wind, which he likes.

Quote from: Lucid on March 10, 2006, 04:53:13 PM*Another fan gave him a really awesome picture book of sorts w/images of Bjork, Kubrick on the set of "Full Metal Jacket," a record of Henry Gibson singing a song from "Nashville," and some random animations of a girl doing dance stretches.  He thought it was priceless, and said he'd see if things would work out with the dance images when he got back to his hotel room.

Shit, I wish I'd seen that.  I had to leave early, around 10ish.
