Nicole Kidman Confirmed for The Interpreter

Nicole Kidman is in talks to play the title role in The Interpreter, the Working Title/Universal co-production that will be Sidney Pollack's first helming gig since 1999's Random Hearts. Charles Randolph (The Life of David Gale) wrote the script.
In the thriller, which is expected to shoot next year, Kidman would play a U.N. interpreter who overhears an assassination plot. When she becomes a target she's paired with a federal agent and together they work to stop the murder of an African leader addressing the General Assembly.
Kidman, who won the best actress Oscar for "The Hours" in March, is in high demand but has experienced scheduling problems. A timing conflict with "The Stepford Wives" caused her to ankle the New Regency's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," and she also ankled Lars Von Trier's "Manderlay," the second pic in a trilogy that began with "Dogville."
As deal talks take place on "The Interpreter," Kidman is being courted for several other projects. They include the Nora Ephron-directed "Bewitched" that Jim Carrey is also circlingand the Miramax comedy "I Don't Know How She Does It," based on the Allison Pearson bestseller. The latter could see her reteam with "Cold Mountain" director Anthony Minghella.

Her craze of movie making after the divorce is worthy of analysis from some therapists. I think that carries weight and that she may be steamrolling a career now to rest her cute little head along side great actresses of the movies. That kind of remembered acting that will no doubt be cited at award shows til time's end. I think she has potential and usually does her duty, but I want to see her pushed further into roles. I can't give her pass all the time because she is engaging physically and can say the lines fine.

Kidman and Lopez to Play American Darlings

Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez will star in American Darlings, a period drama that was bought preemptively by New Regency from a four-page pitch, says Variety. Kidman will be also executive produce.
"Darlings" is a drama about a white female swing band that joins forces with a group of black and Hispanic musicians at a time when women were ostracized from playing male-dominated clubs. Those sex barriers shattered soon after President Roosevelt declared war on Japan and the women suddenly played the hottest clubs and even squared off against the Count Basie orchestra at the Apollo Theater.
Kidman brought in producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron because she was a fan of Chicago, which they executive produced. The duo are also preparing feature remakes of Guys and Dolls and Damn Yankees.
A screenwriter is soon expected to come aboard the project, which will showcase the singing voices of Lopez and Kidman.

I must say i think the JLO i too overrated, the only good film i have seen her in are THE CELL, that's an ok filck but all the other shit espcilly MONEY TRAIN, GIGLI and the extremely shity one with old goergy-boy, the list is long....

Bacall Balks After Kidman Called 'Legend'
How old is a movie legend? Definitely older than 37-year-old Nicole Kidman, according to screen veteran Lauren Bacall.
Bacall became irritated during an interview with Britain's GMTV Wednesday when the younger actress was described as "a legend."
"She's not a legend," Bacall said, cutting off interviewer Jenni Falconer in mid-sentence.
"She's a beginner. What is this 'legend'? She can't be a legend at whatever age she is. She can't be a legend, you have to be older."
The two actresses were in Venice, Italy to promote their new film "Birth," in which 79-year-old Bacall plays Kidman's mother.
At a joint interview, reporters peppered Kidman with questions and, embarrassed, she finally suggested they direct their questions elsewhere.
Bacall, the former wife of Humphrey Bogart and star of such films as "The Big Sleep" and "Key Largo," insisted she and Kidman get along famously.
The two women acted together once before, with Bacall playing a supporting role in Kidman's star vehicle "Dogville" last year.
"I love working with a young actress," Bacall said. "Nicole and I worked together on Dogville and we were friends when we started this. That laid the groundwork for our fabulous relationship on screen and off."
In the film, Kidman plays a woman who believes her dead husband has been reincarnated in the body of a 10-year-old boy.
The assembled stars and the film's director and producer, were asked who they would like to come back as if they could be reincarnated.
The others gamely tried to answer the question but Bacall snapped: "It's not a fascinating question. No offense."

Kidman Climbing Crowe's Tree?
Nicole Kidman could be nesting with Russell Crowe in a new flick.
Crowe is set to star and now Kidman is in negotiations to join him in the Australian romantic fable Eucalyptus, Daily Variety reports.
The Oscar-winning actors, who are both based in Australia, have been longtime friends--and, if you believe the tabloids, were even closer a couple years ago. This would be the first time they worked together on screen.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Murray Bail, Eucalyptus centers on a story-telling stranger, who, to marry a widower's beautiful daughter, must first identify each of the thousand species of eucalyptus trees on the father's estate. Crowe is playing the suitor, and a third Oscar winner, Geoffrey Rush, is aboard to play the dad.
Fox Searchlight, which is distributing the film, did not immediately return calls seeking comment on the would-be casting coup. It is assumed that Kidman would play the object of Crowe's affection in the allegory.
Early reports had Bryce Dallas Howard, the star of this summer's hit The Village and the daughter of Ron Howard, taking the part, but she abruptly pulled out after director Jocelyn Moorehouse reportedly was looking to cast a local woman.
Moorehouse, an Aussie whose previous directing credits include the art-house flicks A Thousand Acres (1997) and How to Make an American Quilt (1995), also shared scriptwriting duties with Michelle Joyner. The film is being produced by Uberto Pasolini and Lynda House.
According to Variety, the only thing standing in the way of a Kidman-Crowe lovefest would be synching up the schedules of the two A-listers.
Crowe, who recently finished shooting the Ron Howard-helmed boxing biopic Cinderella Man, has Eucalyptus penciled in as his next project. Kidman, however, may have some juggling to do to squeeze the tree tale in.
The actress, whose last big-screen turn was in this summer's box-office bomb The Stepford Wives, recently wrapped shooting on Sydney Pollack's political thriller The Interpreter, in which she costars with Sean Penn as a United Nations interpreter who overhears an assassination plot.
From there, she segued into playing nose-twitching witch Samantha Stephens in Nora Ephron's feature film redo of the '60s TV series Bewitched with Will Ferrell as hapless hubby Darrin.
Following completion of that comedy, Kidman's scheduled to step into the role of Ulla, the buxom Swedish bombshell, opposite Nathan Lane's Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick's Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks' big-screen remake of his Tony-winning musical, The Producers.
Kidman's crowded calendar also includes a stint in Tony Scott's Emma's War, a film about a British aid worker in the Sudan who weds a warlord aiming to take over the African country. Then, there's her high-profile pairing with Jennifer Lopez in American Darlings, a World War II musical drama about the first all-female swing band in the testosterone-dominated 1940s nightclub scene.
And last but not least, Kidman is set to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Baz Luhrmann's Alexander the Great, playing Olympias, mother of the Macedonian conqueror.
Kidman and Luhrmann, who originally teamed on Moulin Rouge!, recently reunited for a two-minute short/commercial for Chanel's signature No. 5 perfume. In it, she plays a Tinseltown star escaping a gaggle of paparazzi and striking up a romance with a handsome stranger.
Sounds like a good warm-up for Eucalyptus, which is scheduled to start shooting Down Under early next year.

Kidman drops out of 'Producers'
Nicole Kidman has dropped out of the role of the Swedish bombshell Ulla in the movie version of "The Producers" musical. A Kidman representative said the delayed shooting of Kidman's next movie "Eucalyptus," scheduled for January through April, conflicted with her "Producers" work.
There was no immediate word on who might replace her. The film will star Nathan Lane and Matthew Broadrick, reprising their roles from the hit Broadway show.

Previously known as the untitled Diane Arbus project, Bonnie Timmermann is producing "Fur," along with River Road's Bill Pohlad and Laura Bickford. Shainberg's production partner, Andrew Fierberg, also is producing. Bosworth and Vincent Farrell of Iron Films are co-producing, and Edward R. Pressman will serve as an executive producer.
Arbus is considered one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century and was known for her often disturbing and strange images. She committed suicide in 1971.

being a big arbus fan, i think this idea is absolutely terrible - i can't believe her estate, which is legendery for the protection of exhibiting her photographs, is giving the go ahead for this project(or maybe they haven't). I don't see any way of tastefully making a film about her life, it will most likely trivialize and exploit the darker element of her life(her depression/suicide etc.). If a film must be made of arbus give it to someone who would have a little better grasp on such a life -- schnabel may be able to pull this off. shaninburg is a fucking hack - no two ways about it. i have nothing against kidman, but shes just wrong for this role. samantha morton would at least be tolerable. this is disapointing news.

Kidman Versus the Body Snatchers
Things are moving fast on the new Invasion of the Body Snatchers film. The project was just announced this month, and we already have the first bit of casting news. According to Production Weekly, Nicole Kidman (Bewitched, Moulin Rouge) has been snagged for a leading role in the science fiction remake. She'll play the female protagonist, a resident of a small town who begins to investigate when the personalities of the local folk start to change. The culprit, of course, is an alien conspiracy to infiltrate and replace humans with extraterrestrial invaders.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is set to begin shooting this October.
German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall, Das Experiment) is helming the picture.

Kidman in PARTY Mode
Nicole Kidman could soon be hosting a Bachelorette Party. Twentieth Century Fox has picked up the rights to the novel The Bachelorette Party from Legally Blonde writer Karen McCullah Lutz as a starring vehicle for the Oscar-winning Kidman.
Bachelorette will star Kidman as a Los Angeles high school teacher who has recently been left at the altar. Putting on a happy face, she must attend the bachelorette party of her cousin...who happens to be marrying the teacher's best guy friend. When the cousin has a drunken indiscretion at the party, the teacher must decide where her loyalties lie. Lutz will be adapting her own novel, which St. Martin's Press published.
Kidman will produce the project with Rick Schwartz through their Blueprint Films banner. Alloy Entertainment will also be a production shingle on the project. Robbie Brenner will be the executive in charge for Fox.

She has indeed done too many sorry movies lately (with the exception of Dogville, which was a masterpiece). She needs to get back to working with great directors (like Lars Von Trier, Ron Howard, Gus Van Sant, etc...)

Kidman and Watts Have a Need

"Nip/Tuck" creator Ryan Murphy is firming plans to spend his hiatus directing Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts in Need, a thriller to be produced by Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal. Variety says independent financing is being mobilized for a late fall start.
Kidman and Watts, friends since they were young actresses in Australia, have been looking for a project to do together. The sexy thriller will cast them as archenemies: Watts will play a psychiatrist, Kidman the unstable patient who steals the shrink's husband.
Murphy has also just signed a multiyear deal worth $15 million that's so big, it spans three News Corp. entities: FX, 20th Century Fox TV and the Fox net. Under the deal, Murphy will stay on as showrunner for a fifth season of FX's top-rated "Nip/Tuck." At the same time, he'll exclusively develop series with 20th Century Fox.

Nicole Kidman is attached to star in and produce "Monte Carlo," a romantic comedy that Fox 2000 and New Regency are co-financing. Pic will be directed and co-written by Tom Bezucha.
Project is one of two Bezucha will make for Fox 2000; he'll also direct "Orbit," an adaptation of the John Nance novel scripted by Sheldon Turner ("The Longest Yard"). Jennifer Klein is producing through her Apartment 3B banner.
Bezucha has just turned in a draft of "Monte Carlo" that he wrote with Maria Maggenti. Pic is an adaptation of the Jules Bass novel "Headhunters."
Kidman, who'll produce with Rick Schwartz, will play one of three Midwestern schoolteachers who ditch a disappointing no-frills holiday in Paris and pose as wealthy women vacationing in Monaco.
The helmer will simultaneously develop "Orbit" with Turner. That drama revolves around a civilian who, after winning a trip on a space shuttle, awakens to find himself alone and adrift after the entire crew has died.
Turner and Klein set "Orbit" at the studio in late 2005.
"The project is a totally different kind of film for Tom, but the core of the story is the relationship stuff he's so good at," Turner said. "The scope of the film is enormous, but at heart, this is a family drama about a guy who was in orbit long before he went into space, when he lost his son."
Kidman is starring with Hugh Jackman in the Baz Luhrmann-directed period epic "Australia" for Fox.
Bezucha directed "The Family Stone" for Fox 2000.
Turner has turned in a script on an "X-Men" spinoff about Magneto that David Goyer will direct for 20th Century Fox, and the scribe and Klein also are teamed on the Fox drama "Two Minutes to Midnight."

Pic is a love story based on the bestselling novel by German writer Bernhard Schlink.
Stephen Daldry is directing a script by David Hare.
Mirage Productions partners Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack are producing with Scott Rudin. Shooting begins in Berlin late September.
The setting is contemporary Germany, where a man recounts the story of his erotic awakening in a covert love affair with an older woman in the wake of WWII.
The book was an international bestseller and was published in the U.S. by Pantheon.
Minghella and Pollack acquired the book and invited Rudin and the other elements aboard.
The project is a reunion of several of the creatives. Kidman, Daldry, Hare and Rudin last collaborated on "The Hours," for which the actress won an Oscar. She has worked with Minghella on "Cold Mountain" and Pollack on "The Interpreter." Fiennes starred for Minghella in "The English Patient."
Kidman just opened alongside Daniel Craig in "The Invasion," and follows with the Rudin-produced "Margot at the Wedding" and then "The Golden Compass." Fiennes was just seen as Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

Kidman will star in and produce "The Danish Girl," based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for an female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.
When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einar to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.
Anand Tucker ("Shopgirl") is attached to direct the feature, adapted by writer Lucinda Coxon ("Wild Target") from David Ebershoff's 2000 Viking bestseller. His debut novel of the same name is a fictionalized account of the Wegeners' true story.
The producers, no strangers to daring indie fare, are Gail Mutrux ("Kinsey"), Anne Harrison ("Two Family House"), Linda Reisman ("Affliction"), Kidman and the head of her Fox-based Blossom Films shingle, Per Saari. Blossom has several projects in development, including a biopic of bisexual singer Dusty Springfield set to star Kidman.
Kathy Morgan International is repping AFM presales on "Girl," a period piece that's taken on a very modern resonance with this week's votes to ban gay marriage in California, Florida and Arizona. Both the CAA-repped Kidman and the One Entertainment-repped Theron earned their best actress Oscars playing lesbian characters, in "The Hours" and "Monster," respectively.
Pre-production has begun on the indie film, but no details on a principal photography start date have been disclosed.
