The adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York's secret community of witches and wizards seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.

Stars: Ezra Miller, Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell

well, I enjoy watching the harry potter movies and this looks fun enough.

Yates has a handful of lame Harry Potter films under his belt but I reckon this one actually looks quite fun. The absence of Steve Kloves most definitely helps.

Yeah, I always liked Yates' visual approach to those movies. It was really the scripts that sunk that ship.

I was thinking about Colin Farrell's performance and then compared it to the totally different approach he used in The Lobster, I don't think I give him enough credit, he's pretty good.

Movie was fun, charming, flawed etc

Waterston has one of the most fantastically expressive faces in the world, she should be in a silent film.
The good guys in this were very likable. Visual design was interesting, a blend of fresh and familiar.
As it was written for the screen, it doesn't have the same gradual pacing of the book films and gives into some full-on blockbusteriness.
But it's still enjoyable (especially when I turn off Potter-obsessive mode).
