Title: Kate Winslet *barf*
Post by: Weak2ndAct on March 20, 2004, 02:48:02 PM
I'll set the table since this is going to happen sooner or later.

Goodbye Scarlett, Hello Kate!

Sometimes she's cute, sometimes she's fugly, sometimes she's in great movies, sometimes she's not... yadda yadda yadda....

weird that she was naked in a pg13 movie.  and the highest grossing movie of all time.  she's probably been seen  naked by more people than pamela anderson.  that must be a little embarrasing.

The only movies I can think of that she hasn't been naked in are David Gale, Sense And Sensibility and Eternal Sunshine. It's funny, because I heard an interview with her on Fresh Air in which she said she hates doing nudity.

How about that HOT sex scene in Quills?

From her IMDB bio:

In 2002 she had this to say about doing nude scenes: "I like exposing myself. There's not an awful lot that embarrasses me. I'm the kind of actress that absolutely believes in exposing myself."

I've liked since "Heavenly Creatures." And I never understood that whole backlash when people said she was fat. I never found her to be so.

The Fresh Air interview was in 2000. I guess she changed her mind.

Blaspheme!

That said, I've always liked Kate Winslet. I never saw David Gale, either.

I prefer her to most actresses, she isn't fat, and she's hot.

Ain't no Scarlett though

She used to be chunky.

Now though, she's hot.

And she was hot in Titanic. Only good thing about it, really.

Yea, I'm going to have to hesitate in saying she's the best actress since Zooey right now but if her goodness in Sunshine is any indication of how good she'll be in the future, she'll become one of my favorite actresses very very soon. She's more beautiful than I ever remember her being in the past. And a better actress too.

If by "sometimes" you mean NEVER... then yeah, sometimes she's fugly.

She's been giving me "boy pains" ever since Branagh's Hamlet.

She is absolutely fantastic. I don't really think she has ever given a bad performance (not that I've seen). Don't forget to mention her performance in Quills.

And 'yes', she is very hot.

By "sometimes" I mean that the reason I started the thread was a goof.  Guess sarcasm isn't as obvious as I thought it would be.

I guess she kinda looks like Rachel Weisz...like it matters. Either way, just judging by all of this enthusiasm I have a feeling she'll be the Scarlett for this year, even though she's been around for several years. She was great in Quills, by the way.

Because Weak2ndAct was being facetious in his original post, though no one realized it.

Winslet for Fourth Potter Movie?

English rose Kate Winslet is in talks to star in the fourth Harry Potter movie - as a French wizard. The Titanic star, 29, has been asked to play Fleur Delacour in the film adaptation of JK Rowling's Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, by director Mike Newell. Filming is set to begin next month and Winslet's director husband Sam Mendes has been encouraging his stunning wife to accept, for the sake of their son Joe and her daughter Mia. Mendes says, "Some weeks ago Kate had a meeting with the director and some producers of the Harry Potter movies. She was asked to have an important role as a young French wizard or something like that in the fourth film. She is still thinking about it. I told her to do it just for the kids. Mia and Joe will thank her in the future." Winslet wouldn't be the first actress to star in the boy wizard films for her offspring - Emma Thompson signed to play Professor Sybill Trelawney in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban to impress her four-year-old daughter Gaia.

Winslet home for 'Holiday'
Source: Hollywood Reporter

Kate Winslet is in final negotiations to join Cameron Diaz in Nancy Meyers' romantic comedy "Holiday" for Columbia Pictures.

Negotiations between the actress and the studio had reached an impasse last week over scheduling conflicts. Those conflicts have been resolved, the studio said.

The film marks Meyers' follow-up to the romantic comedy "Something's Gotta Give." "Holiday," which also is written and produced by Meyers, centers on an American woman (Diaz) with man troubles who crosses paths with a British villager (Winslet) with similar problems.

The film begins shooting early next year in Europe and the U.S., with Amy Baer overseeing for the studio.

It has been a busy year for Winslet, who is filming Todd Field's "Little Children" for New Line Cinema and lends her voice to DreamWorks' 2006 animated comedy "Flushed Away." The four-time Oscar-nominated actress, who co-stars in Columbia's December release "All the King's Men," recently spoofed herself in a guest spot on HBO's "Extras."

British actress Kate Winslet splits from husband

LONDON - Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet has split from her film director husband Sam Mendes, a British law firm said Monday.

The 34-year-old star separated from Mendes at an unspecified point earlier this year, Shillings law firm said. It wasn't clear whether divorce proceedings have begun. The pair have been married since 2003 and have two children.

In a statement e-mailed to journalists, the law firm said the split was "entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement."

"Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children," the statement said.

A call and an e-mail seeking further comment were not immediately returned.

Winslet won the Academy Award for best actress for her dramatic role in "The Reader" in 2009. It was the first Oscar win for Winslet, who had been nominated five other times for her roles in "Titanic," "Sense and Sensibility," "Iris," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Little Children."

Mendes, an acclaimed stage and film director, won the coveted best director Oscar for "American Beauty."

He directed his wife in "Revolutionary Road," a recent film about a crumbling marriage that reunited Winslet with her "Titanic" co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Reviews were largely favorable, but the film failed to set off the same box office fever that made "Titanic" one of the most successful films in history.

In "Revolutionary Road," Winslet portrayed a suburban housewife who became increasingly bored and desperate with her stay-at-home life. The film won Winslet a Golden Globe for best dramatic actress, and in her acceptance speech she thanked her husband for pushing her so hard.

"Thank you for directing this film, babe, and thank you for killing us every single day and really enjoying us actually being in such horrific pain," she said last year.

Mendes said at the time that directing his wife had been one of the best experiences of his life, although he said she liked to discuss the movie 24 hours a day while he preferred to do something else, like watch a baseball game, at night when work was done.

anyway, this was a perfect example of a 10 going with a 5. whatever that means. my theory is that she's too wild and fun to be with oldman Mendes. i'm surprised he even "did his duty" once!
